May 23; Rebekah Lodge, May 27. The Oarilon Club met in reg ular session at the home of Mrs. Finning- Robb, with 11 members present. Mis. Herman Hornem eier gave an article on the cure of iris and named sump rare varieties. Mrs. C. J Fleishman gave an article on tulips and their care. The club would like to visit the Sehliefert Gardens nenr Louis ville. Before leaving, the ladies toured the beautiful gardens and bird santuary of the Robb's. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bornemeier of Denver were here visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Mil ler and his mother, Mrs. John Bornemeier of Murdock and other relatives. Spending Mother's Day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Kuh lenengel of Avora were Mrs. Minnie Rosenkoetter, Mrs Ous sie Jocken.s, Mr. and Mrs. Wal ter Oehlerking and Mr. and Mrs. Junior Oehlerking. Elmwood friends of Mrs. Kath erine Allen of Omaha who re ceived word from her about her appearance of TV were able to see her using her file cabinet. It was to celebrate her 50th year of her business the clipping Bureau (Universal Press) which she started herself. As an Elm wood pirl, she helped in the of fice of the Elmwood Leader -Echo, getting her first exper ience. She is the former Kit Worley. This community was shocked to hear that the country home of Mr. and Mrs. Arlo Pratt was burning. It started in the kit chen where Mrs. Pratt was cook ing, spilling a little fat on her electric stove, which burned and spread rapidly through thj whole house. The walls and roof are still standing but probably are worthless. Very little of the contents of the home was sav ed, so a shower of things for their home was set Friday, May 23 at 8 p.m. at the Communiiy building A box will be placed for those preferring to give cash. Mrs. Earl Horton was Invited to represent the Libraries of Cass County at the Reading Con ference held in Lincoln May 14 and 15. Meetings were held at the Love Memorial Library Bldg. and at the Student Union. Lib rarians and Reading chairmen from exetnsion clubs all over the state attended. Mrs. Clara Ruhga of Lincoln came to attend the school pic nic Friday as a guest of her daughter and family, the Arley Hills. Mrs. Hills nephew, John Stutzman of Lincoln and niece Stephanie Pederson of Weeping Water also attended the picnic. The Kunz family reunion will be held as usual in the E.U.B. church basement Memorial Day. All relatives of the John Michael Kunz and Christina Kunz bran ch are invited to attend this basket dinner. Mrs. Joe Kunz is president. Walter Fleishman and family and the Lloyd Vogt family drove to Fairbury Sunday to visit the Guilford family, formerly of Elmwood. The American Legion Auxil iary met in regular session at the American Legion Hall, May 1. Emily Gonzales thanked all for their help and cooperation with the " Poppy Day" sale of poppies and the dinner. New dishes and silverware have been purchased. The layette is to be sent to the Veteran's Hospital. Mary Phillips is in charge of flowers on Decoration Day in memory of deceased veterans. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Oehler king and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Han son journeyed to Orange City, Iowa, Saturday forenoon, re turning Sunday. They took in the tulip festival and attended the operetta that evening. They enjoyed it very much. The Arley HU1 family visited Sunday, Mrs. Anna Mohr of Syracuse. Mr. and Mrs Harry Jacobson and Rosann were after noon callers, The Arley Hill's also visited Mr and Mrs. Wm, Kruse. Till We Meet Again Club met with Mis. Harry Duckworth Thursday afternoon. They visit ed and planned their picnic which will be in June. Mrs. Duck worth served a delicious lunch. Mr. and Mrs. Arley Hill and children picnicked with the Wayne Pederson family ol Weeping Water Sunday. The lad ies are sisters. Jim Jicka of Elmwood and and Art Ortleib of Wabash left Monday for Omaha where they will enter the services. Jim is joining the army and Art, the Marines. Jim goes to Ft. Carson, Colo. Art will go to San Diego, Cal. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Davidson of Lincoln visited Mr. and Mrs. i J. Clark Gonzales Sunday after noon and evening. Mr. Davidson is Mrs. Gonzales' brother. Rev. and Mrs. F. C. Ebinger drove to Omaha to spend Moth er's Day with their daughter and family, the Willis Farring tons, who were having the mea sles and could not come here. