Union American Legion Auxiliary Regular Meeting The American Lesion Auxil iary of Union met Tuesday in the Legion Hall at Union. Mrs. Mary Appleiiate was a sjuest. Letters of thank you were read ' from Mrs. Ernia Speekhals, Mrs. Vesta Overton, Mrs. Vickers and Oenie for gifts received at Mary Ate-; McGlasson ; the lunch- eon. The following luncheon reports were given: Kitchen, Mrs. Ted Uranium; tickets and program. Mrs. Rob ert Kendall: Bazaar, Mrs. Harry Gobelman,; Dining Room. Mrs. Robert Harrah. Jr., and prizes, Mrs. Rov Mullis. Mrs. Robert Harrah gave a Poppy Day report. Nine mem bers helped with the sales. 363 poppies were sold. $62, 25 was taken in at the sale. She also re ported on the Poppy Poster contest saying 37 posters were entered in the contest. It was announced the State convention will be at North Pla- tte. July 18-20. Cass Countv meeting will be at Union, May 23. Committees for this meeting are: Kitchen. Mrs. Robert Harrah. Sr., and Mrs. Fred Baker. Registration tags, Mrs. Robert Harrah, Jr. The Unit will .serve the Union Alumni banquet May 31. ' It was voted to give a gift to a Veteran's orphan who is grad uating from high school. Mrs. Donald Meredith gave a Gold Star report. The Gold Star members were honored with a remembrance. The unit voted to give $2.50 to the Gold Star Fund. Hostesses were Ms. Robert Harrah, Jr., Mrs. Helen Gar field, Mrs. John Ervin and Mrs. Gwen Scoles. Former Resident Visit In Vicinity Col. and Mrs. Phil Rouse, Tor rington, Wyo., have been visit ing friends in this section of the state, enroute from their home to Humboldt, Neb., to at tend a reunion of the Glasgow family of which Mrs. Rouse is a member. Many of the oldor residents will be interested, as Col. Rouse is a son of Dr. E. L. Ron.se, superintendent of the Platts mouth schools in 1906-7 and the family resided here for several years. Later Dr. Rouse was presi dent of the Peru state college and the Chadron State college. i-ll Susies Meet The 4-H Susies met May 11 at the home of junior leader Diane Wiles. The club discussed plans for a style show to mo del aprons and some of the members had aprons at the meeting. The club had refresh ments and sang songs. In the Chapel of the Wedding Bells of Bellflower, Calif., May 3, occurred the wedding of Miss Anita Louise Monchen, Long Beach and Robert F. Dietl, Whit tier, Calif., former Plattsmouth resident. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Monchen and the bridegroom the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dietl of Platts mouth. Twelve Attend Garden Club Meet Members of the Plattsmouth Federated Garden Club were gu ests of Mrs. Christy Hickey and Mrs. Hermia Svoboda Monday afternoon. Twelve members answered roll call concerning garden pests problems and controls. The meeting was called to order by reciting the Lord's Pra yer, followed by the flag salute and the club's poem read in uni son. Mrs. Nellie Spangler recorded the minutes in the absence of the regular secretary. Mrs. Spangler also gave an interesting report of the Spring Convention held in Omaha. Mrs. Keller gave a report having at tended one session of the Flow er Arrangement School held in Omaha Mav 15. Mrs. Ed Berlett read a letter from Mrs. Leon High, the state president of Federated Garden Clubs, in which Mrs. High urg ed every member to write to the University Regent asking to give consideration to the need for greenhouse facilities at the North; Platte Experiment Station. She! stated these facilities would j greatly assist in the rose breed-j ing program of the Hybrid Tea i and Floribunda Roses. She said ! to address the letters to Dean j Lambert, Agricultural College, j Lincoln, Nebr. j Mrs. Clarence Akeson talked j about the wild flowers of Ne-i braska, astonishing the group ! with telling there were more than one thousand species of ; wild flowers in this state. The bride, given in marrage by her father, appeared in a Renaisance gown of floating silk Peau-de-Soi enriched with all over chantilly lace. The mod ified sabrina neckline was stud ded with seed pearls and irrede scent sequins. She carried white roses appointed with an orchid and stephanotis. Bridal attendants wore blue dresses of lace and taffeta and carried pink roses and stephan otis cascade bouquets. Mr. Dietl's best man was Gary Holmes. A reception was held in the tropical patio of the chapel and later at the home of the bride's parents. " St. Paul Ladies Have Circle Meets Circles one and two of the St. Paul's Evangelical and Reform ed Church met Tuesday even ing in the church parlors. De votions were given by Mrs. Frank Bierl and Mrs. John Parken ing, afterwhich each circle held separate business meetings. Thirteen members and three visitors were present at Circle One. The door prize went to Mrs. Ehlon McLsinger. Nineteen members and one viator were present at Circle Two. Door prize went to Mrs. Otto Pitz. After the business meetings the evening was spent socially and playing games and refresh ments were served by the host esses, Mrs. Bierl, Mrs. J. E. Mei singer, Mrs. Rilla Gapen, Miss Ethel Stoehr Mrs. Ray Hild, Mrs. Howard Lindquist and Mrs. John Parkening. Circle Three met for a 1:30 luncheon with 17 members and two visitors present. May 18 honor ing Kirs. Rachel St rough on her 81st birthday. Mrs. St rough is the mother of Mrs. Akeson and Frank Strough of this city. Forty relatives were present to enjoy the basket dinner at noon, all being children and gr andchildren of Mrs. Strough. One son. Kd, and family, who live in Boise, Idaho, were unable to attend. The afternoon was spent visit ing and taking pictures, there being five generations in the family. Mrs. strougn received many cards and gifts. Special guests for the evening were Mrs. Johanna Whlted, newly installed Associate Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter, Mrs. Wilma Harms, Grand Sec retary, guests from Glenwood Chapter No. 412, Glenwood, la., and several guests from Alpha Chapter No. 325, Bellevue. A large crowd was present to wit ness the impressive ceremony. Mrs. Lunctta Hutchinson, Worthy Matron and Maynard Rimige, Acting Worthy Patron presided over the meeting, and welcomed the guests. Following the meeting, re freshments were served in the dining room from a beautifully decorated table, using spring flowers and maypoles .
