(ye Devils Pressed for 2-47 Ws Troubled by crowding under Its offensive basket and beset by fouls Plattsmouth High had to work hard for a 52-47 victory over previously- unbeaten Paw nee City there Friday night. The Blue Devils broke out their new double pivot with cen ters Tom Martin and J. C. Drap er. It was a tough test for the new offense, unveiled on a count so small there was little more than six feet from the foul lane to the sidelines. This jammed up the middle and kept Plattsmouth from us ing several of the guard options otherwise possible with the doub le pivot. This limited the play pretty much to the centers drlv- 91 131 ffO ing and the guards shooting from outside. Plattsmouth led comfortably early in the game but had to cling hard to a smaller lead as Pawnee City really threatened In the 4th quarter. For the second straight game forward Larry Cundall came through In the clutch. It was 41 40 with less than three minutes left and Draper on the bench with five fouls vhen Cundall came through. He drove around Pawnee Ci ty's defense for two layups and added a free throw for a five point lead for the Blue Devils with about two minutes left. Plattsmouth lost Long and and Shown, on fouls down the stretch and Al Dasher and Rog er Noell filled their spots, Dash er going to the pivot. It was really a squad victory for the Blue Devils as the bench was vital after Draper, Shown, and Cundall all drew three fouls by the halftime. Plaftsmouth led, 25-15 at the half but Pawnee City tried to repeat two previous second half victories. It pulled up 31 38 by the end of the third quarter and appeared to be on the move until Cundall and his team mates answered the challenge. It was the 4th win in six games and the 4th In a row for Platts mouth. Pawnee City has been tough for the Blue Devils the past three years. The teams could meet again soon since they're in the same bracket of the Ak-Sar-Ben tournament next week. This Friday, Plattsmouth is at Crete in the Twin Rivers Con ference. Plattsmouth coach John Ad kins looks for another tough game, although he says he can't quite understand Crete's early strength this season. The team lost all five starters of last year but Marv Drevo and the Blue Devil Reserves last year handled Crete's Reserves easily Those reserves are now the regulars and have lots of height.
