Mack, son of Mrs. Etho Mack, left a couple weeks ago after graduattlon from Eagle High for Army assignment at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. Richard Wall and a friend from East St. Louis called at the home of his uncle. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Wall Monday enroute to Lincoln to visit the Frank Wall family. Mrs. Irene Lorenzen Is spend ing several weeks with two sis ters and families, the Claude Hagens (Wilma Malone) and Donald Roberts (Gladys Mal one) at Albuquerque, N. M. Her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. John Lance are residing at Mrs. Lorenzen 's home dur ing her absence. The WSCS members had their regular 'meeting at the church Wedr,sday with Mmes. Chas. Scattergood and Grace Root, co hostesses. Mmes Billy Ketel hut had devotions and Ralph Ransford the lesson. The Soc iety decided to mark its per fect attendance for the year with a party June 23. Mrs. John Martin became a member. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Brown of Ft. Collins, Colo., aunt and fos ter parents of Mr. Al Thurston, Eagle, were victims of a tragic accidental death at the Sea man Reservoir northwest of Ft. Accompanied by his wife, he was in a boat checking depth and range of the reservoir when a sudden high wind swept the boat into the spillway stream and the boat capsized. The cou pie was swept over the falls and drowned. Mr. and Mrs. Al Thurston left as soon as they received the sad news of the death of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Brown at Ft. Collins. Mrs. Thur ston's parents, Mr. and Mrs Elvin Umland also motored to Venango and were overnight guests of Mrs. Umland's sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Har old Hughes, continuing on to Ft. Collins for the funeral the next day. Trinity Lutheran Aid met at Mrs. Carl Oberle's home Thurs day afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Blinde and Lorie of Burwell called at the home of Supt. and Mrs. aul Embree and family last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. L. K. Swarts arid Kem accompanied by her aunt, Mrs. Elizabeth Emery of Arco, Minn., attended the fun eral services of Mrs. Swarts' eldest brother, D. W. Orcutt. Mr. Orcutt lived in Lexington, Ky., and was an area conserva. tionist. Enroute to Lexington, the Eagle folks spent a night at Mrs. Swarts's sister's home, Mrs. Delores McCreary at Cin cinnati. Mrs. Emma Orcutt of Den ver, Colo., accompanied her daughter and family, the La- Vell Swartses home from Ken tucky and will visit a few days with them. Mr. and Mrs. Kent Christen sen of Iowa Falls, Iowa, were Monday evening guests at the Paul Embree home. Mrs. Keith Muenchau and sons are enjoying a visit with relatives in New York City for a few weeks. Mr. Muenchau took them to the airport at Om aha Thursday afternoon to board the plane. Odell suffered a light stroke when he was looking af ter some cattle in the pasture. When Mrs. Odell discovered what had happened she called Wayne Laughlin who came and got him to the house and to bed. He has shown rapid recovery and is able to get around the house some with the aid of a crutch. Callers at their home were Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Odell and Patty, Mr. and Mrs. War ren E. Odell, Carol Leesley, James Odell and Rudy Vorrell, all of Omaha, the Rev. and Mrs. B. F. Parnell, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Keller, Wayne Laughlin and Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Arm strong. Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Sawtelle are new residents of this neigh borhood. They are living on the farm formerly owned by Hen ry Snyder, more recently pur chased by Wayne Swarts. Mrs. Maude Gilman presented an interesting program on mus ic, after which Mrs. Robinson, Diane, Marjie Lou, Terry Jean, Park and Nelson and Rosann. entertained with several music al numbers. A music contest was held 25 old and favorite numbers be ing played on the piano and the members were to recall the names. The serving committee was Mrs. Carl Parks, Mrs. Bert Ra ger, Mrs. John B. Peterson and Mrs. John Hoffman. Capt. Sidney Swarts of Wash ington, D. C, is visiting his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Swarts. He will leave for Alas ka June 9. Another son, Stan ley Swarts is also visiting his parents and brother enroute to Long Beach, Calif., from Scotts bluff. He will attend college, his family having gone . on to make their home there. Mrs. Art Box and Milton went to Winnetoon to attend Mem orial Day services and a family reunion, spoiled by a tornado which struck the farm home of Mrs. Box's nephew Steve Roh rer. The Rohrer family had just purchased the farm this Spring along with several new pieces of machinery. Sverything was demolished except the large house. It and fie contents were damaged. Luckily, Mrs. Roh rer and the four children were visiting in South Dakota and Mr. Rohrer took refuge in a cave. Mrs. Box and Milton were at the home of another relative about a mile away and were not harmed. Mr. and Mrs. Lionel Greal Iy of Arlington, Va., were Tues day evening dinner guests at the Norman Rau heme. Mr. and Mrs. Greally then visited at the Murray Smith home in Mem phis untilxFriday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Farmer, Bob and Bill, spent Friday evening there until time for Mr. and Mrs. Smith to take Mr. and Mrs. Greally to Omaha to board the train for their return trip home. