John Peters of Swanton. Neb., will soon depart for North Africa, accompanied by his wife, Mar tha F. of Murdock, to resume his work with the International Cooperation Administration. Mr. and Mrs. Peters were home on leave in the United States following completion of an assignment in Libya, where Peters served as eraln storage advisor to the Government of Libya under the U. S. Mutual Security Program since Septem ber, 1956. Prior to this assign ment, he served with the ICA Mission in Jordan. Peters worked throughout the three provinces of Libya, wes- ,ass fl neatre Portsmouth, Nebr. tern Tripolitania, Fezzan in the south and easter Cvrenaica, which was once called the "bread basket" of Rome. Ruins scattered over the land testify to populous cities where now it is difficult to discern two bedouin dwellings on the hori zon. During the time of her ancient prosperity, much of the steppe land of Libya the coastal strip was forested and other steep slopes covered with natural ve getation. Over a period of many years, however, the soil has been continuously cropped by I over-grazing with almost no ef fort to prevent erosion, so that every year the desert creeps a little closer to the sea. Never theless, more than three-fourths of the population are occupied with agriculture and animal hus bandry. Barley and wheat are the principal crops grown, bare ly meeting domestic require ments and providing little ex portable surpluses. The United States has supple mented Libya's scarce wheat supply under a gift wheat pro gram provided by Title II, Pub lic Law 480. At the age of fourteen she was confir med by her father Rev. Jung at Wasco, Nebr Later, the family moved to Louisville, Nebr., where her father Rev Jung was pastor of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. On August 17, 1902 she was united in marriage to John H. Rohrdanz by her father. The union was blessed with two children, Herbert, now living in Weeping Water, and Mrs. Vera Minford of Lincoln. In February 1946, she and her husband retired from the farm and moved to Manley. After several months of poor health, she became bedfast In February of 1949. In June of the same year, she and her husband were moved to the home of her dau ghter, Mrs. Vera Minford in Lincoln where she was cared for until the Lord called her to rest in the evening hours of Decem ber 13, 1958 at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 13 days. Throughout her long illness, she remained steadfast and true In her faith. In spite of a painful crippling illness, she by shipments of some 82,000: derived much pleasure from cor tons of wheat between 1954 and 1957, made available under the provisions of the Agricultural Trade Development and Assist ance Act, which authorizes the use of surplus U. S. farm pro ducts for relief purposes abroad. David Piper Calls From Labrador Sharon Bigeerstaff was pleas, antly surprised Monday evening when she received a telephone call from David Piper who Is stationed in Labrador. David, the son of Floyd Piper of this city is a mechanic in the Air Force going to Labrador Sept. 18 for 18 months. In extending his Christmas greeting to Sharon he stated it was 11 o'clock, being 9 p. m. here, and it was 10 below zero. Wilber M. Brucker, Secretary of th? She has been a member of Immanuel Lutheran church for 64 years where she was also a member of the Ladies Aid. She is survived by her hus band John H. Rohrdanz, living in Lincoln; son Herbert of Weeping Water; daughter, Mrs. Vera Minford of Lincoln; three grandchildren, Mrs. Janice Ro hrdanz Hunt of Boise, Idaho, Donald and Delores Minford; and one great grandchild, Ri chard Louis Hunt; two sisters, Mrs. John Heil and Mrs. Theo dore Burdorf; four brothers, Rev. Martin Jung, Omar Jung, Alvin Jung and Paul Jung. Funeral Of Mrs. John Rohrdanz Held At Louisville Services were held Wednes day afternoon, December 17 at 2:00 P.M. at Immanuel Lutheran church near Louisville, for Mrs. John Rohrdanz, former resident of Manley who has made her home with her daughter since becoming bedfast 10 years ago. The Rev. Lyle Mueller of Louisville and the Rev. W. W. Koenig of Lincoln officiated. Mrs. Frances Neumann was or ganist. Frank Puis accompanied by his mother, Mrs. Earl Puis sang "Asleep in Jesus' and "Be Still My Soul". Mrs. Rohrdanz passed away at the home of her daughter in Lincoln at the age of 77 years 10 months and 13 days. Interment was in the Im manuel Lutheran cemetery. Pallbears, nephews of the de ceased, were Willard Rohrdanz, Wendel Hell, Robert Wiles, Paul Kupke, Carl Meisinger and Leo nard Vogler.
