There was a Christmas purty, a gift exchange and re vealing of their birthday pals. Those present were Mrs. Ralph etubbendick, Mrs. Glen Stub bendlck, Mrs. Nancy Carsten, Mrs. Roy Ruhge, Mrs. J. H. F. Ruhge, Mrs. Marlon Sutton, Mrs. Ted Wilson, Mrs. Anthony Wlrth, Mrs. Paul Linhardt. Mrs. J. W. Brendel visited her sister Miss Selma Marqua dt In Omaha Sunday and Rich ard Maseman visited the Wil bert Emshoff family. Mr. and Mrs. Silas Everett and Clyde Bogard spent Sun day at the Ralph Rathbun home near Murray. Avoca did not sponsor a tree light and decoration this year but the homes are beautifully decorated. I Mrs. Lydia Midkiff, Union, ; has been hospitalized this week j following an auto mishap at the ' Nehawka corner Monday while I accompaning Oscar her son. Death came to William Kep ler, 66, well known here, Sunday at his farm home. He had been in failing health. The Steckley Seed Co. em ployees and their families at tended a steak fry at Nebraska City Wednesday evening. The neighborhood birthday group went to welcome Mrs. Harry Marquardt to the neigh borhood Friday afternoon. On the welcoming list was Mrs. J. E. Aeschbacker, Mrs. Bryan Seegal, Mrs. John Mohr, Mrs. John Stubbendick, Mrs. Oscar Zimmerer. Mrs. Joe Behrns, Mrs. Kristine Sailing, Mrs. Hen ry Dankleff, Miss Matilde Mad sen, Mrs. Ella Wulf, Miss Kate Shoemaker, Mrs. J. W. Brend le, Mrs. Henry Maseman. Cook ies, salad and coffee was served. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Heeb ner went to Ruskin, Nebr., Mon day to attend funeral services for her aunt Mrs. Robert Nel sen and sister of Mrs. Chriss Miller, Weeping Water. Prizes at cards to Mrs. Elmer Wessel, Mrs. Elmer Hallstrom Mrs. Carl Zrlser, Mrs. John Norris, Elmer Hennings, Carl Zriser, and Will Wulf. Mr. and Mrs. John Norris were guests. Womans Fellowship of the Congregational Church held a noon covered dish dinner Thurs day. After the meal the regu lar meeting of the Fellowship was opened by Mrs. Earl Free man. Mrs. J. E. Aeschbacker led the devotional period with a Christmas thought. The com mittees for the New Year was read by Miss Bertha Neumeis ter. Afterward the meeting was turned over to the social com mittee for the Christmas party. After several games there was a gift exchange. Hostesses Mrs. Ernest Norris, Mrs. Helen Noer rlinger served desert. Jack Hallstrom, Omaha, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hall strom had major surgery at Methodist Hospital Thursday. He is recovering very well. Mrs. A. C. Hansen came home from the Syracuse hos pital Monday. The pupils of Mrs. Jerry Pointer of District 105 surprised her on her Birthday Friday the 13. It was a very lucky day though as they brought an as sortment of gifts and food. That evening her parents Mr. and Mrs. Lemoyne Spohn and Jo lene, his mother Mrs. June Poin ter, Susy and Lorrine and Du- ane Fleishman came in to wish her happy birthday. Sunday evening guests were her grand parents Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Kunz, Elmwood. Miss Anna Seegal, Lincoln, spent several hours with Mrs. Bryan Seegal and Crystal Sun day. Mrs. Alma Minderman, Lin coln visited at the John Em shoff home Sunday afternoon. August Birthday Club held a Christmas party at the home of Mrs. Earl Freeman Friday. All out one member was present. There was a guessing game gift exchange and secret pal names revealed. The hostess served a two course lunch. Santa will be here in Avoca Dec . 21 to serve Christmas goodies. Womans missionary society met at First Lutheran Church Thursday. This was a covered dish lunch at noon and having charge of this were Mrs. Otto Ludvig, Mrs. Walter Reitsch, Mrs. Edwin Nieman, Mrs. Le nard Nutzman. Mrs. Herman Minderman. Each guest brought a gift for the Lutheran home. The topic for the pro gram was "Christmas service" The devotional period was led by Mrs. Erwin Carlson, Mrs. Fred Kirkhoff, Mrs. Harvey Det tmer, entertainment was led by Mrs. Joyce Schutz, Mrs How ard Jacobson, and Mrs. May nard Riffe, of the program. A duet was sung by Mrs. Alvin Zeilinger, Mrs. Vernon Dett mer with Mrs. Leonard Nutz man at the organ. Mrs. Hans Jensen attended a company banquet