Count i m m y Cage M NE ble for rridcay; Plattsmouth, lacking Its big gest player, ran into a buzz saw at Beatrice Tuesday night and lost a Twin Rivers Conference basketball game, 62-39. It was a touch same and more of the same threatens here Fri day night when Lincoln North east the state's top-ranked Class AA team moves In. Northeast is bit?, experienced and atile. It has won 9 games without a loss. It owns wins over Beatrice, Westside and Lincoln IIlKh. riattsmouth's starting lineup is in doubt. The tallest Blue Devil, 6-4 J. C. Draper, missed the Beatrice game since he was out of school ill. His presence would mean a lot Friday night. At Class AA Beatrice, Bob Buet tenbach's 6 feet, 7 Inches of height was too much for Platts mouth. The senior center scored 25 points, 16 in the second half when Beatrice ran away from the Blue Devils, and he hogged the rebounds. Plattsmouth was able to handle Buettenbach in the first half by switching from a man-to-man defense, to a zone and back to a man-for-man. The third auarter, however, was fatal. Plattsmouth came back onto the floor fired ud to get in the game after a 28-13 count for Beatrice. But the home team fired in 6 of its first 7 field goal at tempts to only one basket for Plattsmouth and the rout was on. Buettenbach got 3 of those 6 baskets and added two more before the quarter ended, 49-25. The big center added 6 more points the 4th quarter while on ly Bill Long was able to hit with any consistency for Platts mouth. He got 10 points before fouling out early in the 4th. Plattsmouth actually outshot Beatrice on percentage, .400 to eat rise Wins, .349 but BuL'ttenbach's work un- der the baskets kept Beatrice in possession for 23 field goals in ti6 shots while the Blue Devils got only 30 shots at the basket, making 12. Snyder got 8 field goals in the first quarter. The win was Avoca's 4th in 5 Cass County Conference gam es and assured it of a least a tie for the conference top rung. Eagle at 3-1 can wind up 4-1, too, if it beats Alvo. In Tuesday night's reserve game, Avoca was down, 1-5, after the first quarter but won, 30-9. W. Knaka scored 13 points. In Volleyball, Avoca won, 40 9, for a 10-5 record. Avoca's Carsten Scores 36 for Season's High EAGLE Carroll Carsten, a 6-6 center, tallied a county sea son s high 36 points to lead Avo ca to a 68-56 basketball win here Friday night. Carsten hit 17 field goals and 2 out of 2 free throws. Marquardt hit 12 for Avoca and Eagle had four players in double figures, E. Vador 13, R. Reynoldson 11 and R. Johnson and L. Johnson 10 each. Avoca led 18-8 at the end of the first quarter, 31-21 at the half and 51-37 after three quar ters.. Avoca also won the reserve game, 50-30 Haveman and Stub bendick led the winners with 10 each, Ronhovde and Mack the losers with 6 each. Avoca won in volleyball 24-11. County Sheep Meeting Feb. 7 Cass County sheep producers and 4-H sheen club leaders and members were reminded today of a sheep production and man agement meeting to be held in Weeping Water, Feb. 7 at 8 p.m. Ted Doane, Extension Animal Husbandman, from the Agricul tural College, will lead the dis cussion. The meeting is sche duled in the Agricultural Audi torium. Sheep have been, are, and likely will be a good livestock enterprise for Cass County farms and there is room for a lot more farm sheep Hocks in the county, County Agent Clar ence Schmadeke says. Nehawka Beats Alvo, 45-36 ALVO Nehawka won a 45-36 basketball decision over Alvo here Friday as Snider and Jones combined for 35 points. Snider got 20 and Jones 15 on a variety of tiplns, set shots and driveins. Roelofsz led Alvo with 13. In volleyball, it was Alvo 20, Nehawka, 18. Alvo won in grade school bas ketball, 39-27. Plattsmouth staved In range much of the first half as Jim Bulin hit 6 points but the half time score favored Beatrice, 20 16. After three quarters, the home team was ahead, 51-30. Bulin's 11 led Plattsmouth as Roger Noell and Larry Marler got 6 each. Other first-round games Wed nesday night are Weeping Water vs. Alvo at 7 u. m. and Avoca vs. Eagle at 8:30. Semifinals games are Thurs day, 7 p. m .for the winners of the Tuesday's games and 8:30 for the winners of Wednesday night's games. The championship game is at 8:30 Friday. A third place game between the semifinals losers precedes at 7 o'clock. In drawing the pairings the county association designated Murdock, Louisville, Weeping Water and Eagle as "seeded" teams. Going into the tournament, Louisville and Weeping Water have the most impressive sea- j son's records.
