"High, Wide and Lonesome" by Hal Borland, was purchased with a donation of a group of friends in' memory of the late Nettie Mendenhall. "The F. B. I. Story" by Don Whitehead was sent to the li brary by the Rosensteil Foun dation. "Facts About Cancer" a large book with many illustrations was sent by the American Cancer Society. A Large assortment of pham phlets and information has also been received from the Heart Association. Citizens are free to avail them selves of the reading of these or other books from the library. Clem ents returned on Monday, via plane, from Rochester, where she underwent surgery at Mayo Clinic. She is feeling fine, it is reported. Mrs: Guy L. Surprise Party Honoring Elmer Hall on his birthday, his relatives gave him a surprise party, which really proved to be a surprise. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Parriott, and daughter, Char maine; Mr. and Mrs. Marion Wendt; Mr. and Mrs. Waite Hall; Mr. and Mrs. Gene Hall; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hall; Myrl Hall; and Mrs. "Lillie Wabradt. Mrs. Hall served cake, fruit salad and coffee for refreshments. All enjoyed the evening and guests departed with hearty congratu lations to their host. Mrs. Frank (Linda) Gustin is reported as gaining her strength and is now able, with the as sistance of her daughter, to walk across the room. She will be with Mrs. G. R. Eveland for some time for care and to regain her health before going to her own home. Mrs. Grace Blessing enter tained three of her nieces and other relatives for dinner Wed nesday, Feb. 20. The nieces, daughters of her late brother, Richard Harry Tolhurst, were: Mrs. Mary Gonzales, Silver Springs, Md., Mrs. Bobbie Han sen, Lincoln, son David and daughter, Candice; Mrs. Jeanne Volpe, Raymond; Mrs. Arthur Norris. and daughter, Cathie, of Avoca, and Mrs. Norris's father, George Blessing, Jr. and Mrs. Ruth Monning, Elmwood. Mrs. Gail McDonald just fin ished quilting a new quilt this week. She had quite a group of quiiters two days. Those irom away were: Mrs. Bryan Mc Don ald, Mrs. JLacey McDonald and Mrs. J. F. Mills, all of Mur dock. The ladies all enjoy quill- ling and just : finished one last week tor Mrs. Blanche Kuehn. Mr.-and Mrs. Wendall Cook are the proud parents of a baby boy, born at 2:48 a. m. Tues day, Feb. 19. His name is Jay Scott. His parental grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Orest P. Cook, Elmwood, and maternal grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Carlson, Lincoln. Mother and son are reported as getting along fine. Gloria Jean Cook is very happy with her new brother. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Zoz drove to Grand Island, Sunday, Feb. 17, and her father, William Coat man, accompanied them to visit Mrs. Mary Gollaher, his sister. Center Club The Center Club met at the home of Mrs. Helen , Charling on Friday, Feb. 15, with seven members present. The meeting was conducted, by the president. Mrs. Margaret Parsell. Reading of the minutes was by secre tary, Hazel Kunz. Dorothy Kunz and Olive Hali had charge of the program. A delicious lunch was served by the hostess. The March meeting will be held at the home of Dorothy Kunz. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hall; Mr. and Mrs .Marion Wendt; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Parriott and daugh ter Charmaine were supper guests at the home of the par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hall Sunday evening, Feb. 17. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Thorns and chil dren were Sunday evening visit ors. 4-H Nwes Saturday, Feb. 16, eight mem bers of tne West Side Rooters 4-H Club, and four Dads went to Fremont to attend a Hamp shire judging contest. They jud ged four classes of hogs: bred gilts, open gilts, boars and mar ket hogs. It was very interesting and educational experience for tne 4-Hers as well as for the dads. The following members went to Fremont: Donnie Hollenbeck, Arlen Hollenbeck, Myron Hollen beck, Bruce Vogt, Richard Vogt, John Mendenhall, Gale Miller, and Gerald Fredenberg. The four days were: Morris Menden hall, Raymond Vogt, Donald Hollenbeck and Donald Fred enberg. John Mendenhall placed third in the swine judging contest at Fremont Feb. 16, in a field cf 120 contestnts. He scored 181 points out of a' possible 200 points. Fredine Engelking News Reporter.
