r WEEPING WATER NEWS Mrs. Edward Van Horn Phone 252-W The Junior Circle of the Chris tian Women's Fellowship met Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Stanley Schroeder. Guests were Mrs. Willard Wipf and children, Mrs. Dave Dennis and daughters and Carolyn Bur ton of Omaha. The meeting was conducted by Mrs. William Klemme. Mrs. Murice Mam mons presented the devotions with song, scripture and prayer. Mrs. Edward Van Horn gave the missionary lesson "Our Neigh bors In Jamaica." She was as sisted in a playlet by her daugh ter, Carol. Plans were discussed for the stand for the Cass Co unty Fair. The meet ing was conducted by the pre i dent, Mrs. George Smith. Mrs. C. F. Weideman conducted a short prayer service at the be ginning of the meeting. Friday, the ladies of the church dressed chickens for ser ving at the Fair. ' Mrs. E. A. Michelsen, Sr. con ducted the devotions, u.-ing as her topic, "The March of Mis sions in Christianity." Colors used for the table were yellow and white, decorated with vases of garden flowers. Linda Amick of Lincoln visit ed the past week with her grandmother, Mrs. Mata Amick. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rehmeier, Mrs. Nan Klepser and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Me-eske and boys were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Detmer and family, honoring the birthday of Mrs. Detmer. Mary Louise, Mrs. Detmer's daughter, baked the birthday cake which was served with ice cream. Mr. and Mrs. Jamie Fleming and children of Bridgeport ar rived Monday and will spend their vacation visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lyal Fleming and with Mr. and Mrs. Don Fleming and other relatives and friends. Election of officers was held Sunday for the Senior High Sun day School Class at the Metho dist Church with Jack Miller elected president and Clarine Petersen elected treasurer. Mr. and Mrs. Lyal Jewell of Livingston, N. Y., is visiting at home of Mr. and Mrs. Troy Je well. They will visit friends and relatives in Weeping Water and Lincoln during their vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jewell and family of Jefferson, la., were recent visitors at the Jewell home. Mr. and Mrs. William Buskirk of San Rafael, Calif., announce the adoption of a baby daughter, Sheryl Lynn who is three mon ths, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Akeson of Weeping Water are the ma ternal grandparents and Mr. and Mrs. N. F. Buskirk of Es condido, Calif., are the paternal grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. John Bender and family of Yanton, S. D. are visit ing at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Patterson and with other relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Patten of Milford are the parents of a daughter, Wendy Sue. She was born on August 4 at Seward. Ma ternal grandmother is Mrs. Phil lip Miller of Weeping Water and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Patten of Lincolnville, Maine. The Patten's have another little girl. Carolyn Burton of Omaha is visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Klemme and Steve for a few weeks. Wednesday evening, Mrs. Klemme and Ca royln were guests of Don Har mon of Avoca. Mr. and Mrs. Harley Thurs land and two children left for their home Monday at Lemon Grove, Calif., after spending a week with Mr. and Mrs. Char les Gibson, Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Gibson and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hays and Tom of Bruning. Georgia Ludwick and Charleen Thoren spent the past week at the Methodist Youth Camp at Camp Sheldon, near Columbus. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Ludwick took the girls to camp. The Busy Belles 4-H Club met Friday at the home of the lead er, Mrs. Clarence Schmadeke for their achievement program. The meeting was conducted by the president, Susan Thomsen. Roll call was answered by naming a food they most enjoyed baking. Maribelle Elliott, junior leader, gave a review of the club's work. Marilyn Schmadeke and Susie Nichols gave a demonstration on biscuits. Linda Schmadeke and Susan Thomsen gave a demon stration on vanilla drop cookies. The mothers of the girls were guests and a lunch was served. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hammons and children of Farragut, la., were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Hammons and family. Mrs. L. J. Lane and Miss Elea nor Lane were Monday evening guests of Mrs. Jane Steinkamp of Manley. Mr. and Mrs. John Saathoff have moved their trailer from Millard and are living now at the Heebner Trailer court. Mrs. Kenneth Dokter and Mrs. James Kivett held a mis cellenous shower in honor of Miss Ruth Ann Hermann with twelve guests present. The guests played games and brought their favorite receipes for Miss Hermann. Miss Her mann will be married August 17. Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Betts held open house, August 2 to cele brate their 25th wedding anni versary. A large group of friends and relatives atended. The Betts' home was beautifully decorated with asters and gladioli. Tues day evening another happy event was held at the Betts home when several friends and relatives gathered to celebrate the birthday of Mrs. Betts. They were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Betts and son, Mrs. Walter Luh ring, Mr. and Mrs. George Mil ler and boys, Mr. and Mrs. Har old Wade and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Stone of Wame go, Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. War ren McCallen and boys and Mrs. Lola Cappell of Nebraska City. Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Reckard of Lookout Mountain, Tenn., visited Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Day. The Sunny Hill Aid Society met at the home of Mrs. S. R. Seaver for their August meet ing. Ten guests were present including Mrs. Chet Morgan of California, a sister of Mrs. Seav er. Mrs. Morgan was a former member of the Society while living in the Sunny Hill neigh borhood many years ago. The afternoon was spent in working at quilt blocks and visiting. The September meeting will be held with Mrs. G. M. Borjeson. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ham mons and children of Farragut, Iowa attended the wedding of Lois Patton and Gerald Terry Sunday afternoon at the Christ ian church. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Patton and Cindy of Lincoln were Sun day guests of Mrs. Mary Nannen. The Senior Circle of the CWF met Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Leo Christensen with Mrs. Alton Sterling as co-ho.-tess. Mrs. Mabel Brecken ridge opened the meeting as the chairman was absent. Group singing was enjoyed with Mrs. Christensen at the piano. Mrs. Henry Knaup acted as secretary and treasurer. Eight members were present. Mrs. J. E. Renner led the de votions and used as her topic, "Seven Lakes and a Swamp," followed by prayer. The group voted to make hospital gowns for the Albert Schweitzer hos pital in Haiti for their service project. Mrs. Marion Spangler gave an interesting missionary lesson on Jamaica." Mrs. Char les Freeman and Mrs. Christ ensen took part in a dialogue and presented the history of the Christian church in Jamaica, and the work of the mission aires. The meeting closed with prayer. The general meeting of the CWF will be held in the church pralors August 21. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Mayfield and two boys acompanied Mr. Louisville to Omaha Sunday where they were dinner guests of Mrs. Ace Scott. Mrs. Edith Braun entertained Mrs. Mabelle Elliott and mother, Mrs. Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Dimmitt, Grace Linch of Lin coln and George Frohlich at din ner Sunday. Mr. ana Mrs. Earl Fairchild and Ross attended the wedding of their grandson Noble Fischer to Jackie Wiles at Greenwood; last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Sherrill Fifer' and family of Longmont, Colo., are visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Vickers and Mrs. Anna Fifer at Eagle, other rela tives and friends. They arrived Saturday morning. Dr. and Mrs. William N. Fa well and familv of Costa Mesa, Calif., arrived Aug. 7 for a 12 day visit with his father. Mr. and Mrs. Wnv Fawell and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Zim mer in Lincoln The WSCS met Wednesday af ternoon at the church basement. Mrs. Walter Vincent gave the lesson "My Life in the March of Missions". Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Stromer, were called to Wauneta last week. Howard Brown, a brother of Mrs. Stromer passed away and they attended the funeral services. The barn on the place formerly occupied by the Don McKinnons was set afire by lightning Wed nesday evening. We had a se-' vere electrical storm accompan ied by hall, wind, more than two inches of rain in this vi cinity. 4-H Orioles met Aug. 9 at the home of Steve Edwards. A demonstration was given by A aron Howe, "Feeding a Beef Calf." A discussion on prepar ing beef and dairy calves for showing at the fair followed. The next meeting will be with Arlan Nebens. Lunch was served by Mrs. Edwards. Boy Scout Troop 242 sold 61 doxen ears of sweet corn this week. Wesley Cook purchased a bull dozer tractor. He fell or slip ped from the machine this week and fractured his left arm. Bar ry Schuelke is assisting with the work on the farm. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Earl Elliott and familv drove to Malcolm Sunday to he home of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Heidtdrink. Jim has been there since the twenty third of June, he returned home with the familv.
