SEMI-WEEKLY J0URNA1 PAGE TWO THURSDAY, AUOUST 8, 1957 Dial 241 Friends Honor Miss Staats At Dinner Saturday Several ladles ol Hip Writer's Club gathered at the Hotel Coffee Shop for dinner Satur day evening honoring Miss Pearl Staats who is visiting in the city. Mr?. Estelle McClusky and Miss Amelia Martens were also spec ial guests. Twelve attended the dinner and later were guests at the home of Mrs. P. T. Heineman. Miss Staats, former resident of Plattsmouth and English in structor in the local hih school resides at Lancaster, O., where she is librarian at the Boy's" State Training School. She drove her new car to this city. She will fly to Seattle, Wash., this week to visit her brother, Clarence, and stopped here en route home to pick up her car. Journal Want Ads Pay Plattsmouth Couple Enjoy Trip In West Mr .and Mrs. Louis Swoboda have returned home from a very delightful outing in the moun tain country that will long be a pleasant memory to them. They visited at Godfrey, Ida., where they were guests cf friends of Mrs. Swoboda. The outing in Idaho included visits at Rocky canyon where they admired the fantastic rock formations and a great number of springs. They also visited at the Sawtooth National Forest, celebrated Shoshone Falls, as well as Sun Valley, celebrated Idaho winter resort. The Plattsmouth people also enjoyed two weeks at Estes Park in Colorado before return ing home. The trip covered some 3,000 miles of scenic beauty on this vacation trip of Mr. Swoboda from the local BREX shops. V : MISS NEIIAWKA - Sharon Kil lers, daughter of Mr. and ."Mrs. Kay Fillers of Nehawka has been chosen to represent Nehawka at the Cass County Fair. .Miss Nehawka, a popular young lady of her community, was active in school activities serving in the pep club, as cheer leader, and was a representative for the Future Homcmakers of America that toured Chicago. Her attendant will be Darlene Murdoch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Murdoch. Darlene was football queen, active in FHA, pep club and was cheer leader. Miss Cass County will be chosen the afternoon of August 14th at the Fair. j Myron Rice Family ! Volk mer, Julian, and Eugene Klein of Union took place at Saint Bernard's Catholic Church near Julian the morning of August third. Reverend Father Clement Si-, winski officiated at the double ring ceremony and the nuptial mass in the presence of 160 guests. Reverend Father Felix Wirth of Olvmpia, Wash., a cousin of the bride, was also in the sanctuary. The church choir sang the mass and Mrs. Ronald Volkmer ' accompanied the Misses Janice and Rita Grimes, the soloists, i Baskets of lavendar phlox dec- j orated the altars. The bride, given in marriage ( by her father, appeared in a i floor length gown of hand clip-, ped imported rosepoint lace and nylon tulle over bridal satin. The snug bodice was styled with a sweetheart neckline and short skirt worn over hoops was fash- i icned with a peplum of match ing lace extending around the hipline. Her fingertip veil of; French illusion fell from a half: hat of lace medallions trimmed with seed pearls and sequins. : She carried a bouquet of lilies of the valley and stephonotis centered with a lavendar orchid, j Miss Sally Ann Volkmer of i Nebraska City, sister of the j bride, was maid of honor. MrsM Larry Zuroskie of Nebraska City, j sister of the bride, and Mrs.' Helen Klein, of Union, sister of the bridegroom, also attended the bride. Patty Francois and Karen Furst of Omaha were flower girls. Francis Volkmer was rir.g bearer. Cecil Klein of Union was best man for his brother. Larry Zur oskie and Alfred Volkmer, Jr., were groomsmen; Keith Drake and Keith Volkmer ushered. A reception was held in the church hall after the ceremony. A wedding dance for friends and relatives was held in the evening at the memorial build ing in Nebraska City. A dinner for fifty guests was served at one o'clock at the bride's home. The bride graduated from Saint Bernard's Academy and for the past two years has been employed at the telephone office in Nebraska City. The bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Klein of Un ion and graduated from the Un ion High School and is farming. After a short wedding trip, they will make their home on a farm northeast of Union. Picnic Honors Visitor From South Dakota Mrs. Tom Tennant Phone 4251 Mr. and Mrs. William Shade of Omaha visited at the Leston Wagoner home Sunday. They brought Doug Monroe with them. