She has been ill for the past two weeks and had under gone surgery. Her sons, Vernon and Clyde have been with her during her last illness. Laura Pittman was born Nov ember 10, 1878 at Corydon, Ind., daughter of Thomas S. and Sara M. Smoots Pittman. The family later moved to the vicinity of Avoca where the deceased grew up and has made her home there and at Nehawka. She was a member of the Chris tian Church taking a very great interest in the church activities. She was married to Clarence W. Fleshman who has preceded her in death in July 1932 at Om aha. Survivors are the following chil dren: Vernon S. Fleshman, Og allala, Nebr.; Clyde W. Flesh man, Eugene, Ore., Mrs. Leora E. Switzer, Nehawka; two bro thers, Ward Pittman, Oakland, Calif., Marion Pittman, Avoca, and one sister, Hattie Chapman, Oakland, Calif. Funeral services will be held on Saturday. at 2 p. m. at the Methodist Church at Nehawka, Rev. C. S. Weideman, pastor of ficiating. Burial will be at the Mt. Plea sant cemetery near Nehawka. The Porter-Lett mortuary of Ne braska City in charge. Funeral Of William D. Day Held Wednesday Wednesday afternoon at 2 o clock last rites were held at the chapel of the Caldwell Linder funeral home for William D. Day, who had passed away, May 4th. Mr. Day has been a familiar figure here for the past twenty years had made many friends in his daily walk of life, who have shared with the family the refxet that his untimely .death had brought. The service at the chapel was conducted by Rev. J. W. Taen zler, pastor of the First Chris tian Church, who brought a mes sage of comfort to the family and friends in his expression at the rites. Mrs. Lloyd Frady was the so loist for the service and the ac companiment was by Mrs. Carl Dtfncan at the organ. Burial was at the Mt. Plea sant cemetery, north of Nehaw ka with Chris Bulin. Howard Kennell, Richard Rhoades, Geo rge Winscot, Roy Wood and Al bert Young, serving as casket bearers. Funeral Of Alfred Anderson, Crcenwood Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Christian Church at Greenwood for Alfred Anderson, 76, long time resident of that community. Rev. B. F. Parnell officiated at the services. Survivors are wife. Louise, two step-daughters, Mrs. Vivian Cope and Mrs. Lillian Jardine. Burial was at the Waverly ce metery. Services Held Tuesday For Harold J. Peterson Funeral services for Harold J. Peterson, Sr., were held on Tues day afternoon at the chapel of the Caldwell-Linder funeral home where a large group of the old friends gathered to pay their last tributes to his memory. Rev. J. W. Taenzler, pastor of the First Christian Church conducted the service at the chapel and at the graveside. Dale Wohlfarth of Murray was the soloist for the. service and Mrs. J. L. Hodge was organist. Burial was at Oak Hill cem etery win Tom Grosshans, Char les Haecke, Charles Tasler, Ster ling Ingwersen, Shrader Rhoden and Newton Sullivan serving as casket bearers. Count v Judge No. 4011 May 8, 15. 22, 1958. Pack 399 Cubs Have Annual Circus The Cub Scouts of Pack 399 held their annual Circus at the Lions Building on Friday eve ning, April 25. A large crowd of cubs, parents and friends attend ed the affair. Each den featur ed a booth and prizes were awar ded for all games. Den 1 had a cake walk. Every one enjoyed trying to win a cake from the large variety of cakes. Den 2 had a large clown head with the throwing of bean bags into the clown's mouth to win. Cubs of Den 2 also had a 2x4 in which a nail had to be driven in all the way in 5 blows with a hammer. Den 3 was in charge of the refreshments stand. Den 4 featured a penny pitch game. Den 5 had a duck pin bowl ing game and a booth in which the knocking down of pop bot tles with a basketball was requir ed. Den 6 had a fishing pond. Den 8 featured a game of skill with balloon and dart throwing. During (the evening, Bobby Shepard, Billy Pankonin and Sterling Sand with their parents were introduced as guests. A Bobcat Induction was held with Cubmaster Russell Schalk officiating. Mr. Schalk briefed the parents on their new respon sibility to their son in his Cub Scout activities and pins were presented to: Stanley Adkrns, Freddy Buechler, John J. Cloidt, Steven Delap, Max Linder, Den ny