SEMI-WEEKLY JOURNAL PAGE SIX Thursday, February 28, 1957 Many Attend VFW Meet At Falls City Sunday, members of the Sixth district of the Veterans of For eign Wars and their Auxiliary met at Falls City to participate in a very interesting and large ly attended gathering of the two groups. Meetings were held at the Vet eran's Club for both groups and the dinner that closed the ses sions. Mayor Novak of Falls City extended the welcome to the visitors on behalf of the city and the pleasure that tkeir gath ering brought to the community. Greetings were also extended by John Cooper of Humboldt, state commander of the American Legion, on behalf of his organi zation. Attorney Charles Cheney of Falls City also extended greet ings. State officers of the VFW to be heard during the program were Wilbert Wagner of Culbert son, state commander of the VFW, Larry Dufree, state ser vice officer of the VFW, Robert A. Lowe, Lincoln, state adjutant of the order. Louis Erby, state head of tne Veterans affairs spoke on the work of his office in the handling of the problems of the veterans and their fam ilies over the state. Dale Bow man, state junior vice-commander of the VFW of this city was also heard on the program. At the meeting of the veter ans, the matter of the Crest view Lodge of the VFW near Papillion, was discussed. This camp for the youth of the state has been very successful in the past, it is expected that this important part of the youth pro gram will be continued. It has provided outing and recreation for several hundred in the time of its existence. Following the business session the joint group enjoyed the din ner party. Those attending from Platts mouth were: Junior State Vice Commander Dale Bowman and wife. Commander Leroy Wilson of the Plattsmouth post and wife ; Edgar C. Kief, Ralph Mamoran, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Fitch, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Mclean, Mrs. Hazel Fitch, Mrs. Sophie Wolever Mrs. Clara Jordan, Mrs. Bar bara McGraw Mrs. Pearl Meyer Eldon E. Connie Richards, daughter of Mrs. Daisy Richards, returned home Wednesday morning from the Children's Memorial Hos pital in Omaha where she has been a patient undergoing ob- servation. H. Meade Alcorn Jr., was chosen Repubican National Chairman by the party's Na tional Committee after it was in formed that President Eisenhow er "wrould like very much" his selection. On and after March 2, 1957 the of fice of the Plattsmouth Loan and Build ing Association will close at 12 noon on Saturdays. Mrs. Alma Berner Weeping Water was in town Wednesday and had dinner with Mrs. An na Roberts and while in the city subscribed to The Plattsmouth Journal. Mr. and Mrs. F C. Linville of Omaha visited the Greel ey Beils the past Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Greeley Beil and grandchildren, Kim and Lorraine visited at the Wildon Switzer home in Nehawka Sunday. Birthday dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ogg were Mr. and Mrs. Martin Spor er of Murray and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Weible of . Nebraska City. The occasion was in honor of Mrs. Weible's birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Minni ear visited in the home of their son, Harley Minniear and fam ily at Central City, the past week. Thursday callers were Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hollatz and baby. Max Porter is to leave Fri day for a weeks vacation in the south, going with a party of friends from Omaha. They are driving to New Orleans, weher they will enjoy the Mardi Gras and the crowning of King Rex on Shrove Tuesday, March 5th. Wednesday morning, Seabee Deisel Constuctionman John England departed for the Naval Reserve Training Base in Ber muda, where he will spend the next 16 days in mechanic school. The trip was made by air. The young man is the son of Mrs. Elsie England. Mrs. Newton Sullivan re turned home Mondy from an Omaha hospital where she underwent major sur gery. Mrs. Sullivan is pro gressing satisfactorily. Second grade pupily of Central School honored their teacher, Miss Muriel. Riecke, with a handkerchief shower. The event was a surprise birthday party. Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Tritsch and daughter, Phyllis, are trav eling the southern states. From New Orleans, Mr. Tritsch will fly to Old Mexico on twine bus iness, while Mrs. Tritsch and Phyllis will enjoy New Orleans Platte View Club Has Regular Meet Mrs. Hubbell and Mrs Schneider gave the lesson "Art and Needlework" at the Platte View Extension Club meeting held at the home of Mrs. George Schroeder, Thursday.' The meeting opened with the flag salute and group singing. One member was absent. It was voted to send a con tribution to the Diabetic Camp Fund. A Valentine exchange was en joyed by the members before adjournment. Refreshments were served - by the hostess, Mrs." Schroeder, The March meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Merle Bornemeier. Miss Myrtle Wood of Wa bash was a business caller in this city Wednesday. Recent visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Jack W. Fhiipot were Bert Philpot and Mrs. Adam Cook of; Weeping Water. t - Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hunt and Mrs. Merle Hunt and Richard of Boise, Ida., visited and were dinner guests of Mrs. Frank Hunt's sister, Mrs. Minerva Coolman. Another sister, Mrs. Edith Truman, of Bristow and her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Lmdhorst of Council Bluffs, la., were also present. Chris Rasmussen and G. L. Heneger of Weeping Water were in the city today at tending to business matters. Mrs. L. A. Amato departed by plane Tuesday for a two weeks visit in California with