Westside meets Auburn in the only other "first-round" game, being in the opposite bracket of the 10-team meet. The Plattsmouth - Bellevue game is at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21. Westside - Auburn is at 4:30 p.m. that day. Parings were drawn Wednes day at a meeting of conference school representatives. At the meeting it was voted to seed Westside No. 1, Plattsmouth No. 2, Wahoo No. 3 and Pawnee City No. 4. Avoca Defeats Elmwood 39-36 AVOCA Avoca held off a clos ing rush by Elmwood just in time here Friday night for a 39-36 basketball victory, its fourth in eight games. The home team led by 11 points with three minutes to go before Emwood made its bid. R. Marquardt k'd the winners with 15 and C. Carsten got 11. V. Rueter was high for Elm wood with 13. Teammate L. Kir choff and L. Haveman of Avoca got eight each. Avoca led 11-9 at the quarter. It was 17-all at the half and Avoca was ahead 29-26 at the end of the third quarter. Elmwood won the second team game 28-27 with E. Sender leading with 14. J. Schutz had nine for Avoca. Elmwood won the girls volley ball 22-18. The victory was Fairbury's first of the season. Plattsmouth beat Fairbury, 46 32. Students Return To Their Studies Following Holiday With the New Year Holiday time ended for a large number of the young men and women who have been home for Christ mas and New Years. Plattsmouth Boy A World Leader Newspaper readers have read with interest the success of the International Export bank, one of the really successful United States international projects in the past years. Plattsmouth can feel proud of the fact that one of the leading figures in this organization is a former Plattsmouth man. Sam Waugh of Lincoln leader in Nebraska banking circles for years and now a national figure. Mr. Waugh, a son of the late Mr. and Ms. Samuel Waugh, was born in this city and spent his boyhood here a.t the turn of the century. He was a student at Plattsmouth High school and left here when the family loca ted at Lnicoln. The father was connected here with the First National bank for a great many years. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Swarts of Ashland and daughter Carol of Omaha who is a student at the medical college visited at the home of Mr.-and Mrs. LaVelle Swarts and family Christmas night. Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Ziemann of Daykin and her mother, Mrs. Fred Rudolph of Malcolm cal led at the Henry Umland home last Friday. Art Nelson spent Christmas day at the home of his daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Hil bert Anderson at Waverly. On Sunday he visited his daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. My rl Miller at Elmwood. His grand son, Clayton Miller, has been ill with the mumps but is re covering satisfactorily.