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Sturm attended Memorial Day servic es at Nehawka also the annual smorgasbord at the auditorium for the cemetery benefit, and then they . visited friends near Nehawka. ' . . ) Larry ; Roeber and Dennis Leech accompanied their FFA teacher to Fullerton Sunday and attended the FFA Camp until Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Nel son attended commencement ex ercises at David City Thursday ROSEAU OF MISSING PERSON evening. Their nephew, Carl Sandy, was one of the gradu ates. They were lunch guests at the Ben Sandy home later in the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Lambert and sons went to York for Mem orial Day services, then were lunch guests of Mrs. Wilson's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs J. E. Carlson at Bradshaw. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stlckney and family attended Memorial Day services at the Randolph Cemetery, then had dinner with Mrs. Stickney's brqUier, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Burnham at Wayne. Mrs. Ray Bower acc ompanied the Stlckney family as far as Wisner. She spent the day with her daughter, Mrs. Keith Pollard and Mr. Pollard. Klmberly and Kevin Pollard were ill with measles. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Zlnk of Sioux City spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Keller. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Harbert and Jeffrey and Mr. and Mrs. Watson Coleman and Patty Sue of Lincoln were Friday visitors with the Kellers and their house guests. Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Haase took the Murray Balogh fam ily, Mrs. A. F. Haase and Don ald to dinner at a Lincoln cafe Friday and then visited at the Veterans Hospital. Harold Peterson and his mo ther, Mrs. Clarence Peterson were Saturday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gerold Hall and family In Waverly. They were celebrating Eldon Hall's birth day. Mrs. Kay Derby and chil dren came home with the Pet ersons and spent Saturday night and Sunday there. Nelle Folsom and Mrs. John B. Peterson spent Monday with Mfrs. Harry Farmer and he sister, Mrs. Lionel Greally. Mr. and, Mrs. Delbert Humston went to LeMars, Iowa Friday and brought their son Lynn home from Westmar College. Mrs. Martha Kruse of Murdock ac companied them to visit Alice Kruse, a professor of English at Westmar. Mrs. Don Rau, Kathy and Rusty of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Leland Krecklow and Sharon of Lincoln were Saturday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Rau and their house guests, Mrs. . George Gage, Beth and James after memorial services at Trinity Lutheran Church. The group spent the evening at the Norman Rau home. Mrs. Gage and children accompanied the Krecklow family to Lincoln to spend the night before going on to their home near Dunning. Mrs. Gage and children had spent last week with her par ents Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Rau. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Stander and family attended a family picnic dinner in St. Mary's church at Nebraska City Sun day. The dinner was In honor of Mrs. Stander's brothers, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Later they sent to the Burl ington station to meet the Arm strongs' granddaughters, Lotys and Lyanne DeFreece who came from Cairo for a week's visit. They attended Bible School at the Christian Church that week. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd DeFreece stopped at the Armstrong home Saturday evening as they were enoute home from Tecumseh where they had visited Mr. De Frece's mother's grave, Mrs. Cliff DeFreece. The girls re turned home with their parents that evening. Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Bar ta and family of Scottsbluff spent from Monday until Thurs day with Mrs. Barta's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. John B. Peterson. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bortz called at the Peterson home Thursday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Weston and family attended the com mencement exercises at Wahoo Friday evening. Mrs. Weston's sister, Jerls Schulz, was one of the graduates. The group were lunch guests at the Lester Schulz home. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Roe ber attended the alumni ban quet at Louisville Friday eve ning. Mrs. Roeber and her sis ter,, Mrs. Earl Puis of Manley, were members of the class of '34 which was honored on its 25th anniversary at the banquet. Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Sawtelle went to Union to decorate grav es of Mrs. Sawtelle's relatives.
