Mr. and Mrs. Allen Halvorsen of Ackworth, la., visited Halvor sen's aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Kirchhoff, and other relatives recently. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Kirch hoff were supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kirchhoff at Weeping Water Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wal berg, and family motored to Melrose, la., Sunday and spent, the day at Walberg's brother, Mr. and Mrs. Albin Walberg. Mrs. Henry Westfall under went surgery at St. Elizabeth Hospital the first of last week and is recovering very satisfac torily. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Borne meier and family of Elmwood were supper guests of Mrs. Bor nemeier's sister and family, the Orris Lannings, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Krumm, son and granddaughter of Lin coln visited at the home of Mrs. Nellie Stall, Wednesday. On Sat urday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Stall of Lincoln visited Mrs. Stall. Mrs. Elizabeth Emery of Ar co, Minn., visited her niece, Mrs. L. K. Swarts and family a few days last week and also her sister, Mrs. Emma Orentt of Colorado visiting at the daugh ter's home. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Ger hard entertained at their home Sunday honoring the birthday of their daughter, Mrs. Dick Norris, visiting during the sum mer, from Missouri. Miss Caroline Reitter return ed home Friday after enjoying a week's vacation and visit with relatives at Alva, Okla. Mrs. Emma Orcutt, of Derby, Colo., who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. LaVelle Swarts, left for San Francisco, Calif., Friday accompanied by a friend, Mrs. Freda Mace, of Cincinnati, O. Kaye Marie Swarts, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. K. Swarts, has been honored for her scho lastic record at the University of Nebraska by being awarded the University Regents Scholar ship. Stanley Phillip USAF Lincoln, was honored by a citation, at special military services at the air base Wednesday. The Dorcas Society of Em manual Lutheran Church, met recently at the church with the Mmes. John Schroeder, and Nel da Oberle as co-hostesses. Fourteen members answered roll call and Mrs. Headley re cently enjoyed her 91st birth day and donated a birthday of fering to the Society. The new pastor and wife, the Rev. and Mrs. Prang? have rented the school property for the present and plan to move Sept. 1. Rev. Hackman of Sew ard will conduct the worship service the next two Sundays. Caroline and Freda Reitter attended the Viox-Reed fam ily reunion at Antelope Park Sunday. Eldest person present was Charles Ried, Omaha and youngest Carol Ried. Ronnie Bornemeier, son of Clarence Bornemeier, of Calif ornia, visited in Eagle, recently. The family formerly lived in Eagle. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ru dolph and family visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Casper Spahn, at Beaver Crossing,. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Underwood and son, of San Joaquin, Calif., visited his cousin, Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Underwood, a few days last week. Paul Fuelling of Rockport, Mo visited his aunt and husband, Mr and Mrs. Edward Mueuchau, last week. Donald Wulf of Ralston . son of Henry Wulf and the late Ella Wulf, was not able to return to his home from the Omaha hos pital the first of last week as he and family had hoped. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Mueuchau returned home Wednesday from Minnesota, where they enjoyed a trip and vacation. Mrs. Gladyce Haas Crofton, of Toedo, Ore., visited Mrs. Hollie Stewart recently. Mrs. Crofton is a former Junior High teacher at Eagle and roomed at the Stewart home. Mrs. Emma Moore of Weep ing Water, visited a few days last week at the home of her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rausford. Mr. and Mrs. William Meyers Jr. of Montgomery, Ala. visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will iam Meyers Sr. a couple of weeks during his vacation at that city. Dr. Hubert Stewart of Pawnee City visited his mother, Mrs. Hollie Stewart Wednesday even ing. The latter returned home with him and will, later accom pany Mrs. Notnagle of Imperial to her home city. The Women's Society of Christian Service recently met at the Methodist Church with Mmes. Daw J. Fitsgibbons and John P. Fischer cohostesses. Mmes Laura West conducted the devotionals and Alice Frohlick the lesson. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Read of Lincoln, visited Mrs. Read's father, Jake Frohlick, now stay ing at the home of his son, Mr, and Mrs. Frank Frohlick. Charlie Scattergood's niece, Marion Christensen, daughter of Mrs. Irene Scattergood Christen sen of Lincoln recently was in jured, in a Lincoln auto accid ent, she was not seriously hurt. Dr. and Mrs. R. C. Hughes and daughter, Betty Jane, of Phoe nixville, Penn. are visiting Mrs. Hugh's parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Wenzell and a brother, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Wenzell and family for a couple of weeks. Mrs. Hughes is the former Esther Wenzell. Mr. and Mrs. Richard McCoy are enjoying, both a business and vacation trip to Wisconsin for a couple of weeks. Elmwood Park is scene of Snany picnics this August. Sun day there were two, one in the afternoon; and the Modern iMother's Club and families with 'a picnic supper. Most of the 20 imembers were present with their husbands and children, which made quite a gathering. The children from the toddlers to the older ages enjoyed the swings, which the Club recently had in stalled in the park, for the use of everyone. Even the sand box was of interest to the tiny tots. A family picnic was held at the home of Mrs. Blanche Kuehn and Alice. Lt. Commander and Mrs. W. S. Cates and three children who have been visiting her mother and sister, were the honored guests and the Reuben Stock family of Murdock was also present. She is another sister of Mrs. Cates. Monday, Aug. 5, Lt. Comman der and Mrs. W. S. Cates and children left to visit Estes Park, and other points of interest en route to their home in San Di ego, Calif., where he is to be stationed, after several years service in Newfoundland. Mr. and Mrs. Earl J. W. Wil liams, Lincoln, were callers at the C. A. Bronn home Wednes day evening. Mrs. Grace Lake, Lincoln, was visiting friends in Elmwood Monday afternoon. Richard Grant Crandall, 87, died Saturday at the Ebeler Nursing Home, Elmwood, where he had been a patient for some time. Funeral services were held at Clements parlors Tues day, 10:30 a. m., Aug. 6. He was a bachelor, whose home was at Unadilla. Burial in Una dilla, in charge of Clements Mortuary, Elmwood. Mrs. C. A. Bronn reports her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Streich, daughter and son, Clayton, and Miss Ly dia Streigh returned from a week's vacation in Colorado. Mrs. Sydney Moore has re covered from her recent illness sufficiently for them to attend church last Sunday. New Yorkers On Surprise Union Visit Mrs. L. G. Todd Phone 2441 Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ander son had a surprise one day last week, when Frank's brother, Amos, and family of Fulton ville, N. Y., drove in to visit them. They also visited several relatives in Plattsmouth before returning to their home. