Meeting of Sept. 8, 1958 Council Chambers City Hall City Council met in regular session at 8:00 o'clock P.M. with the following present, Mayor Grant Roberts, Councilmen George Kalasek, Louis Swobo da, Wm. G. Highfield and City Clerk Albert Olson, Absent: Councilman L. W. Moore. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. City Special Engineer's were present and presented the esti mate of cost on the Thayer St. & Chicago Ave. sewer project to be known as Sanitary Sewer Dist. No. 15. Matter was laid over to the special Meeting to be held Sept. 9th at 6 p.m. Pursuant to request of George Bax the Council agreed to in stall tile to their property line of the same type and size of tile now in place in street. Motion carried that Council is receptive to the R. R. Co. sub mitting their proposition in writ ing for study by City Attorney as to the cost of installation of the crossing protection. Following discussion regard ing the condition of the Ceme tery Road, it was decided the Mayor, Council and Rep. of Chamber ot Commerce will meet with the Co. Commissioners in the possibility of establishing this as a secondary road. Motion carried to block off several parking places on 6th St., on Sept. 20 for the Gover nors car and other dignitaries in cooperation with the K.K. Karnival Com. Motion carried permission be granted to Junior Chamber of Commerce to set up ' dunking machine'' in front of Fire Hall during K. K. Karnival subject to approval of the Fire Dept. Motion carried that City At torney draw up an ordinance prohibiting blocking of side walks by any vehicle, amending Ord. No. 49. Fred Bishop was present and made complaint about. Police Officer Fairchild using profane language to Juveniles. Matter was referred to May and Police Chief. James Beglcy was present re presenting the School Board and stated that suit has been field in Dist. Court to declaire void the special improvement taxes levied in Pav. Dist. No. 101 against Sublot 1 of Lot 5 in the South half of the SW quarter of Sec. 18, T 12, R. 14 now open ed by the School Dist. but the Board is willing to compromise for 30 cents per lineal foot which amounts to approximately $150. 00. Matter was referred to City Attorney. , Motion carried permission be granted subject to requirements to O. W. Finney to excavate and cut pavement in Hillcrest Drive for sanitary sewer service to the property of T. W. Funeral Rites For Mrs. Hannah Keefer On Friday Funeral services for Mrs. Han nah Keefer. member of a well known pioneer family of Cass County was held Friday, Sept. 12, at 2 p. m. at the Volland Funeral Home in Milford, Nebr. Rev. Melvin Shafer. pastor of the Mvnard E. U B. Church conducted the services which brought comfort to the bereav ed members of the family. Ray mond C. Cook, of Omaha, a close friend of the deceased and her familv. sang two solos, "In the Garden" and "No Might There", accompanist was Mrs. Delia Rogers of Milford. Casket bearers were Robert R. Cole, Dick Keefer, Charles Samuelson, George Jacobs, Ja mes Chapman and Alan Slater, grandsons of the deceased. Bur ial was in the family lot at Alvo where a short graveside service was held and where a large number of old friends and neighbors had gathered to pay their last respects. Hannah Skiles-Keefer was born Sept. 10, 1867 near Madison, Wise, and departed his life Sept. 9, 1958, at the home of her daughter in Milford. Had death been delayed an hour or so she would have passed away on her ninety-first birthday. While still a young girl her parents and family moved west settling near Glenwood, la., whe re they resided a few years and later moved to Alvo. It was here the deceased grew to ma ture womanhood and took an active part in the community affairs, especially in the religious work of the Methodist Church which she joined when a young girl. She retained this member ship throughout her entire life and never missed attending ch urch as long as her physical condition permitted. On Feb. 21, 1889 she was uni ted in marriage t Christley Keef er, son of a well known pioneer family of the community. To this union was born two daugh ters and two sons,, Mrs. Roy O. Cole, of Plattsmouth, Maurice Keefer. Casper, Wyo., Mrs. C. G. Samuelson, Milford, and Donald Keefer, McPherson, Kans. The husband and father pass ed away Nov. 2, 1915 and since that time the deceased has been making her home with her two daughters. Besides her four sons and dau ghters there remains to mourn her passing eight grandchildren ten great grandchildren and sco res of relatives and friends. Death Of Mrs. Richard Keen On Sunday Mrs. Richard Keen, 27, who has made her home in this city for the past year, died Sunday, September 21st, at Offutt Air Base hospital, having suffered for the past four months from luckemia. She was born December 1, 1930 at Glassglow, West Virginia, daughter of Noah and Jessie Lee Hackney Hutton. On February 4, 1950 she was married to Richard A. Keen at Riverside, W. Va. She grew to womanhood in the Cedar Grove, . Va., commun ity and graduated from the East Bank high school. There is surviving her passing, the husband, Richard A. Keen; three small children, daughters, Susan Fay and Cheryl Ann, son Jeffery Wayne, residing at 518 So. 1st street, Plattsmouth; mother, Mrs. Jessie Lee Hutton, Charleston, W. Va.; five bro thers, Paul Hutton, Charleston, W. Va.; John Plattsmouth; Geo rge, James and Noah Lee, all of Cleveland, O. Mrs. Keen was a housewife and devoted to her home and family. She belonged to the Community church and was a very faithful church