MURRAY NEWS Mrs. Frank Fitzpatrick Phone 221 1 Mr. and Mrs. John Bates of Rising City, Nebraska have been visiting Mrs. Bates sister, Mrs. Margaret Brendel for the past week. Mr. and Mrs. James Boardman and family drove to Hartlngton, Nebraska to visit Mr. and Mrs: Arch Boardman on Sunday. The following group enjoyed dinner on Saturday at the R. A. Noell home. Mr. and Mrs. David Read, Mrs. Neva Read, Eileen and Ruthie, and Mr. and Mrs. Dob Farrle and Dotty. Sunday was the Southeast Ne braska Annual Angus Picnic at Waubonsie State Park, Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Todd and family and Mr. and Mrs. Jark Todd and family attended and took with them as their guests, Sherrie McKulsky, Vicky and Connie Fitzpatrack, Jim Shown and Janice f'leshman. Read's Honored at Misc. Shower A group of the Christian Church women gave a Misc. Shower for Mr. and Mrs. David Read in the Church basement on Tuesday evening. Some 50 persons attended. The following program was put on: Solo by Louis Sack, Song by Marcia Gruber, Accordion No. by Mrs. Mildred Chriswlsser, Solo by Nancy Lancaster, Solo by Merle Rogers, Hercumer by group of girls. Verle Smith showed pic tures slides that were taken at the Read's weddinir. Eileen and Ruthie moved to Nebraska City on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Farris and Dotty moved into Mrs. Reads home. Mr. and Mrs. John Farris of Omaha moved into the house formerly occup ied by Mr. and Mrs. Farris. The Dan Hosehar's moved over the weekend and Mr. and Mrs. Allen Gilbert bought and moved into the Dan Hochar home. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Lancas ter and Mrs. Marion Worthan kft on Monday for Seattle, Wash., and points west. They plan to visit Mr. and Mrs. Bill Worthan and girls in Seattle. Jimmy Gruber visaed with Al len Worthan on Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Noell and Gene visited with Mr. and Mrs. Neil Munkres on Thursday even ing. On Tuesday evening some friends and neighbors dropped in on Mr. and Mrs. Gene Gru ber and family and surprised them on their 15th Wedding An niversary. Mr. and Mrs. John Dodge and Johnny of Indianapolis, Ind., visited with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Earl Jenkins last week. On Thursday Mrs. R. A. Noell and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lancaster spent the day in Omaha. Marcis Gruber spent the day with Kathy Rice Thursday while her mother was in Omaha. Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fitzpatrick and fam ily were Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Evans of Clarinda, Callers in the Fitzpatrick home on Sunday afternoon were Mr. and Mrs. Ehil Rihn of Plattsmouth. Harold Puis entered the Me thodist hospital on Sunday for observation and treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Sporer spent the weekend at Central City visiting cousins and helping an aunt, Mrs. George Sporer celebrate her 90th birthday on Sunday. Pictures were taken of 5 generations which was quite a honor. Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Will Rice were Mr. and Mrs. Jens Christiansen of Oma ha, Lester Dill and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rice, Paul and Kathy. Rev. Joe Barr and Rev. Ho ward Hutchman attended the Presbytery at North Bend on Tuesday. Dickie and David Cottingham were over night guests of Mr. Used Cars Motors Plymouth IDBUGS) nnd Mrs. Kenneth mttin?ham and Douglas at Ralston. They all attended the Family Show at Ak-Sar-Ben. The United Presbyterian Church School picnic was held at the Murray Park on Saturday night. The weather was very good and so was the attendance. Lowell Rieke was a guest at the R. A. Noell home on Sunday. Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Jenkins were Mrs. Eli vena Kearns and Gene of Lyons, Nebraska. Callers on Surday evening in the Harold Ricf nome were Mr. ind Mrs. Verl Smith and Robert. Shrader Rhoden was in the Methodist Hospital over last weekend for observation and was able to come home on Mon day. He expects to return and be operated on some time next week. Mr. and Mrs. Loyle Van Horn are visiting her sister and fam ily, Mrs. Harold Rice. 4 II NEWS The Curvy Stitcher Club met at the home of Karen Hostetter on July 30 at 2:00. Leader, June Hostetter and Ass't. leaders, Betty Campbell and Dorothy Spitt were present. The meeting was called to or der by president, Wanda Hostet ter. Roll call was called by Donna Campbell. Our lesson was on what kind of material to use for a Bulletin Board. Next meeting will be held at Sandra Cottingham's home on August 7. Mrs. Nancy Sutton, home Ex tension Advisor visited with us at this, meeting. Refreshments were served by the hostess. Mrs. Ray Bower visited at the Ronald Grebe home in Lincoln Monday. Harold Ballinger Of Chapman In Auto Accident Mr. and Mrs. Henry Adklns and daughter Connie Rae accom panied by Mrs. Nellie Moore drove to Chapman Sunday where they were guests of the Harold Ballinger family. They learned Mr. Ballinger had been a victim of an accid ent early Thursday morning when returning home from his work. He was struck by a hit and run driver at 4 a.m. Thurs day, his car being a total loss but fortunately he was not in jured. The hit and run driver was later found. Returning to Plattsmouth with the Adkins family for a week's stay was Pamela Ballinger. Police Court Notes For First Of Week Judge James H. Graves had a number of cases pending this morning to receive his attention. John T. Skinner was charged with intoxication and received a fine of $10 and coosts of $4. Robert A. Barrier and Ray mond G. Bunning of Omaha were each charged with posses sion of alcoholic liquor by minors and each received fines of $25 and costs or a total of $29 for both offenders. William R. Heck, charged with speeding, received a fine of $10 and costs or $14. Mrs. Edith Haley, charged with reckless driving received a fine of $20 and costs or a total of $24. 2 Fined $25 Here For Intoxication A 17 - year - old Plattsmouth girl and Leslie D. Treachennr. 25, of Offutt Air Force Base en tered pleas of guilty to intox- Icafion Saturday in County j Court here. Judge Raymond J. Case as i sessed fines of $25 and costs a i gainst each defendant. The pair were arrested at 4 a. m. Sat urday by Sheriff Tom Solomon. Don re ceived his discharge on Friday at Offutt Field. He expects to go into business in the Calif ornia city with a brother. Leo Paben, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Paben, is here to enjoy a leave from his service in the navy. He has completed two years at the Norfolk (Va) base, and on his return to Nor folk is expecting to be assisgned for sea duty. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Knorr left today to spend some time at their summer cottage on Sandas Beach, Henning, Minn. Jerome Shellenbarger arrived home the 26th to spend two weeks with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clair Shellenbarger, other relatives and friends. Jerome is employed at Alexandria, Va. Mrs. Ella Womack departed Wednesday for Richmond, Calif., to visit with her daughter, Mrs. Eugene Narvaez, Mr. Narvaez and their three sons. Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred C. Arnold were their daughter, and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Newton of Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Newton and Jeanine of Platts mouth and Jim Rhea of Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. Leighton Ball inger and daughter Linda drove their niece and cousin, Shiela Ballinger, to her home in Mal vern, Iowa, Sunday. Sheila had been visiting here in the Ball inger home. Mr. and Mrs. Forest Todd and San Jose, Calif., are here visit ing for two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Petereit met the Todd family in Omaha at the train depot. Mr. Todd is employed on the west coast with the Food Machinery and Chemical Corp. Alan Wiles enjoyed his two weeks vacation on a motor trip to Ohio, accompanied by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Wiles and Marjorie Gross nans. They were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Trilety, Cincin nati, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bal ger, Middleton, and Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Trilety and family of Milford. The party reported rain damage to crops in Ohio, Indiana. Illinois and Missouri is much worse than here in east ern Nebraska. Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Wiles vis ited at Fairfax, Mo., Thursday at the home of Mrs. Grace Finch, a sister of Mr. Wiles, returning home late that evening. Friends of Mrs. Finch will be pleased to know she is enjoying good health at the age of 85. Mrs. George Kalasek who has been a patient at the St. Cat herine's hospital in Omaha was brought home Saturday by Mr. Kalasek. Mr. and Mrs. Jon Schuetz, ac companied by Bob Sedlak, went to California. The Schuetz coup le are vacationing while Mr. Sedlak is returning to his home in Burbank, after a visit here with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sedlak. Patty Holliway and cousins, Delaine and Sandy Sahs, of Bel levue left Sunday for Langdon Mo., to spend a week with Mr. and Mrs. Lon Pierce. They will return Saturday. District No. 6 VFW Meeting Set For August 7 Commander Fred Spethman, of the 6th district of V F W is announcing the fact that the sixth district of which Platts mouth post is a member, will hold its summer meeting at the Papillion club, Crestview lodge. The meeting will be on Sunday, August 17th at 1 p.m. The meet ing will be short and allow all that wish the opportunity of enjoying the pool. A dinner and dance will wind up the day of enjoyment. Visit Hot Rod Races Sunday At Des Moines Sunday a group of Platts mouth young men interested in the sport of hot rod racing, were at Des Moines to attend the races being held at Grimes, a suburb of Des Moines. Carroll Schmidt and William Allegeier had entered cars but were not in the winners of the events. Others who made the trip to the Iowa City were Larry Fauquet, Joe Grauf, Alan Wiles, John McBride, Bob Hutton and Duane Whelan. Ed Egenberger who Is employ ed in North Dakota spent the weekend here with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Egenber ger, and his many friend. here. Mr. and Mrs. Les Hutchinson and family drove to Columbus Sunday taking their son Roger, Sharon Lambert, and Carol Sch reiner to Camp Sheldon Church Camp for one week. Mr. and Mrs. Schreiner plan driving to Columbus Sunday to return the Methodist Youth. Dr. and Mrs. R. R. Anderson of Nehawka called at the Henry Thiele home Sunday. LOUISVILLE Mr. and Mrs. Edward Grell and Terry and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Beck and Johnny spent Saturday evening in Plattsmouth shop ping. Larry Grell spent the eve ning at the George Grell home near Springfield. Mrs Gail Worth"of Colorado and Mrs. Dorothy Philpot of California arrived Tuesday and are visiting for a few days with relatives and friends. They are returning to Blackhawk, Color ado to visit with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Addyman. An other sister, Mary Ann came back with Dorothy and stayed to visit with her parents while Mrs. Worth and Mrs. Philpot came to Nebraska to visit. The Rev. Lyle R. Mueller, chaplain of the Army Reserve Unit in Omaha, left with his men Wednesday for Tooele Or dnance Deport Tooele, Utah to spend three weeks in summer training. Misses Lois Ann Hauschild of Lincoln and Donna Mae Haus child of Malmo, Nebraska were weekend guests at the Irvin Hauschild home in Manley. Gary Petereit, who has been spending a two weeks furlough with his family in Springfield and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Petereit, returned to Fort Carbon, Colorado Wednesday. Several dinners and picnics were held in his honor while he was home. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Druery and sons were callers Friday even ing at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Akromis in Omaha. Mrs. Jennie Woolhiser of Co uncil Bluffs, Iowa was a guest last week at the Joe Woolhiser home. Weekend guests were Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Suess and family of Kansas City, Missouri, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wilson and daugh ter, Juanita of Lincoln. They all attended the funeral of Mrs. Woolhisers brother, C. C. Squires in Omaha on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. John Santee, Jr., and John Carl and Peggy of East Omaha spent from Thurs day through Saturday at the Ralph Wildrick home. Mrs. Irus Gerdes and child ren and Mrs. Joe Habel, Jeanine, Judith and Jeffrey spent Fri day in Plattsmouth visiting at the Earl