David McKay, who has been at the Providence Hospital on South 48th St., Lincoln, is re covering satisfactorily and it is hoped he will be able to return home soon. Mrs. A. II. Siekman and Mrs. Alma Rohliffs, Lincoln, visited at the home of Mr. and Mi. Ernest May at Walton, Thurs day. The latter has been ill with a thrombosis heart ailment for .several weeks. The Eak' folks had made a business trip ! to Plattsmouth during the fore noon. Mrs. Ula Westlake attended the funeral services of Mrs. A dolph Ross, at Nehawka, Friday afternoon. Mrs. Matilda Markland called at the home of her sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Westlake, last Saturday after noon. J Mrs. Clarence Westlake and daughter, Helen and Mrs. Jesse j Westlake motored to Nebraska iCity, Wednesday and had clin j ner with the latter's sister, Miss jlmo Heebner. They returned home by way of Syracuse, where Helen had an appointment with the dentist. The above folks also called at the Ernie Staack's home while at Syracuse. Relatives have received word from the Forest Hardnocks at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, (awaiting surgery for their daughter, Patricia), the surgery will be made on Tuesday, morn ing March 19. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rocken bach and son, Mr. Harry Rock enbach and daughter, Mrs. Ru dolph Umland of Lincoln attend ed the funeral services of Mrs. Rockenbach's sister-in-law, Mrs. Theodore Hodtwalker at Grand island Wednesday afternoon. I Mr. and Mrs. Harley Smith 'enjoyed a trip to Denver, Colo., I with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Smith J of Avoea, last weekend. They j attended the 50th wedding anni versary open house for her j brother and wife at that city. jMrs. Smith took ill enroute home ' with a cold and later compli cations resulted in the illness and diagnosed as pneumonia. She has been bedfast since her return. It is hoped she will soon be improved. Mrs. John Keriakeder of Hay Springs visited this week at the home of her mother, Mrs. Mo- croft and sister and family, the Mr. and Mrs. William Malone's. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Phillips and family of Lincoln spent Sunday at the home of Mr. Phil lip's parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.. N. Phillips. Mr. and Mrs. Lavelle Swarts and family tripped to Stanton, Sunday and spent the day with Mrs. Swarts' cousin, Mrs. Lois Kautzman. The latter returned home with the Eagle relatives and was an overnight visitor. On Monday, Mrs. Kautzman visited her son and daughter at Lincoln who are attending the University of Nebraska. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Ruge of Omaha and Mr. and Mrs. Earle Starr and two children of Lin coln visited at Mrs. Ruge's sis ter and Mrs. Starr's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Page re cently. Mmes. O. E. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Tedrow of Valley visited Mrs. Tedrow's aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Wright, last Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wult visited at Omaha Wednesday, to see their new granddaughter, Donna Lee. She is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Wulf of Ralston and was born on her grandfather, Henry Willi's birth day, March 7. Otto Puis Celebrate 50th Anniversary Mrs. Neva Read Phone 6021 Mr. and Mrs. Otto Puis cele brated their 50th anniversary Thursday, March 14, and held open house at the Christ Luth eran Church on Sunday after noon, March 17, from 2 to 5 p. m. Mr. and Mrs. M. Mason of Lincoln drove to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Duane Sack and family last Sunday for a visit. Mr. and Mrs. Mason are aunt and uncle to Mrs. Sack. Mrs. Mary Eppings of Lincoln, Mrs. Clara Arnold and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Koke were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lancaster. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Sack Cathy and Barbara drove to Au burn last Sunday to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Whit low where a birthday dinner was given honoring Mrs. Mary Schwab. Mrs. Schwab is an aunt of Mrs. Sack. She was celebrat ing her 89th birthday. The United Presbyterian Mis sionary Society met last Wed nesday afternoon for its guest day with Dr. Mary Smith, a missionary who has served in Africa, as guest speaker. Dr. Earl Conover had charge of the worship service at the United Presbyterian Church last Sunday morning. The Youth group of the Mur ray United Presbyterian church will have charge of the worship service at Cedar Creek next Sun day morning then will come to Murray where they will be in charge here. A "Guest Night" was the oc casion for a covered dish supper held by the Homebuilders Sun day School Class of the Chris tian Church on March 8. The ; supper was well attended with 1 11 adults and 7 children as J guests and 22 classmembers and their 18 children. She went up with Mrs. S. L. Clements but had to remain longer for her glasses. She reports a good visit with her daughter, and also a rest, as Dr. Betty was on duty during the days. Sumner Hall, Ncligh. visited his mother on Tuesday and stayed over night. He took his mother, Mrs. George Hall, home with him for a visit of several days. