A film, "Second Chance", sponsored by the Weeping Water Ministerial Association, was held Sunday evening In the Methodist Church. Rev. Wlede man ran the film and Rev. E. K. Bauman, led the group sing ing preceding the film. The Christian Church Choir, accom panied by the director, Mrs. S. H. Harmon, sang "Jesus Calls Us". Mrs. Lewis Baker held a birthday coffee Tuesday morn ing in honor of Mrs. Pat Wade. He accompanied his sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Sudduth, who are moving back to Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. Conant Wiles and Lou Ann were Monday afterternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wiles. Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Cooper and children were Tuesday afternoon guests of Mr. and Sack and girls, Murray. Promotion Day was held at the Congregational church. Mrs. Carter Nielsen had charge of the worship service and presen tation of pins to the senior group. Mrs. Rasmus Lauritzen Jr. had charge of the primary department and they presented a short program. Dickie Elliott, Mary Alice Wood, Ali:e Laur itzen and Janice Doming 3 were promoted to the junior high group. Mrs. Lauritzen presented per fect attendance pins and bars to 15 from the primary depart ment. Mrs. Frank Pace spent the weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elwin Issac and child ren. Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Rotne and boys were Sunday afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Selders of Louisville. The Friendly Farm Ladies elected new officers at a meet ing held at the homo of Mrs. Fred Holt. They are Mrs. Mark Wiles, president; Mrs. Vincent Rehmeier, vice president; Mrs. Victor Plunkett, secretary, trea surer; Mrs. Alvin Groesser, music leader and Mrs. Melvin Thomas, news reporter. The Better Best Extension Club met Friday afternoon, at the home of Mrs. Fred Wildrlck with Mrs. J. E. Renner as co hostess. Eleven members an swered roll call. Mrs. Kenneth Dokter conducted the meeting. Election of officers was held with all officers being re-elected. They are Mrs. Kenneth Dokter, president; Mrs. Ethel Hermann, vice-president; Mrs. Lee Stratton, secretary and treasurer; Mrs. Frank Hunt, news reporter. The lesson, "Cake Decorating," was given by Mrs. Stratton and Mrs. Dok ter. The next meeting will be Nov. 8 at the home of Mrs. H. I. Rookstool with Hattie Sperry as co-hostess. A birthday dinner was held Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Art Taylor, Sr., and Bever ly In honor of the birthday of Mrs. Taylor. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ora Coakley and Kathleen of Ashland, Mo., and Mr. and Mrs. Art Taylor, Jr. and Shelly and Teri, Murray. Mr. and Mrs. Art Taylor and Beverly were Sunday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Sheehan. Miss Marie Stock entertained at a miscellaneous shower Sat urday afternoon at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Har lon Stock, In honor of Miss Mar ilyn Rhodes. Co-hostesses were Miss Jean Curnes and Mrs. Gene Burgen. Twenty were In attendance. The room was at tractively decorated with bells and f,he chair in which the guest of honor was seated was decorated. The afternoon was spent in playing games with Miss Sharon Stock and Miss Rhodes as the winners. Miss Rhodes will marry Kenneth Stratton, Oct. 23, Methodist church. Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Stock and Judy of Kearney were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harlon Stock and girls. They will be married Oct. 24. Mr. and Mrs. Merle Hunt and Richard Boise, Id., are spend ing their two week vacation visiting at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hunt and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Rhordanz. They will leave for their home Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Hill and two children of Omaha were weekend guests ot Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Cherry. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Colbert, Falls City were Sunday dinner guests of Mrs.. Tom Colbert. They attended the Christensen Joyce wedding in the afternoon. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Kremer Funer al home in Omaha for Mrs. Anna Russell Burke, 88 who had resided at Omaha. Survivors are her daughter, Mrs. W. S. Meg gitt; two sisters, Mrs. A. B. Knotts and Sioux City, and Miss Dorothy Kate Russell, Omaha. Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The Russell family were former residents of Weep ing Water residing in the south part of town. Judge and Mrs. Calvin Russell were early resi dents and many remember Dorothy (Kit) Russell as she was a loved primary teacher for many years in Weeping Water. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Dettmer and two sons of Syracuse were Tuesday afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Dettmer and family. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ehlers, Sharon and Nancy and Char lene Mayfield were Sunday din ner guests of Mrs. L. F. Ehlers. Afternoon guests were Mr. and Mrs. George Urwin and Bill of Louisville. Harold Elliott attended a four-state meeting of farm loan men Monday and Tuesday in Omaha and was accompanied by Mrs. Elliott. Mr. Elliott Is secretary-treasurer of the Cass Otoe National Farm Loan As sociation. Mrs. Elliott attended the lunchon at noon in the Black Mirror Room of the Fon tenelle Hotel for the ladies. They both attended the banquet in the evening in the ballroom. Highlights of the conference were addresses by Honorable Joe Foss, governor of South Da kota; Fred W. Gilmore, vice -president, Federal Land Bank of Omaha; and a panel discus sion of current farm credit top ics with panel comprised of of ficials of the Federal Land Bank. Miss Susan Hobson was met in Omaha by her mother, Mrs. R. P. Hobson on Monday morn ing, from Clarement, Calif. Susan is a senior studen at Pomona College in Claremoht. She will return to California Sunday. Mrs. Gerald Wright of Den ver, Colo., arrived Monday where she will spend a few days with her mother, Mrs. John Heebner. Mrs. Wright came back to Nebraska to accompany her father-in-law, H a r v ey Wright, back to her home. He is suffering from back trouble and is in a hospital in Council Bluffs. Ruth and Raymond Hart spent Sunday in Lincoln visit ing at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Spohn and daugh ter. Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Hanlan were in Lincoln Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Rolland Cooper were Thursday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Cooper. Mr. and Mrs. William Reibold and Mr. and Mrs. Don Tague of Omaha were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harlon Stock and girls. The men went hunting. They visited Mrs. Dora Albin at Rest Haven in the afternoon and the Stocks attended the Christensen-Joyce wedding. Ruth and Ramond Hart were Sunday evening guests of Mrs. John Heebner. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Meisin ger and children visited Sunday afternoon in Louisville with Mr. and Mrs. George Stoehr and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Stoehr. Mr. and Mrs. David Baxter and boys and Mr. and Mrs. Leon Bond and Ricky of Louisville were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Buster Baxter of Lincoln. The dinner was in honor of the birthday ' of Bus ter. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Urwin visited Friday with Joellen Nix on at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Nixon of Nehawka. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Sack of Murray were Sunday afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Cooper and children. Mrs. Frank Pace, Mr. and Mrs. Troy Jewell and Mrs Stella Worman attended the 60th wed ding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wildrlck Sunday In their home. Mrs. Scott Willoughboy visit ed Monday morning with Mrs. E. T. Stacey. Mr. and Mrs. Don Urwin, Louisville, and Kenneth Urwin of Mound City, Mo., visited Sunday and were dinner guest3 of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Baker and children. Mrs. Cecil Peck and children of Blair accompanied Leo Kirch hoff, who attends Dana College at Blair, home and spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Baker. Vesta Baker Is employed in Union and she also spent the weekend at home. Mrs. Peck and children accompanied Leo to Blair Sunday evening. Mrs. Ed Slattery attended the St, Mary's Altar Society meet ing Wednesday afternoon at the home of Miss Anna Seiker of Elmwood. Seventeen mem bers were In attendance. The District Convention of the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary of the 12 districts was held Sat- J urday, at Weeping Water. 135 Auxiliary and Legion members l attended the luncheon' at the Congregational church. 181 Auxiliary and Legion members attended the banquet which was served in the Cass County Auditorium at seven o'clock by the Christian Church. The triple trio, comprised of Lois Patton, Loreli Smith, Shar on Stock, Linda Norrls, Dorothy Colbert, Dorothy Potts, Marl belle Elliott, Marlene Noble sang a song accompanied by Susan Wood. Susan Wood play ed a saxophone solo accompan ied by Mrs- S. H. Harmon. A dance was held in the aud itorium following the program of the evening. Junior Woman's Club The Junior Woman's Club met Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Bob Roberts with Mrs. Stanley Miller, Jr., as co-hostess. Mrs. Fred Saathoff con ducted the meeting. Fifteen members answered roll call. Reports were given cn projects members had decided on for the year. A committee named cho sen to work on these projects was Mrs. Lewis Baker, Mrs. Bill Dohrman, Mrs. Stanley Miller, Jr., and Mrs. Wayne Pederson. Following the meeting the ladies divided into four groups for a scavenger hunt. Upon their return a lunch was served by the hostesses. The next meet ing will be at the home of Mrs. Scott Willoughby with Mrs. Arthur Thomsen as co-hostess. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stone and boys, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Thoren, Charlene and Wayne and Mrs. Marian Hoback were Sunday guests at the home of Mrs. Fern Thoren to celebrate the 12th birthday of Charlene. Her birthday was Monday. Ice cream and cake were served. Mesdames Albert, Ed, Vin cent, and Francis Seiker and Mrs. Joe Gustin of Elmwood and Mrs. Ed Slattery attended the day of recollection at St. John's church Sunday afternoon. A lunch and social hour followed. Louisville High Class Surveys Racial Feeling LOUISVILLE-Galen Dodge and his Loulscllle High Modern survey on the racial problem. The question asked was, "How do you feel about the racial riots In the South?" Twenty-four students each asked three aduls this afternoon this question. Everyone con tacted recognized the situation as a real problem. The answ ers ranged from "send them back to Africa" to have just as many rights as anyone else." A few of the answers are as follows: "They should have a school of their own with their own kind teaching them." If the newspapers hadn't made such an issue of the integration things would of been alright." This segration trouble is an utter disgrace to the American way of life and democracy." The negroes have just as much right to go to school as the Mexicans, Chinese, and the rest of the races with colored skin." "They have as many rights as anyone else, but I don't be lieve in the Intermarriage." Auxiliary Meets At Louisville The American Legion Auxil iary met Oct., 5 at the Legion Hall. Several new members were welcomed into the Unit. After the business meeting adjourned Myrna Smith and Elva Inman had charge of the program.
