The above folks became acquainted when thev stayed at the same resort In Minnesota during Valjean's sum mer duty with the National Ouards. Funeral services were held for Mr. Harold Porter Sr., 70, of Lincoln, formerly of Eagle, Saturday afternoon at Grace Lutheran Church. His death came Tuesday. Mr. Forter moved from Eagle in 1945 to Lincoln. He had lived on a farm a few miles south of town. He was an active mem. ber of church at Eagle Meth odist and worked In the Sunday School too. Mr. Porter lived at Norden for 13 years before moving to Eagle. Pastors officiating at the ser vice were Dr. Harold Sandall and Rev. Merrill Willis. Survivors are his wife, Lucy; daughters Mrs. Harold Dowd ing, Palmyra, Mrs. James West, Omaha; Mrs. Roger Turner, Lincoln; sons Ronald J., Enu melon, Wash., Bernard of Los Gatos, Calif., Harold Jr., Ches ter, Neb.; sisters Mrs. Smith of Denver, Mrs. Collins of Spo kane, Mrs. Elliott of Sioux City and Mrs. Long of Lincoln; and two brothers in California. Burial was at Palmyra cem etery. Lowell Umland, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Umland was married June 5 at St. Paul Methoctt-Jt Church in Lincoln with Rev. Frank Court perform ing the ceremony, to Miss Shir ley Duckworth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Duckworth of Omaha. The bridal couple are Nebras ka Wesleyan graduates and will reside in Lincoln where both are employed. A reception was held Sunday evening at the Eagle Methodist Church for relatives of the new lyweds. He is a graduate of Eagle schools and has been an honor student at the University and active in football. Eagle's FHA officers attend ed the leadership camp at Ful lerton May 31-June 3. Attending were Don Kemper, president; Ray Althouse, secretary. Ron ald Ronhovde, treasurer; Arn old Westlake, sentinel, and Ly ell Weyers, reporter. Lee West lake, vice president, could not be present. The camp was to train FFA chapters in conducting their meetings and develop better pro grams of work. All members attending were assigned to separate groups for the different breeds of cattle and the State FFA officers were assigned as foremen of the herds. Don Kemper was in the Galloway group; Ray Althouse, Shorthorn; Lyell Weyers, An gus; Arnold Westlake,, Long horn. Mr. McCaslin, the instructor, was one of the strawbosses. A contest was held on a point basis and the Herefords won with Shorthorns second for tab le manners and other notes of interest. LaVell Swans attended grand Lodge at Omaha Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Bud Ballance of Lincoln spent Wednesday eve ning at the home of her grand mother, Mrs. A. H. Siekman and enjoyed supper together. Mr. and Mrs. John Fischer received word of the birth of a son, Michael LeRoy to her niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. George Rawley at SeattleWash. May 27. Mrs. Rawley is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Milo Frisbee at Seattle, former Elm wood residents. Harry Anderson of Seward and his son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. John Anderson of Carml, Illinois, called at the home of the latter's brother, Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Anderson Thursday morning enroute home after en joying an extensive trip over sev eral states. The guests recently moved to Illinois from Okla homa. Mr. and. Mrs. L. K. Swarts and family, Mr. and Mrs. H.N. Erskine and family and Mr., and Mrs. Clinton Westlake at tended the wedding ceremony of Donna Jean Swarts, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. DeLor Swarts at Elmwood Methodist Church Sunday evening, to Mr. James Jicka of Tacoma, Wash., formerly of Elmwood. Mrs. Emma Orctut of Denver who had been spending a few days at her daughter's home, the L. K. Swarts, left for her home Monday. Several of the Eagle OES Kensington ladies were guests of the Elmwood OES Kensing ton at Elmwood recently. Min es Pearl Adams, Ines Muenchau, Dorothy Swarts, Bettie Under wood, Louise Vickers and Ella Fischer were those attending. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Kautz man, sons Timmy and Jon and daughter Gwen of Lincoln were guests at the home of her cousin and family, L. K. Swarts Sat urday and all attended the Un iversity of Nebraska gradua tion exercises in which Gwen Kautzman was a graduate. In The Service ULM, Germany Army Pvt. Dayel E. Strelch, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Streich, Murdock, recently arrived in Germany and is now a member of the 41st In fanty. A rifleman in the Infantry's Company C in Ulm, Streich com pleted basic training at Fort Hood, Tex. The 23-year-old soldier is a graduate of Murdock High School. 