Ham for F.aster A handsome baked ham, at tractively glazed and garnish- ea, is ideal for any festive meal. With the Easter holiday coming, Mrs. Clara Leopold, extension heme management specialist at the University of Nebraska, has some tips for selecting hams. When shopping for ham. there are several tvpes to choose from. The specialist says that fully cooked hams are ready to tat, while the ones ready to slice and serve need to be heated and a glaze added. A ham labeled "tender" ' is partially cooked. Additional cooking is necessary to give it that well-done texture and full ham flavor. The amount to buv depends on the amount of bone and fat in relation to edible portion. Some hams are trimmed more than others. Easter Seal Drive for Kids Center Pends Handicapped children of com munities throughout Nebraska are depending on Easter Seal dollars to help provide for the operation of the C. Louis Meyer Memorial Therapy Center for Children now under construct ion as part of the new Child ren's Medical Center in Omaha, Dr. Dwight Frost, consulting medical director of the therapy center, said today. The Douglas County Chapter of the Nebraska Society for Crippled Children and Adults together with other county units of the Society, are substantially expanding their current 1958 Fund Drive so funds can be pro vlded for the new diagnostic and treatment center. Thous ands of volunteers all over Neb raska will take part in a door- to-door canvass March 30, call ing on homes in their area, seek ing response to the Easter Seal Campaign. The construction of the C. Lou is Meyer Memorial was made possible when Mrs.' Meyer con tinued the philanthropic policy of her late husband by donating $380,00 for the construction and equipment costs. Under the Hill Burton law, federal funds have been committed to the ex tent of 40 per cent of the total construction and equipment costs, other gifts by individuals amounting to over $150,000 have assured the completion of this $1,000,000 structure. "Easter Seal contributions have always played a major part in nelping handicapped children of the area but this year the drive reaches a new significance in assuming the re sponsibility of providing funds for the new center." Dr Frost said. "The Easter Seal Society, its officers and trustees, have been a part of formulating plans for the new Children's Medical Center which will embrace all the necessary facilities and skills to effectively aid physic ally and mentally handicapped children." Two other units of the Child ren's Medical Center are the Hattie B. Monroe Home, a nur sing and convalescent and chron ic diseases hospital for child ren, and the Dr. J P I.orri School for Special Educational Services. "The planners visualized a medical center which would be available to all children regard less of race, creed, color or ab ility to pay," Dr. Frost said. Children from surrounding states will be able to make use of the center and the center in turn to make use of the coneen tration of medical knowledge iiu equipment in this immedi ate area. These ueonle saw tvi, heart of the center as a diagnos tic and therapy center with two omer units, the Munroe Home and the Dr. Lord School, tc make the total approach pos- fiuie to tne disabled child. These three units alone represent a construction cost of about $3 million. "Easter Seal dollars spent for operation and additional equip ment will help to train doctors nurses and therapists, as well as give direct aid to the young sters themselves," Dr. Frost said. 63 per cent lean, 24 per cent fat, 10 per cent bone and 3 per cent skin. One pound with the bone in will usually make 2 or 3 serv ings, but without bone, a pound will make 3 or 1 servings. - Clar ence Schmadekc, County Agent. ocv Myi rta B.
