Saturday visitors at the Frank Uuell home wew Verner Perry of Bis Springs, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Perry of Lincoln. Carol Wilken celebrated her th birthday, Aug. 6 by inviting all the girls in her class at school and a few neighbors. They were Linda Laughlin, Mary Ann Hall, Phyllis Stubbendlck, Cher yl Ann Hollenbeck, Krista Eve land, Kathleen Juilfs. Charmin Drake, Brenda Brummer, Janet Pratt, Eileen Bornemeier and Malinda Schields. They made their party hats, played games Mrs. Emily Gonzales went to Omaha Friday to stay with Ju lie and Mark Dickmyer while Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dickmyer va cation, i The VYSCS met in the Fellow ship room Aug. 8 with Mrs. E. Strabel presiding. Edna Miller, reported a drive for clothing was scheduled. Mrs. B. Stevens, who are located at Harvard, Nebr. Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Borne meier Pamela and Marilyn of Lynwood, Calif., are spending two weeks visiting grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Roy Rhoden and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Borneme mier and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Borne meier, Theron and Mrs. Fern Royer, Lincoln, drove to Worth- ington, Minn., Saturday return , ing Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hall had all their family present for Sun day dinner. They are Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hall and Carolyn of Manhattan, Kans., Mr. and Mrs. Marion Wcndt and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Parriott and Charmaine. All were supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Wendt. The Jim Halls are also visiting her par ents, the Ray Callaways of Una-: dilla. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Borne meier have another grandson, born to Mr. and Mrs. Dick Borne meier of Hastings and has been named Jon. The baby has a brother Tommy and a sister, Barbara Ann. Barbara Bratt, who is 8 years old is visiting several days at the home of Maud and Jessie Creamer. She came with her father, Wendell Bratt of Lin coln, who is the electrician at the Doctor's new building. It is reported that Ralph Dorr Is still in the hospital but is convalescing satisfactorily. Also that Harry Greene is doing well following surgery several days ago. Mrs. Bertha Oehlerking is now at the home of her daughter, : Mrs. Donal Fredenburg and is being cared for by her. Charles Marshall was taken ill the past week and entered Bry an Hospital for observaton. He ! is feeling better at this time, but will undergo surgery Wed nesday of this week. i The funeral services for Hu bert Lorensen, who was killed Saturday on the highway near Eagle, is being held Tuesday ! here in the Christian Church. ! His wife, Irene is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bogen rief of Elmwood. ' Mr. and Mrs. Ted Koehler and Jimmy of Harvard visited from Tuesday until Thursday at the heme of her parents, Mr. and , Mrs. Ed Rosenow. Mrs. Koehler was Berdena Rosenow. The three , children of the Lester Rosenow's Marie, John and Bobby, vi sited at the Ted Koehler home for three days the past week. Eighty acres of land belong ing to the Mary Miller estate has been sold to Lester Rose now and a quarter section was i sold to Mvrl Miller. Our school cooks. Mrs. Lois Krecklow and Mrs. Geneva Gro 1 ves attended the State School of Instruction in Lincoln. Dorcas Society met Friday at the Christian Church with Mrs. Gladys Martin as hostess. The ladies had a white elephant sale. Sunday guests of Mrs. Clara Pershing were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gordon of Fremont. Mrs. Margaret Bond and Bon nie and Mrs. Dr. Mathis of Lin coln called on Mr. and Mrs. Frank Welton Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Carpenter and girls spent the weekend at Lexington visiting their niece and family. Mike Carpenter re turned home with his parents after spending several days at Lexington. Miss Frieda Woitzel and her sister, Mrs. Lewis Wiles, Syra cuse left Wednesday for Stur- ris, S. D. to visit their aunt, Mrs. John Urban. Mrs. Nellie Vant is at the home of her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Evan Armstrong for awhile. Friday callers of Mrs. Emma Appuhn were Mrs. Eva Hires and Mrs. Ivan Hires of Wav erly and Saturday callers were Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Devish. Kay and Ann of Omaha. Mrs. Appuhn is Mrs. Devish's aunt. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Fritch spent the weekend at Columbus and Norfolk and their daughter Jackie returned home with them from her vacation. Their dau ghter, Kay Stolp has also re turned home from her vacation in Minnesota. Osburn received a tele- phone call Wednesday night in forming him his sister, Mrs. Car rie Stanley, of Hawthorne, Calif., had passed away and the bur-. lal was Friday. j Mrs. Stanley had visited with Mr. Osburn and family in June.! She formerly lived in Ashland j and Greenwood several years' ago. i MIAMI. Fla. Charlie Roberts, 23, needed $2,500 for bail on an aggravated assault charge. Bondsman Frank Hull and Murray Singer said they bailed Roberts out after he promised immediate repayment saying, "I got the money at home in a hole in the floor." and offering to wear handcuffs for the trip home. The bondsmen looked on as Roberts pried away at floor boards. Up came a section of flooring. Down into the hole pop ped Roberts. When last seen he was running down a street.
