J , k- ' Plattsmouth and Belevue Tuesday night locked horns in a dizzy scoring battle which found the lead changing hands several times but the Blue Dev ils missed two final second scor ing opportunities and Bellevue squeaked to a 57-55 victory. The Devils now have a 10-7 mark. With 20 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Bellevue held a 4 point advantage when Devil center Bob Beverage was fouled Beverage swished the nets on both shots but in the short action Eagle Dumps Alvo; Clinches County Crown ALVO Eagle Friday night pounded out a 41-37 victory over Alvo to clinch the Cass 'County Conference basketball crown with six wins against no de feats. The game was closely contest ed all the way with Eagle hold ing a slim margin of 12-9 at the first quarter mark, and 27-25 at intermission. Larry Walberg put the zip in Eagle's attack scoring 22 points for the evening's best in dividual effort as his club ran its season standing to 11-5. A. Neben tossed nine to lead Alvo while the Roelosfz broth ers counted eight points each. Eagle held a tremendous spread in the field goal depart ment connecting for 17 while Alvo hit on 9. But the hometown team tripped the nets for 19 charity strikes to 7 for the invaders. Eagle reserves also continued unbeaten in loop play by turning in a 45-29 win over Alvo re serves. Coach John Adkins' Blue Dev ils couldn't find the range in quarter No. 1 for love nor mon ey and were scoreless until 3 minutes and 15 seconds were left on the clock in the first period. But then they exploded for 14 points to pull within 2 coun ters of Bellevue, 16-14, at the end of one quarter of play. The team maintained its advantage Devils To Play University High On Friday Night Plattsmouth's Blue Dev ils have only one cage game scheduled this weekend but that a Friday night go a gainst tough University High of Lincoln. The game is scheduled to get underway at 8 p. m. and is to be played in Lin coln. University High is on the top class B teams in state competition and features the "terrific" jump shots of Marv Bauer. Plattsmouth coach John Adkins said University High boasts a good, sound ball club and, playing on their home floor, could prove a might rugged opponent. The Blue Devils will be idle Saturday night and are not schedulad to return to action until the following Friday when they again jour ney to' Lincoln for a joust with Southeast. Avoca Spurts In Final Half To Take Win AVOCA Avoca made its fin al 1956-37 basketball appearance before the home lolks a triumph ant one by whipping Walton, 54-46. But Avoca had to come from behind in the tinal two quarters to claim the win. Trailing 29- 27 at intermission, the Avocans spurted in the third quarter to outscore Walton, 14-9 and go up. 41-33, at the third pole. The hometowners kept the de fensive lid on Walton's attack in the final frame to tuck away the triumph. Avoca hit for 13 points to Walton's 8 in the final frame. Sharpshooting Gay Bose toss ed in 22 points to lead Avoca to victory with C. Carsten add ing 14 and D. Johnson dunking 10. L. Havemen did a fine job of ball hawknig for the winners J. Rodway hit 14 for Walton and M. Booth whipped the strings with 13 points. Avoca hit 18 field goals to 16 for Walton and found the range for 18 of 28 free throws while Walton was canning 14 of 18. The victory stretches Avoca's record to 10-7 for the season. In the preliminary, Avoca re serves sneaked by Walton, 33-32, in an overtime contest which was broken up by Avoca's John Knake who tallied in the final seconds. Avoca trailed Walton 18-13 at intermission but pulled in front after the rest period. Voyles hit 13 for Avoca' and Cooley 9 for Walton. The Avoca girls . volleyball team waltzed over Walton, 27-13 with K. Kepler counting 14 points. They have won 12 and lost 6. The Avocans also whipped Louisville in a prior appearance 29-10. M. Plattsmouth bombed back In the third to sneak into a 48 46 lead, but then hit a cold streak in the final quarter as Bellevue outscored the Devils 11 to 7. Although Plattsmouth outscor ed Bellevue from the field, 21- 18, the host club picked up its margin of victory at free throw land by hitting 21 of 30 while the Devils could connect on but 13 of 21. Plattsmouth's Blue Devils breezed Friday night to an easy 67-27 victory over Ralston in Ak-Sar-Ben Conference play but saw their final hops exploded for a two-way tie in Twin Riv ers Conferences when Falls City beat them 61-37 Saturday night. Playing their "poorest" game of the season against Falls City, the Devils dropped behind their shorter opponents at the first quarter mark and that, for all practical purposes was the ball game. Falls City, with its tallest player standing only 5-10, turn ed on the gas and simply out hustled the invading Plattsmouth quintet. With Poage hitting 27 