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Keedy of Ashland and Mr. and Mrs. Gar rett Taylor of Omaha were Sun day guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Porter. Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Rich and twin daughters, Iola Mae and Irene Fae, left Monday morning for a two week trip to Arkansas, where they will visit relatives. Enroute home they wil1 visit relatives in Oklahoma. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Rogers returned from a week's vaca tion trip, last Saturday. They were in Canada and around Lake Superior for several days. Several members of the W. S. C. S. met at the church Friday and Monday mornings where they prepared corn for the lock er, to be used for their fall dinner and supper. Mrs. Maggie Malone of Mo berly, Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Hestir of Pascagoula both sisters of Mrs. Herman Comer, are spending a month with Mr. and Mrs. Comer. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Rogers visited Mrs. Sam !Waters, a cousin from Fullerton, last Sun day, who is recovering from a serious operation in St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha. Mrs. C. E. Morris and Mrs. Frank Anderson were hostesses last Thursday afternoon of the Woman's Society of Christian Service at the Morris home. Twenty members and two guests, Mrs. Maggie Malone and Mrs. Jesse Hestir attend ed. Mrs. Iva Mougey acted as Secretary in the absence of Mrs. Kathryn Harrah. Devotions were conducted by Mrs. Todd. Mrs. Balfour told of the Wo men of the Bible alphabetically President reported that Iva Mou gey will attend the School of Missions in Lincoln later in the month. Mrs. L. B. Mougey re viewed the 4th chapter of our study book. Hostesses s e r v ed refresh ments at the close of the meet ing. Lynn and Ellen Paasch were guests late in the after noon. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Comer attended the annual Comer re union at Seward last Sunday. Mrs. John Wilhelm, Is suffer ing from a case of the mumps this week. Her son Wilmer also had mumps. Mrs. Cora Gerbeling Is wear ing a happy smile as she has received word that her grand daughter has given birth to a son. He has been named Mi chael Quinn, and his parents are Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Kron dak, Lincoln. This is her first great grandchild. Ronald Lingren, whose home is in Chicago, has been spending his summer vacation with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. George Bornemeier, since June. He has been here before with his parents, who did not come this year. He has been helping his uncle George on the farm and has also assisted How ard Pool in detasselin( corn. His cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Merle Buell, of Syracuse, have also benefited from his services. He will return to Chicago in time to help his parents move into their new home, recently purchased, on Palos Heights. Ronald will enter Carl Sandberg High School, this fall as a fresh man. Steam Engine Threshing; May sound a little old fash ioned, but that is what Supt. and Mrs. Clarence Souehek wit nessed last week: Threshing of oats by the use of an old steam engine, on a farm north of Sew ard, on the way to Broinard. The owner was making a dem onstration of the old time meth od. He is a collector of old steam engines, has seven or eight of them on his farm, one of them was equipped with four whistles. Souehek relates when he was a young boy he ran a steam engine and had a desire to see one again. It was in the early nineteen hundreds when most of the farmers in the mid west used the old steam en gine. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bornemeier had their son, Roscoe Paul, wife and three children here from Denver, over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schoenberg, of Red Oak, la., also Miss Ma rie Schlachter and son, David. sister of Schoenberg, from Red Oak, la., were at the Borne meier's over the weekend. Piano Recital Mrs. Dwight Clement present ed her piano upils in a recital in the Methodist Church, Elm wood, Tuesday afternoon. N.m teen numbers were scheduled but several were unable to present. Advanced students showed promise and their numbers gave evidence of many hours of prac tice. A fair sized audience at tended to greet the youthful participants. Refreshments were served to all in the Fellowship Room of the church. Murdock Girl Is Returned Home From Hospital Florence McDonald Tel. 2292 Mr. and Mrs. Marvin brought their daughter, Dianne, home from the hospital Sunday. Di underwent major surgery on her throat Tuesday. Rev. and Mrs. Melvin Meyers of Venice, Fla., were weekend guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wendt. Mr. and Mrs. Ed McIIugh spent the weekend in Atchinson. Kans., attending the 25th wed ding anniversary of an aunt and uncle. Mr. and Mrs. Verle Brunkow and daughter left Saturday for a 10 day vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Buck and family returned home Friday from their week's trip to Colo rado. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Schewe and daughters are vacationing in Minnesota this week. Mr. and Mrs. Gus Wilken re turned home Sunday after spend ing a week in Minnesota on a fishing trip. Frank Rosenow was brought home from the hospital a week ago Sunday and on Friday, Mrs. Rosenow suffered a stroke. Mon day she was taken to the Ebler Nursing home. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Stock left last Thursday morning for Colo rado where they will visit friends over the weekend. LeRoy Timm, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Timm, who has been in the Navy for a year and nine months, arrived home on Mon day morning. He has now been discharged. Having disposed of their prop erty in Murdock. Mr. and Mrs Bart Johnson and family moved to Ashland Saturday.
