Monday, April 13, 1859 Bridal Shower At Sayers Home MURRAY (Spcelal) Mrs. Havley Sayers was hostess Wed nesday evening to a shower hon orlng Marjorle Hoschar, who is soon to become the bride of De Witt Haley of Plattsmouth. The shower was given by cousins of the bride. Decorations of green and yel low graced the room with white wedding bells hanging from the celling. Eagle Legion Auxiliary Meets , EAGLE (Special) The Am erican Legion Auxiliary month ly meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Wilma Harrison In Lin coln April 6. Ten members were present. Poppies to be sold were distri buted to tho members. Plans for the Cass County American Legion Auxiliary Convention at Eagle were completed. Mrs. Nina Frohlich and Wil ma Harrison served lunch. Phyllis May drew the door prize. Next meeting will be with Nora Ketelhut and Phyllis May. April 10, the Auxiliary enter tained the Cass County Conven tion. All eight units of Cass Coun ty answered roll call. A glee club of eight girls of the 7th and 8th grades of Eagle sang for en tertainment. Representative George H. Coldenrod Study Club At Dill Home , Goldenrod Study Club held their April meeting at the home of Mrs. Frank Dill. Assistant hostesses were Mrs. C. L. Wiles, Mrs. John Vallery and Mrs. Ro bert Jacobs. Group singing was led by Mrs. Charles Spangler and Mrs. Roy Cole. In the absence of the presi dent, Mrs. Arthur Hild, vice president presided. A club tour through SAC headquarters for club members and families was planned for the evening of Nov. 11. An interesting lesson on Crea tive Design was given by Mrs. Jack Troop and Mrs. Charles Spangler. The club has been Invited to attend Cass County Home Ex tension Spring Tea Tuesday, May 5. Housewarming For Speck Family Mr. and Mrs. John Speck and family were pleasantly surprised at their new residence when friends called for a house warm ing party. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. War ren Rhylander, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Rhylander, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Meislnger and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Gall. Bethrothal Told Of Miss Cook WEEPING WATER (Special) Ralph Cook of North Platte announces the engagement and forthcoming marriage of his dau ghter, Delorls, to Joe Bennett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ben nett of Orleans. Miss Cook is a graduate of the McPherson High School. Miss Cook and Mr. Bennett are both attending college at the Hastings College In Hastings. A May 31 wedding is planned. District officers are president, Dorothy Smith, Weeping Water; vice president, Marjorle Schlap hof, Elmwood; warden, Alberta Warden, Nehawka; secretary, Jean Knaup, Weeping Water; treasurer, Mildred Heler, Louis ville; Conductor, Geneva Bark hurst; marshal, Louise Stock; Chaplain, Mary Lane; Inside guardian, Eva Blair; outside guardian, Pearl Klme; musician, Lenna Kime; Junior past presi dent, Stella Brown; Frances Parson was elected treasurer for the 1960 convention. Ruth Hart of Weeping Water has attended all 39 district con vention and was honored for this. Mary Nannen and Louise Stock tied for first place honor in perfectness In unwritten work In Rebekah. Mrs. Lauretta Schnabel, State Assembly president was pre sent for the convention. A ban quet was held at the Elmwood Methodist Church. The Weeping Water Rebekah Lodge had the Bible opening ceremony, the examination and Introduction of a member from another Jurisdiction and install ed the new officers in the even ing. The convention will be held in Louisville in 1960. Church Women Meet At Tilson Home Women's Department of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints met at the home of Mrs. Robert Til son the evening of April 8. Mrs. Bill Van Ackern had charge of the devotlonals. The lesson, the Whole Wide World for Jesus Through Me, was presented by Mrs. Robert Miller. Mrs. Elwln Coolman presided over the business meeting at which many activities were plan ned for the ensuing months. It was decided to devote one af ternoon a month as a workshop period, also plans for vacation Bible School. A wiener roast was planned for April 26 at 3 p.m., city park. A district Institute of the Wo men's Department was held at Central Church In Omaha March 13. Attending from the Platts mouth group were Mesdames Edwin Coolman, Minerva Cool man, Howard Burcham, Robert Miller,. Wayne Green and Lester Johnson. Showers Honor Miss Slattery WEEPING WATER (Special) Mrs. Ed Slattery, Patsy and Ann and Mrs. Ed Stander attend ed a shower Friday afternoon at Brock for Miss Suzanne Slat tery. It was held at the home of Mrs. Herbert Oelke with 30 present. They attended a personal show er Friday evening in Omaha, at the home of Mrs. Joe Staskie wicz with 18 present for Miss Slattery. Sunday a miscellaneous show er was held, honoring Miss Slat tery, at the Manley Hall with 50 guests attending. The shower was given by Mrs. John Stan der, Mrs. Frank Stander, Lila Stander, Lela Stander and Mrs. Gerald Stander of Omaha and Mrs. Robert Stander and Mrs. Jim Stander of Weeping Water. Miss Slattery will be mar ried Saturday morning, April 18, to Clifford E. Stander of Mur doch at St. Patrick's Church at Manley. Church Club Monthly Meeting Mr. and Mrs. Club of Christ Lutheran Church met April 12 in the church parlors with 11 members present. After the business meeting, the topic discussion. Faith Healing, was presented by Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hild. To conclude the evening, the group played the fun game, Keep