NEWS FROM AVOCA Mrs. Henry The Avoca Woman's Club met Wednesday with Mrs. J. W. Brendel. Mrs. Louis Stueekrath, Mrs. Elden Ahrens and Mrs. George Allen gave the origin of Santa Claus and Christmas songs. There was a gift ex change and a gift was also brought to go to a hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Dettner, Syracuse, announce the birth of a daughter Dec. 17 at Syracuse hospital. Mr. and Mrs. William Dettmer of Avoca are grandpar ents. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lehr of Lincoln had a son, bon Dec. 17 at Lincoln General Hospital. She Is the former Darlene Kepler and maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kepler of Avoca. Maternal great - grand mother is Mrs. Wlllaim Kepler. The 4 Corner Club held their Christmas party at the Harry Ehmke home Wednesday night for their families. Prizes at; cards went to Mr. and Mrs. Wil mer Harshman. Mrs. Levi Wil son, Mrs. John Compton and Mai. coltn Pollard. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Freeman went to Kansas City to the home of his brother Frank and family Sunday to ioin other relatives for a pre-Christmas dinner. The Sunshine Club held a Christmas party at noon Tues day for dinner at the Harvey Dettmer home. There was a gift exchange. Maseman hestess. Others there were Mrs. Minnie Neumeister. Bertha Neu meister, Mrs. J. H. F. Ruhge, and Mrs. Earl Freeman. Gilbert Neumeister is a pat ient at St. Mary's hospital in Nebraska City. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Heebner and Evelyn took his mother, Mrs. Heebner. to Lincoln where she will visit her two daughters of Denver. Mrs. Roy Ruhge gave a cof fee Wednesday morning. Pre sent were Mrs. Leonard Have man and son, Mrs. George Al len and children, Mrs. Louis Stueekrath and daughter, Mrs. John Wolph and son, Mrs. Ro bert Hallstrom and son and Mrs. Laurence Wulf. Santa made a brief visit in Avoca Saturday with treats for the children. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ruhge vis ited at the Wayne Redden home in York Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. John Emshoff entertained the Neighborhood Club Friday evening for supper and cards. Prizes to Mr. and Mrs. Hans Jensen, Mrs. William Dettmer, Mrs. Martha Ruge and John Mohr. Clarence and Ernest Remter, Hamburg, Iowa, visited wflth Mrs. Seegel and Crystal, Sun day. Mrsc. Harvey Marquardt re turned Wednesday from Los An geles where she spent several weeks visiting her son Mason McGee. They had a pre-Christmas dinner and their guest was Francis Marquardt. A steak fry was held at the cafe Saturday evening honor ing Mr. and Mrs. Chester Noerr linger on their wedding anniv ersary. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Lenord Haveman, Mr. and Mrs. LeRov Haveman, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Noerrlinger and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Noerrlinger. John Emshoff and Clarence Koester attended a company seed corn party at East Hills, Lincoln, Wednesday evening. In the evening, they attended the Christmas program at Lutheran Memorial church where the Hennings grandchil dren were in the program. Judging of the Christmas light ing sponsored by the Goldenrod Garden Club was Saturday eve ning. Prizes in two classes were: Busine s, Post Office, 1st; Eh lers Feed Store, 2nd; Coffee Cup Cafe, 3rd. Residences Roy Ruhge, 1st; Gus Wohlers, 2nd; A. W. Carr, 3rd. Cash pri zes were awarded. Some 50 hom es and 11 business places took part. The Lions Club held their monthly meeting at the cafe on Tuesday evening for supper. Af terwards thev went to the El mer Hallstrom home for a gift exchange and played bingo. Ann Marquardt and Robert Marquardt are home for the Christmas holidays. Ann has her foot in a cast and is on crutches. She stepped off a curb in Lincoln and suffered the in jury. Mr. and Mrs. John Stubben dick had a pre-Christmas dinner Sunday for their families and children: Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Stubbendick and family, Otoe; Mr. and Mrs. Irving Stubben dick and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Sehlhoff and fam ily of Syracuse; Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Carr of Lincoln, Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Clark of Dunbar and Glen Sweepel of Cook. A pre-Christmas dinner was enjoyed at the home of Mrs. Sophie Emshoff Sunday by the following: Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Emshoff and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Emshoff and family. Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Emshoff and girls, all of Avoca; Mr. and Mrs. William Emshoff of Nebra ska City; John Berner, Roger and Joan of Tecumseh; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Wessel and Kay and May Berner of Lincoln. Also, Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Mather and children of Weep ing Water; Mrs. Dena Ruge and Frances, Avoca; Sally Ballance, Eagle, and Elvin Osmera and Allen Novack of David City. The Avoca Homemakers 4-H Club went caroling Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mar quardt entertained his Sunday school class for supper Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Kuenning spent the weekend here from Ogallala with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Buckholz. Mr. and Mrs. Merle Tressler have moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa, from Vincent. Mr. and Mrs. William Dett mer and Lena Roloff of Otoe were in Omaha Sunday and had dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Lau rence Roloff. Lifestory Of H. J. Addyman, Formerly Of Louisville Herbert James Addyman pass ed away at the Mile High Nurs ing Home in Denver, on Decem ber 20, 1958 at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 18 days. He was born at Storm Lake, Iowa on March 2, 1876. His wife pre ceded him in death three years ago. Since his wife's death he has made his home with his son, Roy at Blackhawk, Colo. He leaves to mourn his passing two sons, Roy of Blackhawk, Colo., and Wil liam of Central Ctiy, Colo.; one brother, George of Fargo, N. D. and one sister, Mrs. Agnes Fell of Temple City, Colo.; 9 grand children and 18 great grand children, and a host of relatives and friends. "Pop", as he was called by his many friends had a restaurant business for many years in Louisville and retired 14 years ago. Services were Tuesday, Decem er 23, 1958 at 2:00 p.m. from the Fusselman Funeral Home Cha pel. Rev. Merle Zook, officiating. Mrs. Laura Gess, Organist, Mrs. Doris Hirsch, Soloist. The songs were "The Old Rugged Crosi" and "Asleep in Jesus." Pall bearers were Ross Nichols, Har vey Koop, Vernon Urwin, Fred Reichart, Aaron Doan, and Bill Ingram, Sr. Committal at River view cemetery, Louisville.
