Edward Ktcmkamp , Secretary No. 4241 Jail. 19. 22, 1959. Life Story Of Charles L. Byers Pioneer Resident Charles L. Byers, 84, pioneer resident of Cass County and a resident of the Walthill, Neb., community since 1913, passed away at the home of his son, Julian C. Byers of David City, Nebr., on January 8, 1959. Fol lowing a relatively short period of disability. Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, January 11th in the Walthill Methodist chur ch, the Rev. Melvln Commack officiating. During the services organ Interludes "An Evening Prayer" and "Abide With Me" were played by the church or ganist, Mrs. Ralph Copenhaver. Burial was at Evergree cemetery, Walthill, with Charles E. Bou ghn, Wiliam M. Hopper, Pender and George E. Sappenfield, Henry Beard, Harold Cornwell, and Earl Burkhart of Walthill, casket bearers. Mr. Byers is survived by his four sons, Charles A., Sious City; James J., Berkley, Calif.; Don ald H., Omaha and Julian C, David City, Nebr.; two daugh ters, Mrs. Faye Vane, Berkley, Calif.; Mrs. Bennie J. Franson of Rosalie and other relatives and friends. He was a cousin of Judge J. H. Graves of this city. Charles Luther Byers, son of Joseph and Mary E. Graves Byers, was born on July 9, 1874. He was the oldest of four child ren of the Byers family. The others in order were sons, Lee, Walter, and a daughter, Orlena Byers Wayatt, they all preceded Charles in death. Charles being the last of the family. He was born in Bartlett, Fremont coun ty, la., and while yet a small child he was brought by the par ents to Cass county, Nebraska. He was married to Minnie L. Baker on February 8, 1897. This marriage union lasted over 60 years and was broken by the death of Mrs. Byers in June 1957. They lived in Rock Bluffs and Nebraska City before moving to Walthill in 1913. He worked on the construction of the Piocotte hospital at Walthill and later as a mechanic in a garage until 1919 when he started to work for the city in the light and water department, later serv ing as city electrician until 1930 and with the Central States Electric Co. He retired perman ently from work when reaching the age of 70. Mr. Byers was an ardent base ball fan and player from his childhood and even continued playing with Walthill until after 70 years old. Funeral Of Ersy L. McNurlin Held At Greenwood Ersy L. McNurlin, 66, of Green wood, passed away Sunday. Mr. McNurlin has been a resident of Greenwood for some years, a veteran of world war I, and for the greater part of his lifetime was engaged as an electrician. He wras a member of the Masonic order being a member of Omaha lodge No. 288. Surviving are the wife, Norma; daughters, Mrs. Patricia Bran des of Wichita, Kan.; Mrs. Del pha Navrairil, Tupunga, Calif.; brothers, Vere of York and Carl of Corvallis, Ore. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Greenwood Christian church, Rev. C. A. Park, officiating, Graveside services at the Green wood cemetery was conducted by Omaha lodge 288. Pallbearers were Edward and Earl Stradley, Harold Pilford, Maynard Grif fith, Ralph Clymer and William Kelly. Obituary of Frank Koch of West Bend Frank Koch. 74, was born on a farm near Whittemore. Iowa, Nov. 15, 1885, and died Dec. 28, 1958. at the Spenser, Iowa, hospital. Burial was at the West Bend, Iowa, cemetery Dec. 30. Masonic rites were conducted by Templar Lodge No. 514 AF and AM of West Bend. Mr. Koch on Jan. 29, 1927, was married to May Schlicht emeier at Nehawka. Son Mr. and Mrs. Neil Fitzpatrick of Weeping Water are parents of a son born January 19th at St. Mary's hospital, Nebraska City. Mrs. Fitzpatrick is the former Mary Hartley. Daughter Mr. and Mrs. Durwood Mather of Weeping Water are parents of a daughter born January 18 at St. Mary's hosital, Nebraska City. Mrs. Mather is the former Lucil le Pebley. Miss Patton has been at the Methodist hospital under going treatment and is now at the home of her sister, Mrs. Ted Trlplett at Council Bluffs. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Troop of Delta, Colo., who have been visit ing with their relatives in Ca.ss county, have departed for the south where they will visit in Florida, Tennessee, the Carollnas and Virginia with relatives of Mrs. Troop. While here they visited with Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Troop, parents of Earl, as well as with Robert Troop and family of Syracuse, George and Tom Troop.