Talking, directed by Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Hennings. Refreshments were served by the hostesses, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hild. Next meeting will be held on May 17 at 8 p.m. in the church parlors with Mr. and Mrs. John Fusselman as hosts. Nichols Miss Donna Lee Ballou of Onv aha and Ronald F, Nichols of Plattsmouth were married Ap ril 4 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church In Omaha. Dr. A. H. Pln kall officiated at the double ring ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Wlllard W. Bal lou of Omaha are parents of the bride and Mr. and Mrs. Lester Nichols of Plattsmouth are par ents of the bridegroom. For the wedding, the bride wore a gown of chantllly type lace over taffeta with a scoop neckline and wrist length sleev es. The fingertip bridal veil was caught to a pearl crown. She carried a bouquet of orchids and white carnations. Miss Jo Ann Nichols, sister of the bridegroom, was maid of honor. She wore a ballerina length dress of blue nylon. Miss es Diane and Linda Ballou, sis ters of the bride, were brides maids. They were gowned In matching ballerina length dress. es of pink and lavendar. The bride's sisters, Rayann and Susan Ballou, were candle lighters and the flower girl was Pauletta Kroeger, the bride's cousin. Best man was Larry Wiysel of Plattsmouth. Urihers were David White and Ernest Kurtz of Omaha. The bride's 'mother wore a navy blue suit with pink acces sories. The bridegroom's mother wore beige lace with brown ac cessories. After a short trip to the Oz arks, the young couple are now at home in Omaha. Riverview Club At Creamer Home Riverview Club met April 9 at the home of Mrs. Georgia Creamer with Mrs. Alva Deter ding as co-hostess. President Mrs. Blanche Nick les called the meeting to order and Mrs. Lee Cundall, a new member, was welcomed. Mrs. Furlong had the enter tainment and prizes were given. There was also a drawing for a quilt. Hostesses served lunch at the close of the social gathering. mW Son T-Sgt. Son Born to Mr. and Mrs. Rob ert Moore, a 7 pound, 13V2 ounce boy April 14 at Rivera, Calif. Mrs. Moore is the former Jan et Kalasek. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. George Kalasek, Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Moore. The great - grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Harry Shiffer. Son Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ganna way of Union are parents of a son, born April 12 at St. Mary's Hospital, Nebraska City. Mrs. Gannaway is the former Phyl lis Brown. Daughter Mr. and Mrs. Steven Gray of Cedar Creek are parents of a daughter f born April 12 at St. Mary's Hospital, Nebraska City. Wednesday, April 22 Cass County Historical Socie ty will meet at the Murray Pres byterian Church at noon. Mr. Kivett from Lincoln of the State Historical Society will be a guest. Lucky Ladies Club At Gardner Home Lucky Ladies Club met at the home of Mrs. Georgia Gardner Wednesday evening. Elsie Krause, Lillian Dasher, Joan Loffer, Joan Melsinger, Cleo Armstraut and Louise D' Crole of Omaha were guests. Others attending were Gerald ine Tobin, Evelyn Smith, Mary Lou Welsh, Meredith Grove, Shirley Grace, Charlotte Gall, Georgia Gardner and Mrs. Mor rill. $11.30 was realized from an white elephant sale. A surprise gift was presented to Mrs. Ton! Morrll who is leav ing the city to make her home in Maine. Games were played after which Mrs. Gardner served lunch. Next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Gall May 20th. Jaycees, Wives Have 1st Dance The Plattsmouth Jaycees held their first dance of the year April 11 at the Lions Club. They reported a good turn out. Although this was not a mon ey making project, the Mrs. Jaycees held a profit making project in conjunction with the dance, serving lunch at the dance and having a cake walk. A door prize of a cake given by the Mrs. Jaycees went to Jaycee Larry Jenkins. Plattsmouth Deanery Has Meet Thursday The Spring meeting of the Plattsmouth Deanery of the DCCW at St. Benedict's Church in Nebraska City drew some 75 ladies and clergy to enjoy the sessions. Mrs. Edward Berlett of Platts mouth presided at the sessions. In the election of officers, Mrs. Joe Barry of Nebraska City was elected president; Mrs. F. I. Rea, Plattsmouth, first vice president; Mrs. C. W. Conklin, Palmyra, second vice-president; Mrs. Louis Poggemeyer, Syra cuse, third vice-president, and Mrs. Joe Murphy, Weeping Wa ter, auditor. Mrs. E. G. Ruffner of Platts mouth was re-named secretary; Mrs. Ed McCord, Nebraska City, re-elected treasurer; Mrs. Joe Waltz and Mrs. Jack Speck hals, Nebraska City, delegates; Mrs. Emil Lutz, Avoca, and Mrs. Eugene Schreiner, Nebraska CI ty, alternates; Mrs. Paul Knoll, 8Uhrector at large for one year, and Mrs. Berlett, director for two years. Emil Lutz of Avoca won the children's shrine contest, Rose mary Wirt, Avoca, second, and Christine Uher, Plattsmouth, third.; Safety contest winners were Mike Donlan, Elmwood, first; Cheryl Gude, second, and Bar bara Behrns, Avoca, third. Rev. Peter Gadient was mod erator for the panel discussion. Four students from St. Bernard Academy, Lucille Volkmer, Mar lene Volkmer, John Ricketts and Jerry Schmitz were panel mem bers. The students at St. Benedict's school furnished a musical pro gram preceding luncheon serv ed by members of St. Benedict Christian Mothers and Altar Soc iety. Long of Pacific Junction, student nurse at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha, had an unusual treat afforded her recently.