Dasher, Gary Babbitt, Mark Gall, Gary Claus and Joel Lock wood. The following boys were pre sented awards by Awards Chair man Fred Fischer in recognit ion of achievements: Mark Al lison, assistant denner; John Bernhardt, denner; Bradley Bourne, gold arrow, silver ar row after bear; Robert Fuller, wolf badge; Dennis Russell, den ner ; Larry Ahrends, assistant denner; Billy Rishel, gold arrow after wolf; Mike Gall, 2 silver arrows after wolf, bear badge, assistant denner; Chuck Ault, denner; Calvin McDaniel, one year service star; Terry High field, gold arrow, 2 silver arrows after bear; Gary Christensen, Lion badge, Cub Scout gradu ation certificate, 3 year service star; David Nielsen, lion badge, Cub Scout graduation certificate; Steven Nielsen, wolf badge, gold arrow after wolf. Rev. H. R. Knosp Of Julian Honored For Service In Ministry Sunday at the Evangelistic Uni ted Brethren Church at Julian, Rev. H. R. Knosp, was honor ed for forty-five years service in the church in this section of Nebraska that has included service in church activities in Cass County. A fellowship dinner was en joyed at noon wilth some sixty five attending. The guest of hon or tale had a decorated yellow and white cake, shaped like an opened Bible with scripture on it. The cake was a gift from the children of Rev. Knosp. A short program supervised and announced by Mrs. Frank Anville was a piano solo by Har riette Ann Anville; a vocal solo by Dr. Glen Knosp of Elmwood, and short talks relating to Rev. Knosp's work as a pastor were given by Rev. L. E Strickler, Julian; Rev. F. C. Ebinger, Elm wood and Rev. Alvin Oehler king, Murdock. Rev. H. D. Keef er of Auburn gave the benedic tion. Members of the Knosp family present were, Mr. and Mrs. Cla rence Knosp, Lincoln; Dr. and Mrs. Glen Knosp, and family, Elmwood; Mr. and Mrs. August Wilkin and family of Murdock. Also attending were a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Aldinger of Bertrand. Rev. and Mrs. Knosp have four children unable to attend. James Burr Davis To Graduate At Naval Academy Among the members of the graduating class of the US Naval Academy at Annaplois, Md., on June 4th, is James Burr Davis of Wayne. Nebr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Burr Davis of Wayne . The young man is well known here where he has been a fre quent visitor with relatives. He is grandson of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Vallery of this city. There are 111 Junior teams and 82 of the Midgets entered. In the entries so far this season, two Cass County posts of the Legion have teams entered. We eping Water has both a Junior and Midget team ready to go, Louisville has entered a Midget team. The local teams will be in Class B. Glenwood, Bellcvuc, Red Oak Firemen Guests Of Locals Tuesday evening the Platts mouth Volunteer Fire Depart ment were host to some thirty visiting fire fighters from Glen wood, Bellevue and Red Oak, la. at a dinner and get-together. The visitors enjoyed an inspec tion of the local fire fighting equipment including the new tr uck in the late afternoon, prior to the dinner party at the city hall and firemen's club rooms. The club rooms was well iilled with some seventy-five of the fire fighters for the occasion. It was a game festival with elk and deer meat furnish ing the chief feature of the din ner. The game was provided by Winford Dasher and Fred Lugsch result of their hunting prowess in the hunting trip in the moun tains. Mrs. Winford Dasher pre pared the dinner which was en joyed to the utmost by all of the group. The remainder of the evening was spent at cards by the mem bers of the group. Al Fairfield Changes Occupation Al Fairfield began his new work with the Forney Industries in the Generator Division. Monday. He will be working the Cass County territory with his head quarters at Omaha. ' Mr. Fairfield just recently re-1 signed from the Alamito Dairy Co., Omaha after 8V2 years employ. Murdock Merry Milkers The Murdock Merry Milkers held their April meet'.ng at the home of Clinton Jones. Discus sion was on the proper diet for the dairy cow. The assis tant county agent was present and ear-tagged Jones's calves. Earlier in the evening he had tagged the calves of the other members.