4-H NEWS The Bonnie Blue Belles 4-H Club met Friday the 5th at Betty Jo Sandas home. Clarence Sch madeke, county agent, explained how 4-H works and 4-H camp. Becki Bruns and Betty Jo Sands showed utensils and ex plained how they work. A;sistant Leader Mrs. Peter Nettleman appointed girls to de monstrate measuring of fats, sugar and liquids at the next meeting. Each girl is to make cocoa and cinnamon toast before the next meeting. Gess home Thursday. Mrs. Cap pen and Mrs. Gess are cousins. Mr. and Mrs. Elclon Pingree met Mrs. Dave Noble of Alton, la., Thursday morning. Mrs. Noble is Mr. Pingree's grand mother and will spend some time at the Pingree home, then on to visit other relatives. Mrs. Noble is in her late 80's. Mrs. M. K. Schroeder of Syra cuse called at the Tom Tennant home Monday evening and at tended the shower given for Mrs. Orvile Robbins Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Emil Lemon of Omaha were supper guests Sat urday night at the Melvin Reed home. Mr. and Mrs. Robert France, Douglas and Debra of Milwaukee visited Friday at the O'Cedar holm home where they have been visiting relatives in other states and will visit in Missouri. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Tennant visited Sunday at the Tom Ten nant home. Other callers were Mrs. Melvin Reed, Rita and Dian. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Sutton and family of Avoca, Mrs. C. E. Sutton and Mrs. Clarence Sjo gren called at the Elmer Spreick home Sunday afternoon. Recent visitors at the Sprieck home was Mrs. Leon Elliot and children and Mrs. Ernest Elliot both of Plattsmouth. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Parcell, Elmwood were Saturday visitors at the Ervin Tlbert home. Ray and Kay Albert were Over night guests at the Parcell home. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ahl visit ed Wm. Kraft Saturday evening. He hopes to be able to leave the hospital this week. They also called on Mrs. August Funke as both are at the Methodist Hos pital. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Parks and Linda of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Longe, Omaha were Sunday visitors at Lester Ten nant home. Other callers were Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Reed, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Rayne. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cordes, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ramge and family, Plattsmouth attended the Festival at Brownville Sun day. Joseph Barr. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Clinken beard of Plattsmouth were din ner guests at the Beauf-d Clinkenbeard home after attend ing the christening of their granddaughter. Nancy and Mary Ramge, Plattsmouth and Fay Wilson, Omaha are .spending a few days with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cordes. Mr. and Mrs. Errett Wiles of Waterloo were overnight visitors at the Roy Wiles home, Weep ing Water Saturday and called at the Lester Tennant home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert French and children called at the L. p. Wright home while visiting friends in Louisville. Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Derby and family, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Derby spent Sunday in Omaha and at Carter Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Stoehr and George Stoehr spent Sun day afternoon at the Luella Meisinger and Elvln Davis home and were evening callers at the Leroy Meisinger home. Mrs. John Van Vlit and sons of Lincoln were Monday after noon and supper guests at the Elmer Johnson home. Supper guests at the Elmer Sprieck Sunday evening were Mr. and Mrs. Iris Gerdes, Pattie, Margie and John and Sandra Payton of Plattsmouth. Mrs. Elmer Johnson and Mrs. Wm. Zenor visited Mrs. George Erikson at the Ebler nursing home in Elmwood Friday after noon. Mrs. Erkson a former nei ghbor in the Glendale district, now lives on a farm in Fort Crook and friends will be glad to know she was able to go home on Saturday.
