October 15, 1957. Board met pursuant to ad journment. Present II. L. Borne meier, H. E. Norris and W. F. Nolte, Commls-sioners and Chas. Land, County Clerk. Minutes of the last session ap proved and the following busi ness transacted In regular form. The Cass County Treasurer certified to the Board of Com missioners, that distress war rants have been Issued in the total amount of $21,601.00, cov ering delinquent personal and motor vehicle taxes for the tax years 1950 and prior and that said warrants have been deliver ed to the Sheriff of Cass Coun ty, for collection as provided by law. Special Deputy Sheriff Bonds for Shrader Khoden and War ren Fink were examined and ap proved by the Board, and a mo tion was made and seconded to accept same. Motion was made by W. F. Nolte and seconded by R. K. Norris that repairs be made at Hillcrest Nursing Home by in stallation of a gas furnace and necessary services therefore, and that the lessee be directed and authorized to make provision for same immediately. Motion carr ied. The claim of J. Z. Jizba of Omaha, Nebraska for prepara tion of channel changes and borrow pits for Projs. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Free man spent the weekend in Grand Island visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Mc Cann. Mrs. Victor Plunkett visited Monday morning with Mrs. Ralph Lindsey. Mrs. Edith Wiles is staying with Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Zessin while Mr. Zessin Is working nights for a few weeks. Mrs. Harold Bruns and chil dren and Mrs. Clarence King and children were Tuesday af ternoon guests of Mrs. Raymond Freeman and Steve. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Schwarz and children of Murray visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Hammons and child ren .The men attended a board meeting at the Christian Church Tuesday evening. A baby shower was held Thurs day afternoon for Keith Alan, 3 weeks old son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Hammons at the home of Mcs. Stanley Schroedcr. Mrs. William Klemme and Mrs Lynn Rothe were co-hostesses. The afternoon was spent in playing games and the prize winners were Mrs. Ralph Lind sey, Mrs. Henry Knaup and Mrs. Hammons. The room was decor ated with streamers of crepe pa per down to a baby basket in which the gifts were placed. A delicious lunch of ice cream., cake, coffee and favors was ser ved to about twenty women at tending. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Knaup visited Mrs. Wiliam Knaup at Murdock Tuesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Sch madeke, Marilyn and Linda are enjoying a trip to the eastern United States. Thev will visit New York and the New England States. Thev will also attend the National County Agents Conven tion in Boston. Mass. Thursday morning Mr. Schmadeke appear ed on the program of Bill Cullen, "The Price Is Right,". He did not win any of the big prizes but was given a consolation price of a poloroid camera. Many Weep ing Water friends were watching Greg and Joyce Schmadeke are staying with an aunt in Kansas while their parents are away. Rev. and Mrs. Victor O. Sch warz of Murray accompanied by Drexel von Forrell of Humbolt and Mr. Cunningham of Falls City left Thursday morning for Clevland, O. where they will a ttend the International conven tion of the Christian Churches. Ronnie Schwarz is staying at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Schroeder and Susan Schwarz is staying with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hyde. Murray and Weeping Water will ex change speakers for two Sun days that the minister will be away. Richard Sack will speak Oct. 13 at Weeping Water and Clifford Rogers, both of Murray, will speak on Oct. 20. Maurice Hammons of Weeping Water will speak at Murray Oct. 13 and Mrs. Leon Bond on Oct. 20. The Past Noble Grand Circle met Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Lyal Fleming with Mrs. Lester Parson as co-hostesses. The members did sewing for the Odd Fellow and Rebe kah home at York. Mrs. B. A. Olive and Mrs. Hen ry Knaup went to Omaha Wed nesday afternoon and took Ben Olive to the plane. He went to Ann Arbor, Michigan where he will visit a few davs with his fraternity brothers at the Uni verstiy of Michigan. The Welfare Societv held their regular meeting in the Metho dist Church parlors with a cov ered dish luncheon. The meeting will be Nov. 4, election of of ficers. The ladies of the W.S.C.S. met Tuesday at 9:30 at the church for their annual trip to visit the Methodist Crowell Home at Blair. Fifteen ladies and