MILWAUKEE Responding to a call, an ambulance driver went to pick up Michael Wilson who had fallen from a horse and broken his left leg. As soon as he was placed in the ambu lance, Raymond J. Surprise stumbled into Wilson's farm yard. He had fallen from a horse and suffered a badly sprained shoulder. Both men were placed in the ambulance and taken to the hospital. Wilson of Lan caster, Pa., has sent the Jour nal a 'copy of the Plattsmouth Daily Herald, printed In April 1870, which is the real historic document in its news story as well as typographic make up as compared with the modern type of paper. he paper was published dally and weekly by H. D. Hathaway, one of the best known of the pioneer newspaper men of this part of the west. His plant was located on the site of the pres ent St. Paul's Church at Fifth and Avenue A- Older residents may recall the building but very few the names of the business houses or those mentioned in the news. In the advertising section Is found Tootle, Hanna & Clark, bankers, dealers In gold and silver coins, exchange, U. S. and other stocks, drafts drawn. This firm later moved to St. Joseph, Mo., where they oper ated for many years. The Bonner stables was oper ated by Buttery & Lazenby, lo cated at Fourth Vine, (Avenue A) 'where the Sattler Funeral Home now stands. Burwell Spurlock and R. Bax ter Windham were engaged in the real estate business. Both men were very prominent in the history of Nebraska. R. R. Livingston and J. W. Rawlins were engaged as phy sicians and surgeons.