Payton home. Kathryn Gerdes remained for a few days visit with her grandmother. Mrs. Velma Youngquist and Mrs. George Griffin and daugh ters spent Thursday in Omaha. Sunday evening guests at the Benton Hutchinson home were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Crawford. Mi?s Mary Biggs spent the past week in Wymore with her grand mother, Mrs. Frank Vonasek. She returned home Tuesday. Mrs. Fred Hopp, who entered the Methodist Hospital and un derwent surgery last week, is reported to be much improved. Guest Wednesday at the Ric hard Berner home was Mrs. Al ma Berner of Weeping Water. Sunday evening guest? at the Henry Oestmann home were Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Oestmann and family of Johnson. Kathy Oest mann remained for a longer visit with her grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wildrick were in Elmwood Sunday viiit ink with Mr. and Mrs. Mose Barr and Mrs. Belle Higgins, at the Ebeler Rest Home. They are all feeling fine. Mrs. Marion Sutton and child ren of Avoca were Wednesday guests at the Clarence Sjogren and Zelma Sutton homes. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Thornton and Mrs. Lyle Beck were shop ping in Omaha Tuesday and in the afternoon called on Mrs. Arnold Vogler and Mrs. Fred Hopp at the Methodist Hospital. Dinner guests Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Heim were Mr. and Mrs. Ru.sscl Dietze of Omaha. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Puis and sons of Manley and Frank Rois ter of Murdock visited Sunday evening with Mrs. Arnold Voc ler at the Methodist Hospital. Mrs. Vogler returned home Thursday from the hospital Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Meisiiifer attended the wedding of their granduughter, Miss Peggy Adam son of Omaha, and Mr. Vern L. Iverson, Sunday. The couple was married at the St. Paul Me thodist Church, Omaha. Mr. and Mrs. Keener Price and sons, Keener and Ken, accom panied by Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Smock, returned home Sunday evening from a weeks vacation. The families were at Shady Grove Resort in Minnesota, owned and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Gus Weiss, former Platts mouth residents. Kenneth L. Srhroeder return ed to Colorado Springs by train after visiting his grandfather, George M. Barr, who is ill at his home. While here he also visited his mother, Mrs. Dean Bogenreif and sister, Mrs. Wil liam P. Coakley. Art Weiss entered the St. Catherine's Hospital. Omaha, Wednesday and is scheduled for surgery this week. He is in room 313. F. C. Members of the Springfield Rainbow Assembly and their families enjoyed a picnic Mon day evening followed by a wa termelon feed alter swimming for a while at Linoma Beach. Those from Louisville attend ing were: Mr. and Mrs. Tony Johnson, Mrs. Francis Biggs, Mrs. Wilbur Hubbell, Mrs. Paul Doty and Mrs. Irvin Albert. Girls attending were Kay Albert, Jeanean Hubbell, Anita Little, Nancy Johnson, Sandra Doty and Dorothy Christianson. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wildrick were in Omaha Saturday and while there called on Mrs. Mary Tigner. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Brown and Mrs. Larry Stones were guests Sunday at the Art Robin son home in Ashland. Aug. 4, l')f8 Andrew O. Moore Honored For 50 Years With "Q" Andrew O. Moore, agent for the Burlington railroad at Ash land, is completing fifty years service with the Burlington railroad August 4th. A letter of commendation from H. C. Murphy, Burlington president and the railroad's fifty year pin will be presented to Mr. Moore on August 4th at Ashland. "Andy" Moore Is well known to Plattsmouth residents, as for many years he served as tele graph operator for the railroad at the local station until his re moval to Ashland some twenty years ago. While a resident here, Mr. Moore was very active in the community life. Starting his career with the Burlington at Lincoln in 1008, he has spent the greater part of his career in service at Plattsmouth, Omaha and Ashland. Ralph Younker Top Trap Shooter Sunday The Plattsmouth Jaycees held a trapshoot Sunday north of the city. This was the Jaycees' first trap shoot and despite the heat there was a' good attendance.