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hlavac and family were among those attending a picnic Sunday, hon oring Joyce Tlustos, Dallas, S. D., who has been visiting her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Tlus tos, and family and other rela tives. The event honored th? birthday of Elaine Tlustos of Plattsmouth. There were about 40 present for the happy event. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Spreick and Ellen of Murray called at the Elmer Spreick home Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Kaffen berger and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kaffenberger of Plattsmouth vis ited Sunday afternoon and eve ning at the George and Elmer Stoehr home. Mrs. Zelma Sutton visited Sun day at the Elmer Spreick home. Monday Mrs. Spreick and Mrs. Sutton, Bill and Bob, drove to Avoca. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sprinkel of Council Bluffs, visited Sunday at the Leston Tennant home. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Derby, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Derby, and Penny. Mr. and Mrs. Beau ford Clinkenbeard and sons, vis ited the Floyd Derby home at Avoca, la., Sunay. Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Albert. Ray and Kay, visited the Ray Parcell home in Elmwood Sun day. Mrs. John Wegener entertain-' ed Lemar Kraft at-dinner Mon day, who has returned home 1 from Texas where he has been : for his health. He is looking , fine and doing well. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lang spent Saturday at the Lester Tennant home. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Parks and Linda called Saturday eve ning. Mr. and Mrs. Dayton Hen nings and family were among the relatives of the Walker fam ily to attend the Walker reunion at Valley. Over 50 were present to enjoy this annual affair. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Liles were hosts at a birthday dinner Sun day when they honored Mrs. Li les father, Ted Moffit, of Louis ville on his natal day. Mrs. Moffit. Tommy and Jerry and Miss LaVona were also dinner guests. Sandra Clark Is Bride Of Oather Cook Miss Sandra Jean Clark, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. How ard E. Clark, and Mr. Oather Gene Cook, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas D. Cook, of Beard, W. Va., were married August 2 at the St. Luke's Episcopal church. Father Max L. Kors. pastor of the church officiated at the wedding ceremony in the pres ence of the immediate families and a few friends, at ten o' clock in the morning. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a blue and white street length frock and white carnation corsage. Mrs. Bill Cabiness, cousin of the bride, and Mr. Cabiness at tended the couple. The bride attends the Platts mouth High School and will graduate with the class of 1958. Mr. Cook attended Hillsboro High School West Virginia, and is stationed at Offut Air Force Base. The couple will leave August' 15th for a wedding trip to W. v a . i Cherub Choir Hosts Miss Carol Davis The Cherub Choir of the First Methodist Church planned a sur prise party honoring Carol Da vis. The party was held in the dining room of the church. Games were played and re freshments of cup cakes, ice cream and a cold drink were served. Afterwards the group presented Miss Davis with a gift. Muss Davis has been leader of the Cherub Choir, and will at tend Wesleyan University this fall. Other guests at the party oth er than the honoree and hosts were Mrs. J. H. Davis, Mrs. .sKrarl Senf and Mrs. Les Hutchinson. Swim Party Honors Marilyn Hutchinson Marilyn Hutchinson was hon ored on her tenth birthday an niversary Tuesday when her mother, Mrs. Les Hutchinson, arranged a swimming party for her and guests. All enjoyed swimming in the Steinhart Park Pool at Nebras ka City and then refreshments on the park grounds. Those attending were Sandra Keith, Susan Neal, Karen Poll er, Patty Holloway, Marcia Mc Quinn and Mary Helen Living ston. Others present were Mrs. Ja mes Keith and Scotty, Roger and Ronnie Hutchinson. Marilyn received many lovely gifts from her guests. Mrs. Capwell's Class Presents Fine Recital Pupils from the piano class of Mrs. J. A. Capwell gave a re cital in the Lions Club build ing Sunday evening. Those tak ing part were: Dorothy Lepert, Susan Han sen, Connie Wagers, Charles Mann, Jerry Taylor, Tommy Hanson, Karen Engelkemeler, Peggy Wagers, Tatty Beed, Wal ter John Smith, Joyce McClana han, Patty Haley, Margaret Tanzler, Alan Hansen and Linda Stander.
