Har. ry Marquardt sold his home to Norton Johnson. Mr. Marquardt plans to build so there will be no moving until later in the year. Mrs. John Mohr came home from General Hospital Thurs day after being confined there following a tooth extraction. . Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cezschin were called to Colby, Kan., last week by the death of her broth er, Henry Vette. Rev. and Mrs. Val Johnson, Crescent, Okla., announced the birth of a daughter recently. There are 5 brothers waiting to welcome the sister home.- Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Emshoff announce the birth of a dauRhter Feb. 14 at Bryan Memorial Hos pital, Lincoln. Maternal grand mother is Mrs. Bryan Seegel, Avoca. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John Em shoff, Avoca, and paternal great grandmother, Mrs. Sophie Em shoff. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kirkhoff announce the birth of a son Feb. 15 at Bryan Memorial. Ma ternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Paul Linhardt, Avoca, and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kirkhoff. Weep ing Water. Maternal great-grand. mothers are Mrs. Dora Olden berg and Mrs. Carrie Linhardt, both of Avoca. Paternal great grandmothers are Mrs. Etta Kirkhoff, Weeping Water, and Mrs. Anna Ludwig, Lincoln. Holy Trinity Guild met Tues day with Mrs. Ralph Meyer. Mrs. Leo Schram. president, presided. It was voted to serve the Louis Rogal farm sale. Mrs. Merle Meyer will organize and direct a children's choir. Word was received here Fri day of the sudden death of Mrs. Mary Meyer of Syracuse. Mrs. Meyer was attending a World Day of Prayer service at First Lutheran Church when she was stricken. Her daughter is Mrs. Alvina Nutzman of Unadilla. Word was received of the death of Mrs. Clarence Tefft, Weeping Water. She was born north of Avoca and lived in the community until her marriage when they moved to Weeping Water. William Luce went to St. Loij is Sunday to attend the Nation al Bicycle Convention. The Woman's Fellowship held a pancake and sausage supper Wednesday. There were 83 per sons served in spite of bad roads and weather. Mrs. George Meyer spent last week at the home of her dau ghter and family, the Ed Lin hardts in Beatrice. The Avoca Congregational Church observed the World Day of Prayer Friday evening. The service was in charge of the missionary committee of the Wo man's Fellowship, chairman Mrs. Elmer Hallstrom. The theme was "Lord. I Believe." Mrs. Elmer Hennings and Mrs. Earl Freeman were other mem bers of the committee assisting with the service. Mrs. John Emshoff and Mrs. Maurice Ruge honored Sally Bal lance at a pantry shower Sat urday at the church parlors. The games were bridge bingo and the letters of Stanley Em shoff's name were made into jingles which caused much mer riment. Mrs. Glenn Stubbendick read a poem about husbands. Refreshments were in the va lentine motif and colors. Woman's Fellowship of the Congregational Church met on Thursday in the church with Mrs. John Wolph, Mrs. Elmer Hallstrom leading the devotion al service. Due to illness, there was not a large number pre sent. Most of the afternoon was spent quilting. A special meeting was held at the school, attended by pat rons of District 20 Thursday eve. ning. After much discussion it was voted to keep the high school at least for another year. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Czeschin were in Nebraska City Thursday to see her sister. Mrs. Hemphill who has been seriously ill but is now a little better. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Freeman went to Union Sunday to see her mother. Mrs. Lydia Mid kiff. They found her ill in bed so brought her here to Avoca so they could care for her. Mrs. Paul Straub gave her pupils and mothers a valentine party. They enjoyed trying to identify baby pictures. Mrs. Straub teaches at District 96 in Manley. Mrs. Ralph Meyer and Mrs. Anthony Wirth honored Mrs. Richard Shioley (nee Barbara Pummel) at a miscellaneous shower Sunday at the Ralph Meyer home. Miss Pummel and Richard Shipley were married recently. Fr. ' Elmer McFadden, Syra cuse, entered Veterans Hospital in Omaha for eye surgery this week. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Straub, Bernie and Jerry visited at tlK Oscar Schumacher home in Lin coln Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Marquardt attended their niece's, Nancy Heil's, wedding Saturday at Rus sel, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Buck holz attended the wedding of Doris Buckholz and Ralph Gra dy at Immanuel Lutheran ,. at Louisville Saturday night. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Cloyd and Mrs. Hefner of Syracuse and Robert Hallstrom were in Topeka, Kan., over the weekend, called by the death of the in fant son of Lt. Fredric and Mrs. Hefner. Graveside services were held Monday. Mrs. Jerry Johnson and Mrs. James Jensen honored Miss Sally Ballance at a housewares show er Saturday evening. Mrs. William Wulf entered St. Mary's Hospital Sunday for treatment. Miss Meta Mueller is taking a leave of absence from her business here and Mrs. Lynn Hoback will take care of the bus iness while she is away. Miss Mueller will visit her sister. Mrs. Uyrl Livers accompanied Keith Livers to Lincoln General hospital Sunday evening to visit her new grandson and daughter-in-law Mrs Keith Livers. The baby was born to Mr. and Mrs. Keith Livers Saturday, Febr. 14, weigh 9 lbs 15 oz. and has been named Uyrl Keith. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Dill and LaVerna spent Saturday and Sunday with Mr and Mrs. Oscar Dill. Mrs. Glen Kuhn and Linda, and Mrs. James Wiszmann at tended a stork shower for Mrs. Dean Webb at Ashland Satur day afternoon. Miss Janice Dill of Lincoln came Friday evening to spent the week end with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Dill and boys. The family were Saturday evening dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Sartin at Omaha. James Dill accompanied by Rolland Beetison of Ashland left Friday for a vacation trip to Detroit, Michigan James called his parents Sunday that they had arrived safe and were enjoy ing tight seeing around the city. Mrs. Bill Rosencrans and son Jack attended the wedding of Miss Doris Buchholz and Ralph Grady at the Immanuel Lut heran Church near Louisvvile Saturday evening.. Bill Carnicle of Humbolt and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Carnicle and children spent Sunday evening with Mr. and Mi's. J. L. Carnicle.