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Oehler king are building a new home on the south sid.' of the road of their land, opposite to their pres ent home. The foundation has been completed, the sides up and some partitions in before the snow of Thursday which will delay construction for awhile. Is she the youngest secretary? Little Stephanie Quellhorst at age three answers the telephone for mother, and even takes the name of one calling, and tells mother. The first time she answered the phone it was for a call from her aunt Bettie, and the next call which she answered, the mother was out of the house, and Stephanie could not tell the voice, so mother asked her al ways to ask who was calling, and she has done so since. This seems a good beginning for a little "Brownie". Mrs. Brice Quellhorst has recently helped organize a Brownie troop and also with another leader or ganized a girl scout troop. March is Red Cross month, and the need of funds Is great this year. Red Cross service covers the world, and every citi zen should feel the responsibil ity to do their part. Mrs. Emily Gonzales just re turned from a three-month trip visiting her son, Donald and family, a' Silver Spring, Md. While there they took a number of trips nearby. She also visited Mr. and Mrs. Robert Holder and son, at Knoxville, Tenn. Mrs. Holder is the former Emily Reeve, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Reeve. March Winds, Dust Edward Bornemeier recalls on March 20, 1935, there were high winds and dust, which cut visi bility to 80 rods. The black bliz zard came from Oklahoma, west ern Kansas and from southwest ern Texas. The fine dust sift ed through doors and windows so much you could write your name in the dust settled on the furniture in the homes. It was said the dust was seen in New York City. Richard Pratt gave a report to the Elmwood Farm Bureau unit, on the activities of lobby ing of farm bureau in the Uni cameral on bills of interest to farmers. This meeting was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Pratt on March 7. Briefs Mrs. Janice Hill from Atas cadero, Calif., arrived last Fri day, to visit her father, John Gonzales, a few days. On Sun day, her brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Gonzales drove her to Crete where they visit ed relatives: the Ed Shepherd's and Mr. and Mrs. John Weil age. She returned to her home in California, leaving Monday morning. Mrs. Minnie Rosenkoottcr and Mrs. Bertha Oehlerking were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Rosenow. Mr. and Mrs. George Eide miller drove to Omaha Sunday, March 3, where they met their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Gard, Jr. who had tickets to attend the boat show. They had dinner together and also visited some of Mrs. Gard's relatives in Omaha. After the Gards' train left for Lexing ton, the Eidemillers returned home. At the Elmwood school cau cus, District No. 95, held March 12, the following were nominat ed to be placed on the April 2 ballot. William Hansen, Myrl Miller, Glenn Miller, Chester Bornemeier. Two to be elected by the voters for a four year term. Dwight Clements and Dr. Glen Knosp both gave talks on the proposed Alvo and Elmwood School districts. Miss Caroline A. Robb has rented and moved into the Har ry Linder apartment located on D Street, east of the post office. A runaway Air Force mata dor missile that was launched In New Mexico was believed to have crashed in western Colo rado or eastern Utah. Police Officer Enjoys Solo Volf Hunt At Farm Officer Schneider of the Platts nouth police force had a startl ing experience Saturday morn ing with a "hunt breakfast", as the English term it. He with the wife and new son have been staying at the farm home o.r Mrs. Schneider's parents, Mr md Mrs. Gkn Wetenkamp for the past few days. The Wetenkamp family have lost a great many chickens recently from visits of coy otes and wolves. Saturday as Wayne was starting to lay a way the hot cakes, a coyote was seen in the farmyard, trail ing down a chicken. The officer rushed out with his police pis tol, and took three fast shots at the invader, who in three leaps was away to safety. Apparently none of the bullets took effect but sure scared any thought of chicken stealing from the coy ote. Legal Notices SMITH & LEBENS.