and Gibson finding the mark for 28 points, Falls City held a 30- 16 halftime advantage and was in front 42-25 at the third quar ter. Larry Long topped Platts mouth pointmakers with 13 as the Devils tasted defeat for the second time in TR play. With a 3-2 mark, the Devils hopes for a share in the. title now rest on the chances of Beatrice stumb ling in one of two remaining games. Hollenberg Farm Brings $45,500 At Sale Saturday Sale was held Saturday of the 240 acre farm belonging to the estate of Emm aHoIlenberg,. de ceased. This farm Is located a mile south and a quarter of a mile west of Murray. The sale was held by Charles Boedeker, executor of the es tate of Emma Hollenberg, de ceased. The land was purchased by Dr. John Gilmore of Santa Mon ica; Calif.,, for the sum of $45,- 500, or a little under $190 an acre an excellent price. 'Business7 Up In County Traffic Cases "Business" was heavy and of fenses varied as County Judge Raymond J. Case heard char ges and levied fines against traf fic offenders in county court this week. Twenty drivers paid fines and court costs on charges ranging rom failure to stop at a stop sign, speeding to over gross. Francis Duane Klute, Boone, la., paid $54 for over gross; Gary L. Carlton, Ashland, was assessed $29 for possession of an alcoholic beverage by a min or; Jake James, Church Point, la., paid $54 for overweight on a group of axles. H. J. Powell, Durant. Okla., paid $54 for overweight on a group of axles; Herman Novak, Nebraska City, was fined $19 for speeding; and Marvin J Fl veins, Kansas City, Mo., $28 $54 for overload on axles. Lester Edwards, Auburn, paid $19 for speeding; Claude I. Met- calf, Omaha, $54 for overweight on a group of axles; Charles Flveins, ' Kansas City, Mo., $14 for reciprocity violation; and Ed ward Young, Mound City, Mo., $14 for speeding. Nels J. ' Beverage hit 16 points for Plattsmouth alid Ken Dasher and Tom Winscot added 12 points each. But Bellevue's Ken Rhod-j us struck for 22 points and high scoring honors. Blue Devils reserves contin ued their winning ways by smacking Bellevue reserves, 53- 37. It was win No. 11 against j 1 loss for the little Devils as Al Dasher pulled the trigger on 22 points. Hilfiker potted 14 for Bellevue reserves. turn If Beatrice should lose one, then four teams, Crete, Nebras ka City, Beatrice and Platts mouth, would share in the TR championship. The victory and loss gives the local five a 10-6 mark for the 1956-57 campaign. Against Ralston, Plattsmouth zipped to a 22-9 first quarter lead and upped it to 32-16 at tne half. Bob Beverage topped scorers with 18 points followed by Long who pocketd 14. The Devils now rest in the 4-2 niche in Ak-Sar- Ben play. Plattsmouth's sparkling re serve quintet racked up victor ies 9 and 10 over the weekend with triumphs over Ralston and Fails City, reserves. With Bob Hutton's 14 points leading the way, the baby Dev ils pounded out a 76-33 win over outclassed Ralston and then nip ped Falls City, 40-34. Hutton a- gain spearheaded the attack with 12 points against Falls City.' Allio Leonard has returned home after a short visit in Cal ifornia with his son, Lawrence and family. Mr! and Mrs. Herman Wol farth have been vacationing in California most of the winter and plan to stay until warm weather. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Vest are the proud parents of a baby boy, weighing 8 pounds, 4 ounces. The boy has been named Carl Henry and was born on Feb. 14. There are two older girls . in the family. Mrs. Vest was formerly Dolly McCulloch. Mr. and Mrs. Harry McCulloch are the maternal grandparents. A fire broke out at the Easter home southeast of Murray last Sunday afternoon. The Murray fire department was called to help extinguish the blaze. It was a machine shed and grain bin Dr. John Gilmore flew in from California to purchase the Hoi linburg farm which was sold at public auction last Saturday aft ernoon. A social gathring for the benefit of the Heart Fund will be held at Dr. Tyson's home from 2 to 4 ; p.-m. Contribu tions will be appreciated. Ralph Meyers drove to Ar kansas uity last weekend to visit at the home of his daugh ter and family. While there he visited with a cousin who is quite ill. Tuesday Mr. Clark accompanied Mrs. Edmonds, , Gilbrt Jr., Alvin and Keith to Torrington, Wyo., where they joined Mr. Edmonds who is working there. The family had lived here since Dec. 1. On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. James Kitchen of Lincoln met Mr. and Mrs. Oren Pollard at Havelock and they spent the day with Mr. and Mrs.Arthur Pol lard and family of Wayne. Robert Pollard, who recently broke his arm, is still in the hospital at St. Paul. The upper part of his arm was shattered and it was necessary . to place a pin through a bone that had broken off at the elbow.