her. brothers and sisters. Mrs. Amato will return her mother, Mrs. Aitkenhead, who makes her home in this city with the A mato family. Kenosha Club Makes Donation To The Heart Fund ' Several dollars were collect ed for the Heart Fund at the February meeting of the Ken osha Home Extension Club which met at the home of Mrs. ! Georgia Creamer. Mrs. Forest Beil presented Heart Fund folders to the mem bers and asked for donations with a generous response. President Mrs- Robert Snod grass conducted the business meeting and Mrs. Elwood Snod grass gave the devotionals. followed by Mrs. Beil, leading in group smgmg. "America The Beautiful" was sung in unison, honoring the patriotic month of February. Donations were also given for the Diabetes Camp Fund and Pennies for friendship, as wrell as voting to pay county and State Federation dues from the treasury. An interesting lesson "Mental Health", was presented by Mrs. Louis Sack and Mrs. Greeley Beil. They also presented the January lesson ' "Decorative Stitches" at the home of Mrs. Robert Rea. Mrs. Raymond Cundall and Mrs. Grant Deterding volunteer ed to get the next lesson "Huck Weaving and Swedish Embroid ery." A lunch was served by the hostess. Wednesday evening a group enjoyed a no-host dinner at a popular Omaha restaurant. The dinner party was made up of Mr. and Mrs. Don Hansen, Mr. and Mrs. Al Linder, Mr. and Mrs- Bob Tritsch, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Chovanec, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bourne, Phyllis Bourck and Warren Kneer. George Jacobs entered the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha Saturday for obser vation. The patient has had two blood transfusions, and shows improvement. Air Force Man Receives Discharge Mr. and Mrs. Rob.ert Aim ar rived in the city Tuesday eve ning from Biloxi, Miss. Mr. Aim received his dis charge from the air force at Keisler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Miss., where he has been an instructor for the past four years. The couple plans to make their residence in Omaha, following a short trip to the East Coast where they wil visit his broth er and wife. Mrs. Aim is the former Donna Richards, daughter of Mrs. Ma rie Richards of this city, and their homecoming brings great pleasure to the family and friends. im i jrJimr ' .iji. ' Mynard Merry Maids Hold Meeting Linda Abel Reporter The Mynard Merry Maids met at the home of Art Toman Fri day and held demonstrations of the proper mixing and baking of sponge cake and cutting with the grain of materials. We judged sponge and angel food cakes brought to the meet ing by members. The meeting adjourned with the next meeting to be held at the home of Carolyn Vinduska, March 28. We are to bring a box and material to cover it for a first aid kit. Mrs-Toman and daughter, Pat served refreshments. Only two members were absent. Joe Bender of Weeping Water was a business call er in Plattsmouth Monday. Cooking Cuties Meet At Church Barbara Chandler News Reporter The Cooking Cuties met at the Nehawka Methodist Church with Susan Balfour presiding All members were present. Members of the Beginning Baking judged muffins, and for the next meeting are to make biscuits. Trays and dust cans are the project of "Let's Help Mother and Dad." Bird Club members are to look for migrating birds and are to make bird houses. In the ' Let's Sew class, Mrs. Yance Balfour showed how to tie knots, baste and use a thimble. Members brought sew ing boxes. For the next meeting they are to bring a sample of their work. Visitors were Mrs. John Chan dler and Mrs: James Chriswis ser. ' BIRTHS - Son Mr. and Mrs. John Kruse RFD South Omaha, are the parents of a son, born Feb. 24 at St. Mary's Hospital, Nebraska City. The baby weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces, and has been named Keith Leroy. Mrs. Kruse is the former Mary Frans. Grandpar ents are Mr. and Mrs. John Frans of Murray and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Kruse of Papillion. The couple has another child, a daughter, Theresa Ann. Daughter Mr. and Mrs. Vince Kelley of Omaha are the parents of a baby girl born, Feb. 26, at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha. Mrs. Kelley is the former Laura Mrasek of this city. The couple has four other children. Cass County Fancy Feeders The Cass County Fancy Feed ers Club met at the home of Connie and Jane Dietl on Feb. 21, 1957. For roll call we answered by giving what we feed our calves. A quiz was given on the parts of the calf. There were 11 members and 7 visitors present. The next meeting will be held at the home of Laraine and Larry Young on March 22, 1957. Mrs. Dietl served a very de licous lunch. Sandra Jameson News Reporter Murdock Couple Celebrates 54th Wedding Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. William Knaup of Murdock entertained a num ber of relatives at their home Sunday in honor of their 54th wedding anniversary. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Herr, Veryl and Eloise of Humboldt; Mrs. Char les Englert, Charlotte and Charles, Jr., of Ashland; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Knaup; Miss Roberta Knaup, and Rodney Knaup; Mrs. August Klemme, of Weeping Water and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Root, Diana and Stanley of Eagle. Guests were parents of the group. Members sang camp fire songs and everyone played games. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Smith; Mr. and Mrs. Leon Gansemer; Mr. and Mrs. Bob McKlusky; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fitzpatrick; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gregg; Mrs. Neva Read and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Hoschar.