in Omaha WEEPING WATER NEWS Mrs. Edward Van Horn Phone 252-W Miss Marie Stock, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harloln Stock, was the guest of honor at three showers the past weekend. Mrs. Kenneth Stratton and Mrs. Gene Burgen, Lincoln held a linen shower for Miss Stock on Sat urday afternoon at the Strat ton home with 15 attending. Miss Stock was seated in a chair decorated with streamers and an umbrella, under which she was seated. The hostesses set the alarm and each time it rang, she was permitted to open a gift. She had to answer ques tions about her romance each time she opened a gift. Several games were played. Sunday afternoon Miss Stock was the guest of honor at a canned goods shower at the home of Mrs. Lewis Baker. Sev enteen guests were present. The gifts were placed in a decorated basket. Games were played with several guests winning prizes. Each guest wrote her name in the wedding book. Out of town guests were Mrs. Virgil Miller and Mrs. Robert Bomberger of Lincoln. Sunday evening Mrs. L. E. Johnson entertained at a mis cellaneous shower with Mrs. William Newham as co-hostess. Twenty were present. Several games were played. Wedding bells were used for the decora tions. Mrs. Howard Colbert and Do rothy and Mrs. Leonard Klemme of Murdock were out-of-town guests. Miss Stock will marry Robert Miller on Saturday eve ning, Dec. 28 in the Methodist Church at Weeping Water. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Taylor and Gealdine were Saturday even ing guests of Mr. and Mrs. Har lon Stock. Sunday dinner guests were Mr. and Mrs. William Rei bold and Mr. and Mrs. Don Ta gue of Omaha. The duck dinner was in honor of the birthday of Mr. Reibold and a pre-Christ-mas dinner. Mrs. Reibold and Mrs. -Tague visited Mrs. Dora Albin at Rest Haven in the after noon while Mrs. Stock attended the shower for her daughter. They were lunch guests at the Stock home in the evening. The Better Best Extension Club held their annual Christ mas party and covered dish din ner Dec. 13 at the home of Mrs. Kenneth Dokter. Colorful and delicious food was enjoyed by the twelve members and four guests, Mrs. Lawrence Mogen sen and two boys and Miss Ruth Hermann. The meeting was opened by the singing of Christ mas carols, led by the presir dent, Mrs. Dokter. The lessons for next year were planned. It was voted to give a gift to Mrs. John Groesser for her baby son. Coffee strips were collected, a Thursday evening at the Town and Steak House. Hosts were Mr. and Mrs. Will Kreglo. J ICE! . . Mrs. Dokter had baked and decorated a cake, a candy house, and this was used as a center piece for the luncheon table. Numbers were drawn and Matt hew Mogenson was the winner of the cake. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Ethel Her mann. Members to bring their used Christmas cards for the childrens home. - Ray Norris attended the State Convention of county officials on Wednesday and Thursday in Omaha. Christmas carolers from the Methodist and Congregational churches went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Norris Sun day evening. A group of forty were given treats by Mr. and Mrs. Norris, enjoying the Christ mas scenes at the Norris home. A nativity scene and the Wise Men scene decorates the outside of the home with blue lights a round the windows. These Christmas decorations are be ing enjoyed by many people who pass by. Mrs. Joe John spent from Monday until Friday visiting at the home of her mother, Mrs. H. M. Braimerd of Uniontown, Kan. Mrs. John reports that her mother is 88 years of age and in good health. She lives alone and does her own work with the exception of the laundry. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Nichol son and Lyle of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Nicholson of Wa bash, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Mundell of Papillion were Sun day afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. Burgen. Sunday even ing a group from the Christian Church went to their home for caroling and later in the even ing about forty from the Me thodist and Congrega tional churches sang carols for them.
