COUNCIL CHAMBER CITY HALL WEDNESDAY, JULY 24, 1957. The City Council met in regu lar session at 8:00 P.M. July 24, 1957 Instead of July 22, as meet ing had been postponed on ac count of lack of quorum, with the following present: Mayor Bruce Gold, Councilmen L. W. Moore, George Kalasek, Wm. G Highfield, and City Clerk Al bert Olson. Absent Louis Swo boda. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. A request was read from Char les Dow to vacate the 10 Ft strip north of Lots 1, 2, 3 & 4 Block 2. Young & Hays Addi tion. After discussion It was laid over to the next meeting. The contract with Douglas McKnight on Sewer Survey was read. Moved by Highfield that contract be approved and Mayor Gold be authorized to execute same. Seconded by Moore. Mo tion carried. Douglas McKnight, Special Engineer, submitted a prelimin ary sewer survey at an estimated cost ol $6,550.00. Mr. McKnight was instructed to prepare detailed plans and specifications for this District to be known as Sanitary Sewer Dis trict No. 14. Rules were suspended on motion and Ordinance No 955 was read for second and third readings. Mayor Gold de clared Ordinance No. 955 passed and approved. On motion 1-1953 Internation al Dump Truck was purchased Irom Roy Sharp for $8o0.00 A meeting was held on July 17 of Federal and State Officials Representatives of Henningson, Richardson & Durham Inc. and Mayor Gold to view the pro posed site for a sewerage dis posal plant. A letter was read from T. A. Fillipi, State Sanitation Eng ineer, about the status of the City s application for federal funds for a sewerage disposal plant. Fred Vincent was appointed as Special Police Officer. A petition was read and re ferred to the City Attorney, from Meril L. Curtis and seven others to vacate the alley north and south in Block, Young & Hays addition and also open 11th St. between 1st and 2nd Ave. An appropriation Ordinance No. 956 was passed under sus pension of rules. A request was read and per mission granted to Margaret E. Love to excavate 4th Ave. for sanitary sewer service to her property. A request was read and per mission granted to Willard Christensen to cut curb at Lot 7, Block 166 So. 8th St. for a drive way to his property. A Resolution was passed pro hibiting parking on West side of Tenth Street between Avenue C. and the alley in Block 123. -Reports of the Police Judge were read and accepted. Parking meter collections for the week ending July 15th was reported as $212.00 and the week ending July 22nd was $217.00. Two local moundsmen combined talents to give Plattsmouth no-hit contest. . Butch McGraw hurled the first five innings spicing his no-hit performance with 12 Bucs., Yanks Win Titles In City Play Champions In the city recrea tion Pee Wee and Midget Lea gues were crowned last week with the Pee Wee title going to the Pirates and Midget dia dem to the Yankees. The Pirates split away early in their flag chase and held a three-game bulge in the final standings. However, the Yankees found the going a bit tougher and were able to snare the crown with a slim one-game margin over the runnerup Dodgers. Recreation Director Gary Ash baugh requested members of the Midget League who have not turned in their jerseys to do so immediately. He said this is necessary so jerseys may be cleaned and made ready for next season. He had driven out Washington Ave, when near 15th street, no ticed the smell of smoke in the car and a spark under the clash. He stopped and started to in vestigate when a wave of flame swept from the back of the car, it was a roaring furnace in the matter of moments. Mr. McCIintock was compelled to run from the car to the Kent station at Washington Avenue and highway No. 75, some two blocJcs away to give the alarm. By the time the fire depart ment reached the scene the car was a mass of flames and des troying all except the body. Chief Kruntorad states the fire was apparently caused by a short in the wiring of the car. Fancy Feeders Meet Cass County Fancy Feeders Club held its last meting re cenly at Steinhart Park. Mem bers enjoyed going swimming and having a picnic. Club tour was held Aug 11, and some of the members cal ves were judged. At the end of the tour. Police Court Has Quiet Run Today Today was a very quiet one , with only a few minor traffic , violations to demand the at tention of Judge James II. Gra-. ves. Bradley Field was charged by the city street department, with driving on an oiled road. ' Ticket was served by Officer Tesch and hearing set for Au gust 17th. Clark Finney was ticketed for parking in the flood zone and received a fine of $1 and costs, total $5. Richard Karr, was charged with driving on an oil road and was given a fine of $3 and costs or total of $9. Complaint was filed against Frank J. Krejci charging him with making an 'excavation in a city street without proper per mission or posting bond. Hear ing was set for August 19th. Hubert E. Kepling was charg ed by Officers Jenkins and Chap pell with making illegal turn on Main Street. Cash bond of $10 supplied and hearing set for August 19th. Homer L. Noble was charged with speeding in an alley. On was dismissed.
