Fishing, Hunting Boom Continues LINCOLN Interest in fish ing and hunting continues to ac celerate in Nebraska, based on the Jan. 1 to June 1 sale of combination permits, the Game Commission says. Sale of resident combination fishing-hunting permits totaled $123,712 for the first five months of 1959. For the comparable period last year, the figure was $114,642. Increased sales were also re ported on resident hunting per mits, nonresident hunting per mits, annual nonresident fishing permits and 10-day nonresident fishing permits. Roger Noell struck out 15 and had yielded just a run .in the second before he ran into trouble n the last inning. R. Miller poled a three-run homer. Lauren Todd hit a solo homer for Plattsmouth in the fourth for his team's final run. Todd and Noell got two hits each. Weeping Water's Puis struck out 10 and gave up six hits. He is a junior In high school and plays outfield and catches. He is 5-10, weighs 150 pounds and has a batting average of .398. Weisneth has been playing ball in the various aee groups as he grew up, starting with the Pee Wees. Every year he has been a selection for the all star team in the classification in which he played. Effective Oct. 1, however, all state recreation grounds will be exempt from the requirement for the use of the stamp. No use stamps will be required next year. Plattsmouth Bows, 1 7-3 Plattsmouth led 2-0 after the first inning but then the dam broke and Arlington won a Platte Valley League baseball game at Arlington, 17-3, Sunday afternoon. Plattsmouth managed four hits but made five errors and its pitching yielded 14 hits. The 10-run rule ended the game after 6V2 innings. In other league games Papill lon beat Gretna. 6-3, and Ken nard defeated Elkhorn, 4-1. Of the banded ducks, 397 were non-flying ducklings, 51 were Canada-type geese, seven were white-fronted geese, three were coots and one was a sora rail. One of the geese had been banded at the same location the and another had been released in Montana in 1957. A dog, a retriever specifically trained for the work, caught 24 per cent of the ducks and ac counted for others which he pointed but did not actually handle. VFW Hold Its Annual Barbecue Sunday Lepert-Wolever post No. 2543 VFW held their annual barbacue at the pasture on the Hobscheldt farm southeast of Murray, with an attendance es timated at 300 present to enjoy the feast and a most pleasant days outing for young and old. The committee in charge of the feed comprised A. C. Mc Lean, Robert Gall, Leonard Kal asek, Lloyd Fitch, Dale Bowman, assisted by Sam Am. This com mittee and their assistants had 500 pounds of beef prepared and served with all the trimmings. Robert Dart Offutt Air Base Sgt. Robert W. Dart, 29, was killed early Friday morning when his car hit the guard rail at 26th & L St. in Omaha. The impack of the car took out 73 ft. of the guardrail. Sgt. Dart ap parently being thrown from the car and falling 43 foot to the railroad tracks below. The fatal injury was a skull fracture. He was born Sept. 16, 1929 at Kingston, New York, son of Har rison and Bessie Dart. He has been in the Air Force since 1955. Funeral services and interment will be Tuesday, June 29, at King ston, N. Y. Visiting hours were held Sat urday, afternoon and evening at the Caldwell-Linder Chapel for friends in the Offutt and Platts mouth Community. Caldwell-Linder funeral home in charge of arrangemens. Attend Meeting Of Jehovah Witnesses Held at Des Moines Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Kruger of this city were at Des Moines this week attending a six state mid west area conference of Jehovah Witnesses. They were joining their daughter, Miss Thelma Kruger, a ful time minister of the organization, who was in at tendance from Brooklyn, N. Y. where she is located. The meetng drew representa tives from Iowa, Minnesota, Ill inois, Wisconsin, Missouri and Nebraska and attendance was estimated at over 10,000 in the four days session. Sunday was the culmination of the meetings with N. H. Knorr, president of Jehovah Witnesses in the United States. He spoke on "When God Speaks Peace to the Nations". Death of Long Time Eagle Resident Mrs. Minnie Wenzel, 89, long time resident of the Eagle com munity, died Sunday at her home. Mrs. Wenzel has been a re sident of Nebraska since 1943 and In the Eagle community for the past 55 years. She was a member of the Immanuel Luth eran church at Eagle and quite active in the community life. Funeral services will be Wed nesday at 2 p.m. at the Eagle Immanuel Lutheran church, Rev. E. H. Prominent South Bend Resident Dies David Campbell, 79, promi nent resident of the South Bned community, died Wednesday. He had farmed in that community most of his life. Survivors are sons Oliver of Bennet, and Chester of Lin coln, daughter Gladys Preston of Elmwood, sisters Sarah Rau of Ashland and Mrs. Frances Schafer of Omaha. Funeral was Saturday at Ash land Methodist Church,. Rev. Donald Webster officiating. Burial was at Ashland Ceme tery. SAC Bandman To Leave Offutt Air Force Base Soon Capt. Ernest W. Greer, com mander and director of 702 SAC Band at Offutt Field is to leave the first part of next month to assume command of the 541st Band at Williams Air Force Base, Arizona. Capt. Greer is well known in Plattsmouth where his fine mu sical organization has so often and so generously appeared as a feature of various civic enter, tainments. Capt. Greer started his musi cal work when 11. He entered the musical work in the Army in 1942. Capt. John B. Kirkpartick has arrived at Offutt Air Base to assume direction of the band. Funeral serv ices were held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Dworak Mortuary In Omaha with burial at West Lawn Cemetery. Mrs. Wales was daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kalasek and was born In Plattsmouth where she spent her childhood and young womanhood. The greater portion of her adult life was spent in Omaha. She was married to Pete Niel sen who preceded her In death a great many years ago and in later years was married to Har. ry Wales, who also preceded her in death.
