Wallace Warner, farmer west of the city, returned home Sat urday from the Methodist Hos pital, Omaha where he under went surgery. He is getting along line. v In the rush of Christmas mail ing at the local post office the patrons find a familiar face at the package window. Mrs. Janet Ptak who has served in a clerk's capacity for a number of years is on the job for 1958. Miss Janet Campbell returned this morning from several days spent In Davenport, la., where she was attending a meeting of operators of the T-V Guide pub lications. She made the trip by air and enjoyed It very much. Mrs. Ida Cotner, of San Diego. Calif., who has been here as a guest of her daughter, Mrs James Benedict and family, has departed for the west coast. Mra Cotner was nt Weeping Water to attend the 97th birthday of her mother, Mrs. Parker. Mrs. Cot ner is making her home on the west coast with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cotner. VFW State Commander and Mrs. Dale Bowman and sons; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Fitch; Mr. and Mrs. LeRov Wilson and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Smock attend ed the charter banquet of the Weeping Water VFW Post No. 9099 Sunday evening. Stu Goch enour is commander of the post instituted in March, 1958. Mr. Fitch was emcee. Supper guests of A-2c and Mrs. Gen Belvin Sunday were A-2c and Mrs. Don Johnson. After supper the four attended a movie. Mr. and Charles Comeau and daughter of Waynesvill?, Mo., will spend the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Swltzcr of Nehawka and other relatives in Cass County. Mrs. William Schmidtmann, Sr., was taken to the Methodist hospital .by the Sattler ambul ance for treatment for shock suffered from a fall at her home today. Dick Kalasek was taken to the Veterans hospital at Omaha this morning by the Sattler ambul ance for observation and treatment. Annette Koke, six weeks old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Char les Koke, underwent surgery at Children's Hospital, Omaha, Monday. She is getting along fine. Jerry Gorton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Gorton, has been confined to the family home with the flu. Mr. and Mrs. Herman L. Maas I en returned from a two weeks ; vacation trip to Missouri. They I visited relatives and friends at Jefferson City, Linn, Loose Creek and Bonnots Mill, Mo. A pre holiday family get-to-gether was enjoyed by all. Georgia Gardner entertained at a Christmas Party at her home Wednesday evening. Games were played, prizes won by Wilma Luhers, Helena Mc Graw and Norma Foster. Mrs. Gardner served lunch. Mr. and Mrs. J. G. McMaken ', have just returned from New York City and Philadephia where they have been for several weeks on a business and pleasure trip. W FBI6IDA Frederick Carl Baucrs, Life Was Eventful One LOUISVILLE (Special) Fred erick Carl Bauers was born in Barflus, Pomerania, Germany, June 1, 1858. He was baptized as an Infant in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Germany. As a youth, Frederick Bauers was a shepherd. During his teens he saw the forming of the var ious independent German states into the First German Empire, as an aftermath of the Franco Prussian War. He served in the army of the young empire from Nov. 5, 1879, to Sept. 6, 1882. Shortly after his discharge from military service, he em igrated to America and settled in the Elmwood community. On Feb. 25, 1887, he was united in marriage to Katherine Lohnes in a ceremony at Elmwood. Miss Lohnes had just prior to that arrived from Germany to become his bride. The Frederick Bauers farmed until 1930. They made their home on various farms in Cass County. In 1930, they moved to Manley. Mrs. Bauers died in 1942. The couple had 13 children. Sunday, June 1 of this year, open house was held at the home of his daughter Lizzie in Manley on the occasion of his 100th birthday. Mr. Bauers died at Manley Dec. 1, 1958. at the age of 100 years and six months. He was preceded in death by his wife and two daughters. He is survived bv 11 children: Mrs. Ida Brauckmuller and Mrs. Hulda Davis and Clarence, all of Gardner, N. D.; Ed of Elkmont. Ala.; Mrs. Mary Scli aefer of Murdock; Fred Jr., Weeping Water; Mrs. Lena Fr iederich and George, Louisville; Lizzie Bauers. Mrs. Tressa Keckler and Mrs. Alma Shee han, all of Manley; 25 grand children and 39 great-grandchildren. Graves of this city, advising her of the death of her brother, Ray F. Burton, former resident of Cass county at his home in Long Beach, Calif. Kay F. Burton, son of the late Joseph and Elma Burton, was born at Murray, April 25, 1889 being the seventh child in point of order of the nine children of Mr. and Mrs. Burton. He was married to Miss Sadie I Weaver who survives. From this union two sons were born, Wea ver and Oliver. Mr. Burton was at the time of death aged 69 years, seven months and twenty one days. Surviving: are the widow, of Long Beach; sons, Weaver and Oliver, all residing in the Los Angeles area; four brothers and three sisters, Wesley Bur ton, Portland, Ore.; Guy C. Bur ton, Palmyra, Nebr.; Roy Bur ton, Oakland, Calif.; J. Vance Burton, Milford, Nebr.; Mrs. , Fannie Cook, Norfolk; Mrs. I Alice Joiner, Nebraska City; Mrs. J. H. Graves, Plattsmouth. Those of the family preceding ! him in death are the parents I and one brother, Mark Burton.
