Tile Society also voted to pur chase two entrv fees for the pastor's wife and missionary edu cation secretary, Laura West, to attend the School of Missions at Lincoln in August. The birthday table was patri otically decorated and centered with an angel food cake on the red, white and blue bordered spread. Mmes. Laura West. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Muen chau and family of Sioux City, la., visited at Muenchau's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. William Muenchau, last weekend. Mrs. Bertha Otley, 85, mother of Mrs. Maurice Robertson, suf fered further complications following- her return from the hos pital to the daughter's home. Mud destruction i c a u s e d the most damage. During the same time Schmie flin's sister and husband, the Al Richard family, near Waco, were victims of the tornado. However, the house was unmo lested but several other small buildings were damaged consid erably. Mr. and Mrs. Paul B. Johnson are parents of a baby boy, (:!i pounds, at the Lincoln hospial on July Mb. Schweeman's sister, Mrs. Rosie Palmquist of Greenwood, and her tw'o sons and families, visiting from out-of-state, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Palmquist and son, of South Dakota and Mr. and Mrs. Raloh Palmquist and four daughters of near Sacra mento, Calif. Rev. and Mrs. Paul Schmidt and family were honored with a picnic dinner at Arbor Lodge, Nebraska City Sunday when Mrs. (Schmidt cousins planned the outing. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Paul May and family, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Harrison, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Schultz of Bonnet and Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Wulf and family were busily engaged with the harvesting and could not be pre sent for the occasion. Mrs. Marion Wulf and chil dren motored to Sterling Mon day afternoon and visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Kruger. in observance of the lat ter's wedding anniversary. Gary Farle made a trip to Denver, Colo., during his vaca tion. H" is emntoved at Lin coln. He was a dinner guest-of former Eagle residents, the Ivan Bassett family who own and op erate a mofel west of Denver. Coach and Mrs. Doyle Gump and tw sons, hav bee'i refill ing at Nebraska City while Mr. Gump is attending Peru State summer school for eight weeks. Mrs. William Westfall. who underwent two major operations within week, recovered f-ora each quite encouragingly. How ever, SnMav morning she be came quite ill, and hasn't been nhie to retain anv nourishment Her many friends are hoping her condition will be for the better soon. E'mer Frohlich is undergoing eve treatment due to a loss of vision and eve distress. His brother, Mr. and Mrs. Lester F''n!ilieh, Lincoln, are assisting with the harvesting during his ailment. Frohlich entered the hosnjtal on Monday with the eye specialist's attention. Mr. and Mr. Howard Root and daughter, Diana, and son, Stan ley, motored to Humboldt July 4, and spent, the day with Mrs. Root's sister and husband. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Herr on the hitter's farm. Diana and Stanley remained at the aunt's home for a week's visit and vacation. Harold Siekman and mother, Mrs. A. II. Siekman, and Mrs. Alma Rohliffs of Lincoln return ed home Tuesday after the for mer attended the National De bates league at Lexington, Ky. He officiated a siudge. Siekman is a trophy winner with the Dia mond Key presented him for the honor award sometime ago. Mrs. Jesse Wall accompanied her daughter, Mrs. Arthur Thompson, Palmyra, to the Bry an Memorial Hospital Sunday afternoon and saw a new grand son, Marlin David, born July 5 to Mr. and Mrs. Paul B. John sen. They also had a visit with the baby's mother during visit ing hours. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Spohnle and family of Lincoln visited his narents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Snohnle and sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. William Trumble Sunday i vening. Allen, who was visiting Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Einder and family in Valley View, was surrounded by eager children. The children had their picture taken by Bill Steer, resident in Valley View. (I'hoto bv Bill Steer). Funeral Of Clinton E. Ncarhood Held Graveside funeral services for Clinton E. Nearhood. 