S. attended an of ficers sub-district training meet ing at Palmyra, May Miss Grace Wood had the mis fortune to trip over her garden hose early Saturday morning re sulting in breaking her left wrist. She now has a cast on to her elbow, and is practicing getting along with one hand. Her niaco, Mrs. Lillian Cunningham, Lin coln, is staying with her for a few days. Mary Fischer was gathering some flowers from a neighbor's garden on Monitorial Day, and the owner's dog attacked her, biting her numerous times, which required a doctor's attention. Ladies Council The Ladies Council of the Church of Christ, Elmwood, met recently at the home of Mrs. Bess Robb with 17 members and one visitor present. Mrs. Dale Hull gave the de votions on " Women in the Bible.' Shirley Wenzel gave the lesson, telling about missionary families In Africa. She emphasized the Nickolson and Davis families. Plans were made for serving of the E. II. S. Alumni banquet, with Mrs. Skyle Miller, Jr., and Hazel Shelley as hostesses. Refreshments were served witli Dorothy Miller, and Hazel Shel ley as assisting hostesses. Lt. Gerry Stark, son of Eldon and Freeda Stark, was a visitor at the home of his aunt and un cle, Marjorie Stark-Miller and husband, Ed. He arrived Mon day and left Tuesday night. He brought his grandmother, Mrs. Lucy B. Lyle, Lincoln, with him to see some of the Elmwood relatives. She is not very weil so did not go with him to all the places he visited. Elmwood relatives and friends attended the funeral services of Henry Backemeyer, 1, Mur dock, held at Ebeneezer Church, Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Gerbeling, Nora, and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gerbeling, Lincoln, called for and took the men's mother. Mrs. Cora Gerebeling, and their aunt, Mrs. Grace Plybon, to Nebraska City for Sunday dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Wellington Den nis entertained the Dennis fam ily for a reunion Sunday the first family gathering in their new homes. All brought specials for the dinner. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Rase and son, Larrry, Bellevue; their daughter and husband. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Guiett. Woodbine, la-: Mr. and Mrs. Loren Dennis and two daughters, Bellevue; and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Rase, Chicago. The two sons of Well ington were also there. The Memorial Day program at the Elmwood Cemetery was well attended as usual. The speaker of the day was James Lake, Lin coln, who is a professor in the College of Law at the Univer sity of Nebraska. Being one of Elmwood's former citizens, many attended to hear him speak. He brought out how it was a tra dition in Elmwood to observe Memorial Day. Jerry is In the U. S. service and is being trans ferred to San Diego. Calif. In all there were 20 present who enjoyed the day. Donna May Miller, and roommate at the University Nebraska.
