Birthday A group of women surprised their friend and neighbor, Mrs. John Porter, Friday afternoon on her 81st birthday, at her home. Tire self Invited guests and honoree enjoyed refreshments of cake and Ice cream. Mrs. LcRoy Covert baked the decor ated birthday cake. During the afternoon games were played and Mrs. Wayne Dasher was awarded a special prize, and than a presentation of a potted plant was given to Mrs. Porter from her friends. Attending the party were Mrs. Ethel Hennings, Mrs. Wayne Dasher, Mrs. George McFarland Mrs. Bert Schwenneker, Mrs. Le Roy Covert, Mrs. Ollie Dasher, Mrs. Charles Ault, Mrs. W. 11. Spiegel, and Mrs. E. O. Vro man. Mrs. Porter lives alone, en joys good health and has a host of friends in Plattsmouth as well as In Cass County where she has made her home for so many years. Many Friends Attend Farewell Picnic More than forty guests attend ed a farewell picnic Sunday hon oring the Orvllle Nielsen family and Mrs. Ken Weaver and sons. Hosts for the picnic were Mr. and 'Mrs. Newton Sullivan and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hild In the pasture at the Sullivan farm. Dinner was served at one o' clock from the charcoal fires. The afternoon was spent in many ways, playing cards, bad minton, baseball, picking wild flowers and visiting. The Weaver and Nielsen fam ilies are moving from the city this month. Bridal Shower Honors Miss Gail Peterson A linen shower honored Oail Peterson, bride-elect, at Liza Morgan Hall at Peru State Teach ers College. I.nis Bush was the hostess at the bridal shower held April 24. Miss Peterson and Elwood Johnson. Plattsmouth High School graduates, will be mar ried May 31st, at the First Meth odist Church of Plattsmouth. Former Plattsmouth Couple To Observe Golden Wedding Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hansen celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, May 5th, with an open house at the Kimball Coun try Club. The couple greeted their friends and relatives from 4 to 6. Mr. and Mrs. Hansen were married May 5, 1907 In Omaha. They lived first on a farm west of Lincoln, then he joined the Lincoln Fire Department. He was named Fire Chief In 1920, the first man to work up from the ranks to that position in Lincoln. He retired in 1936 after 33 years service, 16 as chief. After living In Plattsmouth for 13 years, where they made a host of friends, they moved to Kimball five years ago with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Rosborpugh. Navy Mothers Club, Elects Officers The Navy Mothers Club elect ed their officers for the coming year at their May 2nd meeting at the home of Mrs. Clarence Akeson. Those elected were: Commander, Margaret Covert; first vict commander, Mary Wosham; second vice command er, Clara Essert, adjutant. Ed ith Akeson; finance officer, Mary Rea; chaplain, Mrs. Clarence Cotner; Judge Advocate. Ireta Wood; matron at arms, Mrs. Lee Cotner and Mary Parker and color bearers Tillie Minnear and Irene Davis. Meetings have been changed to the second Friday of each month and night meetings for the next four months. Plans were, made to takj part In the services on Memorial Day The -afternoon meeting closed with a visiting hour and a lunch was served by the hostesses. FBI KM Daughter Mr. and Mrs. Charles Vais of Owatonna, Minn., are the par ents of a daughter born April 30, weighing 5 pounds and 12 ounces. She has been named Marilyn Jane. The couple has two other children. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Charles Vais of Schuyler and Mrs. Freda Rhylander. 702 Ave. B Father And Son Banquet A Success The sons were hosts to a very fine Father and Son Banquet held April 28, at Christ Lutheran Church. The decorations carried out the Automobile motif. The programs had pictures of the old Ford for the Dad's, and the sweptwing Dodge, and Chev rolet's for the sons, on the cov ers. The tables were decorated with small model cars. Thesa were furnished by courtesy of the Chevrolet Co.. Plattsmouth, also Bob Wagner and James Ul rich had two larger models at the speakers table. The Master of Ceremonies was Ralph Hild; the song leader, Joe Zastera; the accompanist, Jack Franke, the dinner music, by Patty Toman, Sandy Toman and Mrs. Arnold Meisinger. The welcome was given by Herbert Kraeger, the response was made bv Louis Friedrich Patty and Sandy Toman played and accordian duet; John Kaffen- berger gave some exhibitions of magic. The speaker for the eve ning was Elmer Sasse, treasur er and business manager for Midland College, Fremont. His theme was "Chrsistian Voca tion" and "Christian Leader ship". About 142 persons were present and enjoyed the fellowship and the program. The committee In charge of planning and preparation was Robert Wagner, chairman; Ralph Hild. Deloss Bond, Gil bert Fornolf, John Albert, Jr., Bob Wagner's mother, and the wives of the other committee men were in charge of the food department, and