41, of Ardmore, Okla., were held Wed nesday afternoon at 3:30 at Lin coln Memorial Park at Lincoln. Mr. Nearwood, a former Platts mouth resident, died Saturday at Ardmore of a heart attack. Rev. James K. Syon, officiated. Mr. Nearwood was a native of Hallam, Neb., and had also lived at Humboldt, graduating from the Humboldt High School. He was also a graduate of the Uni versity of Nebraska. He made his home in Platts mouth for some vears and was married in this city to Miss Hel en Hough, daughter of Mrs. Her man Hough of this city. He was emploved as a geolo gist with the Continental Oil Co., and served as the vice presi dent of the Ardmore Geologi cal Society. Mr. Nearhood was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lincoln. Surviving are his wife, Helen; son Thomas David of Ardmore, mother, Mrs. Anna Nearhood, Lincoln; brothers, Dale of Lin coln and Donald of Grand Is land. nic supper was enjoyed at the home of Edward Gerhard. The latter family ar rived in Lincoln Thursday and visited the Doctor's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Perry Colbert, and other relatives Mr. and Mrs. Orin Lanning received word their son, Rev. and Mrs. Dean Lanning and two daughters arrived home at Clif ton, N. J., safely via plane. The trip was quite eventful, having a storm part of the way and consequently rather rough. Mr. and Mrs. Harold French and family Mr. and Mrs. Fred French of Douglas, and French's farm employe, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Schildt and family, en joyed a picnic supper Thursday evening and followed by a fire works display. Floyd Ketelhut is undergoing special observation at the hos pital in Lincoln and is now some improved. He has been advised the extraction of all teeth and he will undergo the same this! next week, reported to us by his sister, Mrs. Harold French who has visited him at the hospital quite frequently. Mr. and Mrs. John Rudolph visited their daughter and hus band, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ste ge and sons, at Elmwood Sun day. Mrs. Florence Webber and family of Syracuse called at her parent's home, Mr. and Mrs. John Rudolph Sunday evening. Maxine Eidenmiller and Mrs. Julia Palin of Lincoln called at the home of Mrs. A. H. Siek man Sunday afternoon. Barbara Boyd of Columbus and fiancco. Lowell Umland, were supper guests of the lat ter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hen ry Umland, July 4. Miss Boyd recently completed a special course offered instructors at Nebraska Wesleyan. She will be a junior at the university this fall as well as Lowell, who, dur ing the summer has been em ployed with a construction com pany at Lincoln. S i i f W Mrs. Keith Presents Worship Service The Woman's Society of Chris tian Service met on Thursday afternoon in the Memorial Room of the Methodist Church with Mrs. Howard Wiles, president, opening the meeting and presid ing. In absence of the secretary, Mrs. R. C. Humiston. Mrs. W. L. Heinrich was appointed sec retary pro-tern. The worship service was led by Mrs. James Keith. An im pressive candlelighting service was used by Mrs. Edgar Glaze as a memorial to the members of the society who has been de ceased the past year .In this service she was assisted by Mrs. Karl Oeg, who read a poem and sang "They Are Not Lost To Us." Mrs. J. H. Davis served as accompanist. Mrs. L. B. Dalton gave the lesson from the book "Islands Await His Word." treating the subject from the standpoint of islands within groups of people and their relationships to each other. Mrs. Keith closed the lesson-worship period with a pray er for those from whom we are separated by fear or hate. Reports of various committee chairmen and chairmen of cir cles showed much activity along lines of church improvement and growth of society and plans for the year just beginning. The goal locally of the society for the current year is the purchase of a kitchen stove. Following adjournmentof the business session members and guests were invited to be ser ved from a lace covered table centered with an arrangement of summer garden flowers. The hostess group from the Dorcas Circle were Mrs. Robert Brittain, Mrs. J. E. Wiles. Mrs. John Schreiner. Mrs. Hemrv Frey, Mrs.G. Sawin, Mrs. C. Frey, Mrs. B. Sawin, Mrs. C. C. Miss Grace Perrv, Mrs. II. B. Perry and Mrs. John Sheard. Aguest of the meeting was Mrs. Alice Funk of Chicago. Lynn Root Named President Of Sewing Center Club Lynn Root, at a recently held election, was named president of the Teens Sewing Center Club Other officers named includ ed: Nancy Roelofz, vice presi dent; Kathryn Elliott, secre tary; and Sue Cook, reporter. Leader of the club is Lavon Howe. Next meeting will be held at the home of Carolyn Edwards, and it will mark the fifth for mal session of the organization. FLORIDA RELATIVES 14 Mr. and Mrs. Ed Wilcox of West Palm Beach. Fla., with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sindelar of Lake Worth, Fla., are enjoying a visit with their relatives and old friends in Cass County and other places in their native Nebraska. Both Mr. and Mrs. Wilcox are former Plattsmouth residents, and have many friends who have been most) pleaised to enjoy meeting them. Mrs. Wilcox is the former Loretta Propst and Mrs. Sideler. Edna Propst. daughters of the late Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Proust, pioneer resi dents. While here they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Propst the former a brother, and at Avoca with Mr. and Mrs. El mer Hallstrom. Mrs. Hallstrom being a sister of the ladies. They are visiting in Omaha n few days with friends and ex pect to return later to Platts mouth.