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Miller drove to South Bend Sunday afternoon to call on her mother, Mrs. Wm. Lefler also Harry Lef ler and the Russell Miller fam ily. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Sneider and family of Decatorr, 111., are moving to Fargo N. D. Sneider has been promoted to field manager for an insurance Com pany. Mrs. Sneider is the for mer Delores Ebeler. Gary Groves, Mrs. Ruth Ab rams and Sharon left Friday night, driving to Los Angeles, Cal. Mrs. Abrams and Sharon will visit Ronnie. Gary hopes to find work there. Iva Kay Irons was honored at a miscellanious shower at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Groves. Hostesses were Wanda Groves, Sandra Drake, Sharon Shelly, Betty Drake and Beverly Wilhelm. A gathering of friends and relatives at the Harold Kreck low home following the Com mencement Exercises Thursday night honored Dale Krecklow, a member of the senior class and David Krecklow, a member of the 8th grade. The WSCS of the Evangelical United Brethern Church of Elm wood met at th church May 14. j The business meeting was conducted by the president, Mrs. Dale Fleischman. The General Activities Chairman, Mrs. Ray Vogt, announced that a recep tion would be held for new church members on Sunday evening, May 25. Mrs. Gussie Jachens reported that 124 pounds of clothing had been given to be used by the needy in Korea. Mrs. Joe Kunz, chairman of the Finance Committee, report ed that we had attained goal nine in the goals for growth by having had an increase in giving during the past year. The secretary of Missonary Education, Mrs. Minnie Rosen koetter, was happy to report that 90 Bible Books and 94 other missionary books had been read by members of the society dur ing the past year. Hostesses were Mrs. Elda Lenz and Mrs. F. C. Ebinger. GLENDALE Mrs. Tom Tennant Phone 4251 Wm. Wendt passed away at the Ashland Nursing home Friday May 19 at 90. Funeral was at the Immanuel Church Monday afternoon with burial at Luther an cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Franke and Mary accompanied Rose Franke to attend open house in Omaha at the insurance comp any where Miss Franke is employed. Mrs. Elmer Brandt of Lincoln spent Wednesday at the Jim In gram home. Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Wilson and family, John Cordes, all of Oma ha, and Mr. and Mrs. Orville Cordes and daughters were din ner guests at the Fred Cordes Sunday and they celebrated Ran dy Wilson's birthday. Mrs. Ervin Albert , Mrs. Harry Ahl, Mrs. Fred Huff and Mrs. Callaway of Springfield attend ed the Grand Chapter of the Or der of Eastern Star In Lincoln Wednesday and on Thursday eve ning, Mrs. Irvin Inman joined them as they went back for the installation of Mrs. Worthman as associate grand conductress. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Meising er of Weening Water called at the George and Elmer Stoehr home Sunday afternoon among other callers. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Derby's home was the scene of a family gathering. Present were Mr. and Mrs. James Derby and son of Plattsmouth. Mr. and Mrs. Beau ford Clinkenbeard and family. Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Derby and family, Mr. and Mrs. Don ald Derby visited their grand mother, Mrs. Roy Derby who ar rived Sunday from California. Glendale school held their pic nic Sunday at the school. Be side the local folks there were many there who attended Glen dale . Among those were Mr. and Mrs. Zimerman of Lincoln. George Stoehr was taken to the Methodist Hospital Friday afternoon and underwent sur gery about 8 o'clock that eve ning. He is doing as well as expected at this time. Victor and Elmer visit him almost daily. Mrs. Roy Derby arrived from ' California Sunday morning for a 2 week visit with her sons, Arthur and Oren and their fam ilies. Mrs. Derbv has made her home in California several years. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Wagoner drove to Wahoo Monday to visit at the Carl Hengen home and visited Mrs. Wagoners cousin from Tuscon, Ariz., who was visiting there.