the chief cooks. The cooks helpers were Mrs. Albert Ulrich, Norma Schmidt, Tillie Stoehr, Luella Melsinger, Dora Hild, Mrs. Bob Gay, Lu cille Davis and Mrs. Otto Mei singer. The waitresss were Jeanne. Janet and Volene Albert, Connie Melsinger, Janet Ann Friedrich, Carol and Sharon Davis, Valeria Melsinger, Dorothy Stoehr, June Maatsch, Mary Mayfield. with Mrs. Laverne' Meisinger In charge of the waitresses. Clendale Club Has Last Meet Of 5eason LOUISVILLE (Special) The Glendale Club met at the home of Mrs. Mabel Ingram on the evening of April 26. This was the last meeting of the season. President Mollie Wegener, op ened the business meeting by repeating the Lord's Prayer. Roll call, "Spring Planting Tips" was responded to by fifteen mem bers present. Blanche Ward won the club gift. Election of officers held as follows: ' Esther Stohlmann, president, Frieda Read, vice president; Beth Welte, secretary; Shirley Ingram, treasurer; and Mollie Wegener, news reporter. Guests were Mrs. Gail Meisinger, Mrs. Herbert Keckler and Mrs. El mer Sprleck. We were happy to have Mrs. Keckler join our club at the meeting. Mattie Hennings gave a his tory report of how the club was first started. This year is the 35th anniversary of the club. Mrs. Mattie Hennings was the first president and Mrs. Mabel Ingram was the first secretary- treasurer. President Molhe Weg' ener presented each of the la dies with a gift. An exchange of flower slips and shrubs was held. Meeting adjourned by group singing "Good Night Ladies . The remainder of the evening was spent in playing Dub Bridge at three tables. Hazelle Ingram won high, Mollie Wegen er, low. A lunch was served by the hostess assisted by Blanche Ward as cohostess. Watch for the date and place of the Mother's Tea. Hazelle Ingram News Reporter Family Night Dinner To Be Held At The Methodist Church In observance of Family Week, second week of May, a family night dinner will be held at the Methodist Church parlors, Wed nesday May 8, beginning at 5:30. The pastor and his wife, Rev erend and Mrs. DeSpain. will fur nish the ham, an each family bringing a covered dish and own table service for the fellowship dinner. All members of the church are invited, and a large crowd is anticipated with the addition of so many new members. A film strip and musical num bers are scheduled for the pro gram. Mr. and Mrs. Byron Gorton of Denver, Colo., were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Gorton and family and attended the funeral of Mr. Gorton's moth er, Mrs. E. A. Lundin. K. P. (tth Phone 32A9 Mr. And Mrs. Southworth - Fauquet Rites Held At Pleasanton Church The Evangelical United Breth ren Church of Pleasanton was the scene of the wedding cere mony of Jeanette Southworth, and Larry Fauquet, April 28th. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Southworth of Pleasanton, and the bride groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul E. Fauquet of this city. Reverend Albert Murdock of ficiated at the 2 o'clock in the afternoon wedding in the pres ence of 120 guests. Baskets of white gladioli, pink and blue carnations decorated each side of the church altar: The bridegroom's sister, Miss Jane Fauquet, played the wed ding march and sang "Through The Years" and "The Lord'3 Prayer". Emily Spicer accom panied her at the piano. The bride, given in marriage by her father, appeared In a white crystalette princess gown. The bodice of embroidered cry stalette featured a scalloped ba teau neckline and short sleeves. Her whisk veil of nylon tulle was caught from a half hat. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Beins en tertained Sunday at a family dinner honoring their son, Don, who made his departure for the Army this morning, reporting in Omaha. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Beins and Mike; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Beins and Randy; Mr. and Mrs. Bob Beins and Lynn;1 Mr. and Mrs. Jon Schuetz; Mrs. E. W. Beins; Jim Hansen and Mr. and Mrs. Don Beins. Afternoon guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ben Speck and Jay. Eagles Auxiliary Has Regular Meet The Eagles Auxiliary held their regular business meeting, Thursday with president Helen Jordan presiding. Secretary Dorothy Janacek read the communications, . one of which was a thank-you card for gifs and party given for Elvera LaHoda and Hilda Wal lace, who are now happily lo cated in Las Vegas, Nev. Donations were voted for the Red Cross and Father Cassedy's Home on the Range for Boys, located at Sentinel Butte, N. D. Irene Smith reported on the recent anniversary party at Council Bluffs, la., at which the Iowa State President was in at tendance. Marge Willis reported the an nual fried chicken supper will be held Saturday, May 18. The Auxiliary voted to hold joint installation of. officers with the Aerie Wednesday, May 29 at 8 o'clock. All interested per sons are invited to