"The Delicate Delinquent" Is Funniest Film "The Delicate Delinquent," opening Sunday, Monday, Tues day, Nov. 17-18-19, at the Cass threater, promises to be some thing entirely new for its star Jerry Lewis. Based on an idea Jerry has long cherished, the Paramount Vistavlsion product ion reaches the screen as what is said to be Jerry's funniest picture to date, yet one that tells a story that's sincere with real heart appeal. As the wistful, eager but bum bling assistant janitor of a run down tenement in New York's Lower East Side, Jerry has the perfect vehicle for his zany an tics. On the serious side, how ever, he yearns to be someone to be respected like the cop on the beat. Juvenile delinquents swarm the neighborhood where Jerry performs and misperforms his daily chores. Not only does Jerry have his irate tenants to contend with, but the poor soul is constantly badgered by the leather-jacket set who hold no brief for a guy who respects a cop. In the role of the cop is lik able Darren McGavin who, with pretty Martha Hyer, is co-starred with Jerry. Martha is a lady investigator on delinquency con ditions. Martha falls in love with McGavin and in his own timid way Jerry is crazy about a pert little miss played by Mary Web ster. There's music in "The Deli cate Delinquent" too, with Jerry singing a number called "By Myself" by song-smiths Arthur Schwartz and Howard Dietz Adv. Week ends find the man of the house doing those outside jobs that need to be accompished before winter comes. A number of tweed jackets, a turtle-neck sweater or two and a few battered, but comfortable felt hats are seen on the streets. Pipes seem to be a bit more in evidence than they were during the summer months. People stroll instead of stride down the street. The relaxed feeling is everywhere. After church on Sunday, the family probably will pile into the car and ramble over the back roads, ohins and ahing at that patch of purple or the other i grove of trees with its myriad j colors a little farther up the I valley.
