Grid pen Date Friday; Coaches Can See Foe 'Judy Garlands' Appearance Here Followed Accident A two car accident 10 miles south of Plattsmouth Friday re sulted in injuries to one pas senger. A northbound car, pulling a trailer containing a show horse, was being driven by Allen Wal ker of Dunbar. Walker was en route with his wife to Platts mouth for a street showing of his horse (Judy Garland) during the KKK. Walker's trailer developed a flat tire so he pulled off the road onto the east shoulder. He then pulled buck onto the high way and across it to the west and was in the process of pul ling into a farm driveway on the west side of the road when the accident occurred. Sheriff Tom Solomon said. The southbound car driven by Lowell D. Rieke of Union. Kieke told Solomon h saw the Wal ker car pull back onto the high way and assumed it would con tinue north. Walker said he did not see the oncoming Rieke car before he made his left turn. ' Mrs. Olycle Walker received internal Injuries and was treat ed by a Plattsmouth doctor. Walker still managed to drive his damaged car to Plattsmouth in order to keep his KKK date. Firemen Enjoy Staging Water Fight Saturday Saturday night at 4th and Main the question was who was having more fun the audience or the Volunteer Firemen in a Witer Fight? Plattsmouth Volunteer Fire men were host to Bellevue, Red Oak and Glenwood, Iowa. Al though there was no elimination, there was much enjoyment for the crowd and firemen. Four men manned each team. Earlier in the -week Platts mouth Volunteer Firemen stag ed a ladder demonstration and had a fight among themselves. Glenwood Volunteer Firemen have extended an invitation to the Plattsmouth group Oct. 5 to give a ladder demonsration in lieu of the kick-off for Fire Pre vention Week. Omaha Car Exhibitors Tops Omaha exhibitors took away top honors Saturday at the Crossrods Club's first Auto Show here. Dennis Johnson, 20, Omaha, won first place in the Semi -Convertible Class with a 1957 Ford Convertible; 2nd place went to Dick Workman,, 21, Omaha, 1957 Chevrolet Conver tible. In the Semi - Custom Class, Roy W. Branson, 27, Omaha, took first place with his 57 Ford Custom. Dick Nelson, 20, came in second with a 53 Ford Tudor custom. Full Custom Class trophy went to Bob Beauden, 21, Omaha, for his 1950 Tudor Chevrolet; 2nd, place was awarded to Don Free burg, 21, Plattsmouth, 1953 Ford Tudor. Bob Beaudine was voted by the public as having the most popular car. Miss Custom, voter by visitors to the show was Jean Marler, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Marler, Plattsmouth. Her at tendants were Diana Allison and Nadine Weiss. Flood Control Administrator's Duties Detailed Mayor Grant Roberts was au thorized Monday night by the City Council to sign a document detailing the responsibilities of the Flood Control Administra tor for the Plattsmouth water shed. Phone 285 Plattsmouth High's football squad has an open date Friday and the coaching staff will have a chance to see the squad's next foe, Westside, in action. Coach Bill Hawkins and his staff plan to see the Bellevue at Westside game Friday night. While the varsity rests from game activity it has been extra busy on the practice field, Haw gins working the players hard to try to iron out mistakes which showed up in the 7-7 tie at Crete and 0-13 loss to Beatrice. ' Al Dasher, halfback who suf fered a painful neck injury last week, is still stiff-necked but has been out for practice. He's been kept out of contact work. s Halfback Jim Shown Is back in contact practice after missing the Beatrice game. Otherwise, Hawkins says, the squad is in good physical con dition and should be at full strength for the annual clash with Westside, here Oct. 3 at 7:30. DECON Club Organized Here The students enrolled in the part time training class of Platts mouth High School have organ ized their class into a local club in conjunction with the Distrib utive Education Clubs of Amer ica. The Distributive Education Club of America (DECA) is a student organization made up of affiliated state distributive clubs, in turn, are composed of; U local clubs whose members are enrolled in local vocational dis tributive education classes. Ne braska holds a charter in the parent club, DECA, and all lo cal clubs in the state are mem bers of the DECON. The following officers were e lected to serve for the school year 1958-59 in the local DECON Club: President, Tom Winscot; vice president, Kenneth Pritchard; secretary-treasurer, Larry Hen ry. Joe C. York of the Platts mouth High School faculty is the sponsor of the retailing club and co-ordinator of the local distributive education program. Casey Tells of 'Air Cadet' Exchange Trip Francis M. Casey, local attor ney, Tuesday told the Rotary Club about his recent free trip to Europe with a Civil Air Patrol-Air Force sponsored group. The program is one sponsored by the groups to exchange vi sits between U. S. teenagers in terested in aviation and "cad ets" from foreign countries. Ca sey said he was invited as a law yer to go on the tour. The group with which Casey traveled spent most of its time in Spain, after being flown by Air Force planes to the Azores, England and Germany. Casey commented on We In England, Germany and Spain and attitudes toward Americans in those countries. He said that In his experience the English seemed antagonistic toward Americans, the Germans friendly and the Spanish a little awed by supposed wealth of Am ericans. Casey commented that he thou ght wrong impressions of Amer ica and Americans are being spread by conduct by some Am ericans abroad. He said it would be well for this country to give some attention to the ones it Is allowing to leave the country as well as those permitted to come in; Del Heedum was chairman for the Rotary program.
