Boy Scout Council Contemplates 459 Fund Campaign The Covered Wagon Council of the Boy Scouts, serving this county and 25 other Northeast ern Nebraska counties, opens its 1959 fund campaign Oct. 21. The Council will conduct dri ves in Plattsmouth and 114 oth er communities which do not have a Community Chest or a United Fund. The campaign goal is $164,816.76 for the 26 county area, Scout officials said. The funds will be used to carry out the 1959 program of Scouting by the Covered Wagon Council which has a goal of 21,000 Scouts and leaders for 1959. Scout Executive J. L. Tarr said the campaign would be based on the promise that "pen nies for scouting" will save dol. lars later in reforming boys who go wrong. A survey has shown that it costs "more than 100 times as rHC PLATTSMOUTH, NEBRASKA, SCMI-WCCKLY JOURNAL Monday, Oct. 13, 1958 PAGE THREE much to keep a boy in reform school as the cost of serving a boy in Scouting," Tarr said "It costs $1,332.25 per boy each year at the Kearney Boys Train ing School," he said, basing the figure on the period ending June 30, 1957. The cost to the Covered Wa gon Council for serving boys in 1957 amounted to some $12.50 per registered member." Tarr noted that 98 boys from 26 counties in the council area are now committed to the train ing school. The cost of keeping them there, he said, is greater than the cost of serving more than 12,000 boys in Scouting. -ft A i 1 4k . i ECONOMY CROP DRYER Dries 600 to 1,000 bushels every 24 hours in your wagon.
