Following Is an account of their trip with Mr. Reade). They are back home in Platts mouth now but the Robert Read es are still feeling the glow of their 7V2-week trip to 12 Europ ean countries. They drove 4,000 miles by car on the Continent besides their ship, railroad, bus and plane travel. They sailed for Europe on the "Italia M.S." and returned on the "Hanseatic" from Cuxhaven, Germany. In between those sail ings were nearly two months of sightseeing, plus the impor tant visit to the Congress in Man chester. The Reades stopped off at Ply mouth, England, first, then tour ed England, Wales and Ireland. They flew from Dublin to Man chester. Highlight of the Congress, they say, was demonstration of the vibration method of treatment for deafness. It shows the rela tionship between musical train ing and language and speech for deaf children. Children used in the demon stration were from Holland and were from 11 to 18 years old. The Reades watched them "lis ten" and watch telling of a story about a poem. She read the po em rhythmically and the chil dren followed the movements of her hands. The new vocabulary was developed. Then the children composed music for the poem. They acted out the poem and gave an in terpretative dance. An added thrill in connection with the Congress for Mrs. Reade and Bob was a visit with the Lord Mayor of London. They were among 1,500 Congress mem bers who visited the Mayor and his Council. The Reades struck up a con versation with the Lord Mayor though they didn't know it was he for he was in civil dress. The thrill came when they found out who he was. Mr. Reade joined the family in London (which is near his birthplace. Belvedere, Kent). The Reades then visited their daughter and family in Frank furt, Germany, and their tour of the Continent by car follow ed. They found: Germany's fields "well cared for and bountiful,". Switzerland "beautiful and its people so industrious, peaceful ) and happy." In Austria, they were "cogni zant of being in the old world."
