Plattsmouth Readies for Home Opener Plattsmouth, 0-1 in the Platte Valley Baseball League, will play Its home opener Sunday at 2:30 against Gretna. The club hopes to be able to use the new diamond which is being developed at the old ball park site east of the Burlington tracks. If the field Is not play able, Louisville was mentioned as a posslblle for the , "home" opener. Plattsmouth will practice each night this week. Sunday at Millard, Millard got an 8-0 lead after three in nings and won, 13-2, as Platts mouth got only one hit. Jon Schuetz and Tom Winscot pitched for Plattsmouth, Schuetz striking out two and Winscot seven. In other league openers, Pap illion blanked Gretna, 6-0; Ar lington beat Ashland, 5-3, and Kennard beat Traynor, 8-4. Plattsmouth suffered one cas ualty Sunday, John Blotzer breaking a finger on a play at second base. Local Jaycees At State Meet Six Plattsmouth Junior Cham ber of Commerce members at tended the Nebraska Jaycee Convention at North Platte. Local president Wayne Sch neider and state director Cecil McKnlght and their wives went for the complete three-day con vention. Joining them the last day were Donald Born, DeWayne Freeburg, Bill Brink and Duane Whelan. The Plattsmouth delegation reported that the three days were spent in meetings and pre parations for the annual state election. Mike Milder of Omaha was elected president on the 8th bal lot. Harold Smock, state vice pre sident from Plattsmouth, did not stand for election this year. Countyans Scored at State Meet Louisville, Eagle and Avoca scored points in the final of the state track and field meet in Lincoln over the weekend. Doug Alfrey, Don Vogler and Ron Hutchinson were Louisville's point-getters in the finals. La Vane Johnson scored for Eagle and Gilbert Bose for Avoca. Alfrey finished second in the 100-yard dash and third in the 220, after winning his heat in the 100 and placing second in the 220 inthe preliminaries. Vogler ran third in the- mire finals. Hutchinson was fifth in the shot put with 49-10. . Louisvillle was in Class C, Eagle and Avoca in D. Johnson threw the shot 48-6 V for second place in his class finals and won fifth In the dis cus with a throw of 125-5'2. Bose shared second in the D high jump finals with two others at 5-9. Journal Want Ada Pay Old Timers Firemen Meeting Wednesday Nebraska City Some 220 firemen from com munities surrounding Nebraska City were guests of the Nebraska City firemen at an Old Timers meeting at the Memorial build ing in that city Wednesday night. Dean Shuey was chairman of the program committee that ar ranged the event and provided a fine entertainment and re freshments. Lancaster County Jury Awards $3,000 In Haith Death The widow of an Elmwood man who died April 15, 1958, was awarded a $3,000 judgment by a Lancaster county jury last week. Mrs. Anna Lee Haith had ask ed $0,000 from the Prudential Insurance Co., in connection with her husband David's death. She has contended his death re sulted from an accidental gun shot wound. The insurance company con tended Haith committed suicide and she therefore was not eli gible to collect under the policy he carried. Mr. Haith's death had been ruled a suicide by the sheriff's office. Newell, charged with intoxication, placed a bond of $20 for hearing this afternoon. Frank Payne was charged with intoxication with hearing this morning. He received a fine of $15 for second offence and costs, a total of $19. Marius Stephens, Council Bluffs, was charged with intox ication and received a fine of $10 and costs, total $14. Ronnie Adklns was charged with operating a motor vehicle in a careless manner on the streets of the city. Hearing was set for May 23 at 9 a.m. Historical Note Aug. 21, 1893 To and from Union: I will agree to carry passengers to and from the old settler's reunion at Union to morrow and Wednesday for $1 each for the round trip, for ei ther or both days.