woman and worked hard in the church af fairs. Funral services will be Tues day at 2 p.m. at the Caldwell Linder chapel, Rev. George Smith officiating. Music will be by Mrs. David Ashby soloist and Mrs. J. L. Hodge, organist. All ; of the family will be here for services. Burial will be at the Oak Hill cemetery with Don Aylor, David Ashby, Leonard Bashus, O. D. Bluck, Stanley Cowan, Robert Yost as pall bearers. THE PLATTSMOUTH, NEBRASKA, Monday, September 22, 1958 Local Funeral Home To Have Arrangement For Air Men Services The Caldwell-Linder Funeral Home were called to Blair Sun day to take charge of the ar rangements for two airman, Hardin K. Hodne, 22, Francis E. Wiskow, 21, who were killed in an auto accident on highway 30, East of Kennard, the car in which they were riding hit a bridge rail. The Airmen were stationed at Lincoln Air Base. Airman Hodne will be sent to Karlstad, Minn, for burial and Airman Wiskow will be sent to St. Charles, Minn, for burial Caldwell-Linder Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Funeral Of Mrs. John Hansell At Union On Friday Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Baptist Church in Union for Mrs. Sarah Hansell, lifelong resident of Lib erty precinct, widow of John C. Hansell. The services were largely at tended by old friends and neigh bors to pay their last tributes to this long time resident. Rev. C. W. Shanklin officiated at the funeral serive. The body lay in state at the Lett funeral home prior to service. Interment was at the East Union cemetery with Winnie Crawford, George Stites, Charles Meredith, Ed Lewis, Ed Morris, H. W. Griffin, Paul Pick ering and Loy Clarence as cas ket bearers. Death Of R. E. Lloyd, Vernon, Texas, Age 73 R. E. Lloyd, 73, well known in Cass county, died Monday at his home 2900 Texas street, Vernon, Texas. He had been ill for sev eral months. Services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Sullivan fun eral home at Vernon. Officiating were Rev. J. C. Pederson, Grace Episcopal church and Rev. Hanna, Tom Summer our, Keith Berry and Bert Lis man all of Vernon. Surviving are his wife; sisters Mrs. Robert Ferrell of Vernon and Mrs. William Klein, and a nephew, B. M. Lloyd of Dallas. Mr. Lloyd was born February 20, 1885 in Beatrice, Neb. He married Edith Jean, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Jean, Au gust 12, 1908 at Plattsmouth. Mr. Lloyd first came to Vernon in 1906 but has lived in several other cities before he retired and moved back to Vernon in 1935. Oscar Howe, (52, resident of Plattsmouth in the early twen ties, passed away Thursday at the family home 2533 Avenue B, Council Bluffs. Mr. Howe was here for a num ber of years and was a well known and popular figure among the younger residents. He was quite a figure in athletics in the basketball leagues, while a resi dent here. While here Mr. Howe was mar ried to Miss Bernice Richards, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Richards, they mov ed in 1923 to Omaha where he has since been employed at the H & II Chevrolet Co. Surviving are the widow, Ber nice, three daughters, Mrs. Jo; Richter, Murray; Mrs. Clifford Bry.on, Mrs. Robert O'Neill. Co uncil Bluffs, one son, Richard Howe, Detriot. Obituary of Union Native, Mrs. Murray Flora May Smith oldest dau ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Eli M. Smith was born September 19, 1884 on a farm about three miles north east of Union. She spent her childhood in that vicinity and was married March 9, 1904. to David Murray at the home of her grandpar ents, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Grimes near Union. The first five years of their married life was spent on the Davis farm three and half miles west of Murray. They returned to the Union community and lived on the Swan farm north of Union for several years where they were in the path of the 1913 Tornado. They moved to their own farm in November of 1913 and lived there until the death of her hus band Sept. 7, 1932. To this union two children were born Arthur Lewis now re siding at Corydon, Iowa and Davie Margaret now Mrs. Robert Alexander residing at West Yellowstone, Montana. There are three grandchildren, Floyd Murray, Mrs. Colcen Bay and Lyle Alexander and four great grandchildren, Daniel and Bry an Murray, Cheryl and Russell Bay. With exception of two years spent in California. Mrs. Murray has spent her entire life time in Cass County. Her parents and four brothers beside the husband have preceded her in death. There is one sister, Mrs. Datfie Buck of Stackton, Calif., also two nephews, Delbert and Duanc Smith, a niece Mrs. Lillian Lane. Mrs. Murray raised her nephew Duane from infancy and he was as dear to her as her own child ren. She united with the Cumber land Presbyterian church at Union, Nebr., in her early teens. When that church was disband ed, she united with the Metho dist church in Union. Later she became a member of the Seven th Day Adventist church in Weeping Water, Nebr. Mrs. Murray spent the past eighteen years in Rest Haven Home in Weeping Water, Nebr., a victim of Arthurtis. Thru hT many years of suffering she re tained a wondeiiul sense of humor was always sweet and understanding with others. Mrs. Murray had recently failed rapidly and passed away Sept. 15, 1058 at 10 a.m. just four days before her 74th birthday. Funeral services for Mrs. Mur ray were held Thursday. Sept. 18, 1958 at the Methodist church in Union Rev. Arthur Embree officiated. Burial was in East Union Cemetery. Low Bids Arc Announced By Highway Dept.