Rev. C. F. Wiedeman took the trip. They met old friends. They enjoyed a bountiful basket din ner in the large dining room. Mrs. Tom Colbert and Mrs. E. J. Boedekcr were in charge of the birthday table. Rev. Wiedeman. Mrs. Hobart Henson and Mrs. Jensen provid ed the transportation. The Woman's Association of the Congregational Church met in the Church parlors. Hostesses were Mrs. II. E. Blaikie, Mrs. Rasmus Lauritzen Jr., Mrs. Lester Parson, Mrs. Harold Elliott. Miss Esther Te f It, Mrs. William Thornton. Mrs. Walter Little, Mrs. E. J. Bender and Mrs. Clarence Norris. The Opportunity Extension Club met at the home of Mrs. DcForest Philpot with Mrs. Myrtle Jameson as co-hostess Oct. 15. The group discussed a tour accompanied by the L. S. V. P. Mrs. DeForest Philpot assist ed by Mrs. Harold Domingo pre sented the lesson on "Cake Dec orating". Mrs. Domingo is a member of another club but she filled in on the demonstration. Next meeting will be Nov. 19. Mrs. Myrtle Jameson and Miss Villa Jameson were Thursday supper guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Troy Jewell. Sat urday dinner guests at the Jew ell home were Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Marsh and Mr. nd Mrs. Dav id Larson. Avoca News Mrs. Henry Mascman Laura and Myrtle Douty, Sew ard, spent the weekend with their sister, Mrs. Pearl Vette. Mrs. Ella Gollner returned home from Omaha where she was with her daughter, Mrs. Joe Olewine, who had surgery last week. Mrs. John Lingle Sr., has been ill all week with a virus infection. Lynn Hoback has been help ing in the appliance store this week. Denise Haveman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Haveman received the rites of baptism Sunday with Rev. Alvin Zeiling r officiating. Mrs. Ernest Have man and Chester Noerrlingcr were sponsors. Keith Robert Nocrlim; (.:, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Noerr linger also received the rites of baptism. Sponsors were Mr. r.nd Mrs. Richard Wilson. Mrs. Kord Sudman leaves this week to spend the winter with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rut lege at Library, Pa. The Green Thumbers Garden Club met Tuesday with Mrs. Gus Wohlers. New officers elected were Mrs. Harry Brockhoff, president; Mrs. Lenard Have man, vice president: Mrs. Joyce Shutz, secretary; Mrs. Kenneth Wessel, treasurer. Guests were Mrs. Harry Kepler, Mrs. Harry Wohlers, Mrs. Lenard Brinkhoff. Woman's Fellowship of the Congregational Church met Thursday in the church parlors with Mrs. Albert Sill and Mrs. Nancy Carsten. The devotional period was led by Mrs. Charles Marshall, a nice number of can ned fruits and vegetables were brought for the orphans home. Mrs. Lloyd Ganzel presented a coffee server to the fellowship in memorial to her mother, Mrs. Robert Mickle. It was announ ced the birthday party would be at the next meeting. Mrs. Oscar Zlmmcrer received word of the sudden death of her brother, John Smith of Omaha, Tuesday. Funeral was Saturday at Omaha. The children of the Avoca School and also 105 on O Street were given a ride on the lire truck as a part of observace of fire prevention week, Friday. Mr. and Mrs. James Ehlers, Bertram!, announce the birth of a son, Oct. 7. Maternal grand parents are Mr. and Mrs. Victor Suhr, Bertrand, Maternal great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Brchencamp, Bertrand, former ly of Otoe. Paternal grandpar ents are Albert Ehlers, Dalton and Mrs. John Ehlers, Bertrand. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Linhardt surprised their daughter, Mari anna on her birthday Friday evening. , Mrs. Silas Everett called on Mrs. Kord Sudman Friday at the Willard Hall home near Elm wood. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tefft, Waterloo, visited his mother sev eral days this week. On Friday, Mrs. Carl Tefft accompanied them to Oakland where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Mot1 iow and Richard. Mr. and Mrs. Tefft left Sunday for their home. Harold Dumke was one of the lucky deer hunters last weekend. It was estimated at 125-175 lbs. Mr. and Mrs. John Norris at tended funeral services for her brother, Water Powers at Ne hawka Wednesday. Wright of Denver to Council Bluffs Tuesday where she ac companied her father-in-law on the return to Denver. He had been in the hospital at Council Bluffs. Rita Peterson and Richard Place of Lincoln visited Satur day night at the Roy Ruhge home. Mr. and Mrs. Louie Allgayer Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Floy Murier called at the home of the George Smalls at Auburn and at the Marion Mannschott home at Omaha.