attend. Impressively iniated were Ida Hardman, Arlene Kahout and Ireta Wood. These ladies filled the membership quota for the fiscal year ending June 1st. The meeting closed in due form to meet again on May 16. Rebekahs Initiate At District Meet Twenty-nine members of the Bud of Promise Rebekah Lodge attended the district meeting Tuesday in Omaha. The meeting, an all day affair, was held in the ballroom of the Rome Hotel. Officers of the Plattsmouth Lodge with Clara Olson, Noble Grand, conducted the initiation services for 12 candidates of the (Jma)i-i District No. 2. Freda Stlbal was elected vice president of the district and El eanor Winscott acted as dis trict page. , y ww Larry Fauquet worth of Pattsmouth, was ma tron of honor wearing orchid crystalette, princess style. She carried a nosegay of white glad ioli. Miss Shirley Hild, Plattsmouth and Miss Carole Busch of Pleasanton were bridesmaids. They wore gowns of crystalette, styled as the matron of honor; Miss Hild attired in pink and Miss Busch in blue. They car ried nosegays of gladioli. The bride's attendants all wore head pieces of white cushion chrysan themums. Donald and Dale Dehm, neph ews of the bride, were ring bearers and Darlene Dehm was flower girl wearing orchid nylon organdy trimmed with white lace and carried a bouquet of white daisies. The bride's mother wore a dress of blue lace and white accessories and a corsage of white carnations. The bride groom's mother wore an orchid suit with yellow accessories and a corsage of white carnations. Max Parks of Omaha was best man. Seating the guests were Uohn Southworth, brother of the J bride and Richard Glaze of 1 riiiusmuum, A reception in the church par lors was held immediately fol lowing the ceremony. The three tier weding cake appointed the serving table, surrounded by blue, pink, orchid and white dai sies. Lucille Southworth Dehm, sister of the bride, served the cake; Mrs. Corvin Carpenter ser ved the ice cream and Irma Karel poured coffee. Frances Wilson tended the guest book and Patricia Berans and Janet Krenzer had charge 'of the gifts. The bride chose a linen weave navy blue suit with blue and white checked jacket for her traveling costume. Mrs. Fauquet is a graduate of the Pleasanton High School. Mr. Fauquet graduated from the Plattsmouth Schools in 1954 and is employed at Henningson Engineering Co., Omaha. The couple will reside in Omaha at 2221 Deer Park Blvd. CALENDAR Monday, May 6 . Woman's Society Elects Officers LOUISVILLE (Special) April 25th the Woman's Society of Christian Service met in the Methodist Church. Mrs. Daisy McNealy led the devotions with Miss Laura Schoeman reading the 91st Psalm and Mrs. Doris Hirsch singing "Beautiful Gar den" with Mrs. Aletha Uhley at the piano. The President, Mrs. Henriet ta Alfrey opened the business meeting. The District meeting was announced to be April 30th at the Hanscom Park Church in Omaha. Secretary's reports were given by Mrs. Mary Ame land, Mrs. Anna Stlffler and Miss Laura Schoeman, the cour tesy and visitation committee. The officers elected were presi dent, Mrs. Henrietta Alfrev; vice president, Mrs. Mildred Heier; recording secretary, Mrs. Doris Hirsch, treasurer, Mrs. Patti Murray among other of ficers. Mrs. Anna Stiffler continued with the study of Paul's Let ters to the local churches with all joining in the discussion. The next meeting will be May 9th with Mrs. Alletha Uhley as hostess. Refreshments were ser ved at the close of the meeting by the hostesses, Mrs. Doris Hirsch and Mrs. Gertrude Koop. Mrs. Redella Standcr News Reporter Birthday Dinner Honors Fred Lake ELMWOOD (Special) Fred Lake was the honored guest on his birthday Monday April 29, at the home of his sister, Mrs. Grace Lake-Moomey. A bountiful dinner was served at the well appointed table; which also included a beautiful ly decorated birthday cake. Other guests entertained be sides the honored guest and his wife, Mrs. Fred Lake, were Mr. and Mrs. James Lake, their son, Jimmy and daughter Barbara and Dr. and Mrs. Guy Lake, all of Lincoln. A sister, Mrs. Ger trude Sullivan, Des Moines, la., was unable to attend, and was the only member of the Lake family absent. Ju,l $20 Kalasek Home Is Scene Of Bridal Shower, Sunday Mrs. Gerald Ottersteln and Mrs, Leonard Kalasek were host esses at the Kalasek home Sun day to a bridal shower honoring Miss Gail Peterson. Sixteen guests favored the bride-elect with miscellaneous gifts placed on the decorated gift table of streamers and rep lica of the bridal bouquet. The afternoon was spent in visiting and discussing the wed ding event of May 31, when Miss Peterson and Elwood Johnson will be married at the Methodist Church of Plattsmouth. Miss Peterson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hyde and the prospective bridegroom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. A. E. Johnson, of this city. They are students at Peru State Teachers College.
