NEBRASKA, SEMI-WEEKLY JOURNAL Thursday, JulJ 10, 1958 Section B PAGE THREE Highway Toll Mounts Nebraska's death toll on the highway continues to mount, and it is not restricted to hu man lives. Several days back, Gordon Lundin of Allen wrote to the Game Commission, saying that he had "found hen pheasant 305019 shortly after it was hit on a side road about two miles north of Wakefield." Even more tragi cw as hsire p rtohhttate tragic was his report that the lien's death orphaned a brood of 14 pheasants. One chick had been killed. It was doubtful that the chicks can survive on their own. There is no way of knowing the exact amount of wildlife crushed by autos and trucks, but it is a staggering total, and guests Sunday evening of Mr. and Mrs. John Groesser and son. Mrs. Altyn Sterling was sur prised last Saturday morning when she received a call from her son, Joe, from Guam.
