Family night at the Methodist Church Tuesday included a cov ered dish supper which was fol lowed by films on Colorado shown by Mr. and Mrs. Hal Han sen, Mrs. Fred Hansen and Mrs. Hal Hansen were on the pro gram, committee and Mrs. Mel vin Sturm assisted with the kit chen committee. Philip and Mary Owen of Lin coln came Thursday to spend a week with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Power. Dak., where he attended funer al services Tuesday for his broth er, William, who passed away, Jan. 19. Mr. Shrader's son, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Shrader, Jr., of Sioux Falls, S. Mrs. Bob Akins and children of Omaha were guests Saturday night and Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Matt Akins. Mrs. John Ak ins and children left Monday morning for Seco, Calif., to join Mr. Akins and they will make their home there. Mrs. Carrie Wadell, 83, was improved following an illness. Miss Evelyn Wolph received word that Mrs. John Woodward and infant son had left Lincoln General hospital. Mrs. Wood ward was doing well after a serious heart operation in the fall. Mr. and Mrs. William Rosen crans and son, South Bend, were guests at the smorgasbord Sun day of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wun derlich and family. Eddie Wun derlich took treats to school Fri day on his 7th birthday. His parents entertained at dinner in Omaha that evening in his hon or and their guests were their children, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Gordon of Omaha and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wunderlich. Mr. and Mrs. Henning John son accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Bob Johnson of Talmage to Lin coln where they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Johnson and Mrs. Annette Benson. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hild, Mur ray, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hild, Plattsmouth, Fred Hansen and Catherine were guests Sunday evening of Mrs. Charlotte Ni day and Mrs. F. A. Hansen. Mrs. Melvin Sturm spent sev eral weeks with her father, H. W. Steinmeyer at Clatonia and also at the Bryan Memorial Hos pital in Lincoln where he stayed 10 days for tests, x-rays and observations. Mr. Steinmeyer is now in a nursing home to be near his doctor at Crete. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Sturm spent the day Wednesday with him. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Sturm and son, Jimmy and Douglas, Sioux City, were guests Friay night, Saturday and overnight of the Melvin Sturms. Sunday and ov ernight they were guests of the Harry Metcalf family of Lin coln. They returned home Mon day by way of Omaha, where Mr. Sturm had gone on bus iness. Mr. and Mrs. Arno Wessel and grandson, Stevie, Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. William Baier, Avoca, were dinner guests Sun day of Mrs. Mary Wessel. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Ross were guests at a card party Sunday evening at the Allison Balfour home near Nebraska City. j Mr. and Mrs. Errett White, Mr. and Mrs. James Kitchen, all of Lincoln were dinner guests Sunday of the Oren Pollards. It was the first time Mrs. White had been here following a long illness. Mrs. Ruth B. Pollard, Mrs. Josephine St. John and Leonard were afternoon callers and lunch guests. Mr. and Mrs. George Davis, Nebraska City, were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. William Getchius. Their guests Tuesday were Mr. and Mrs. Leo nard Navrkal and sons of Ne braska City. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Poll ard were guests Sunday after noon of the Oren Pollards. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Tucker spent several days the past week with Mr. and Mrs. Clark Kup cinger and family of Kansas City. A benefit quilting for the Wo man's Club was held at the home of Mrs. Harvey Barkhursf Wednesday. Included were sev en members of the United Breth- ern Aid and Mrs. Frank Linder, Mrs.Eugene Fitch, Mrs. Sadie Shrader, Mrs. Martin Ross, Mrs. Floyd Joerger and Mrs. Will Ost. Mrs. John Barkhurst assisted with the dinner. New President Presides At Club Meeting Mrs. Ivan E. Armstrong rhone 1502 The Junior Fairlanders Ex tension Club met Tuesday, Jan. 22, at the home of Mrs. Roy Long near Murdock. Eleven members were present. The new president, Mrs. Del bert Humston opened the meet ing with reading the Club Col lect. The group sang "America the Beautiful", led by Mrs. Ken neth Roeber. The new year books were distributed and the annual "Pennies for Friendship" collec ted. The lesson on mental health was given by Mrs. Sam Long and Mrs. John Jones. The host ess served lunch at the close of the meeting. The Ashgrove H's 4-H Club met Friday evening Jan. 2, at the Victor Miller home. The president, Marvin Miller, called the meeting to order, there was a discussion about a roller skat ing party. The boys made plans for "Gardens for Health" and they made garden posters to be ex hibited at the Cass County fair. The girls made wrist pincush ions. Carol Ann Miller demonstra ted making cinnamon toast. Mrs. Miller served the group ice cream and cake. The next meeting will be at the Fred Stickney home. Roger Hammer News Reporter Mrs. Wilson Lambert was call ed to York Tuesday by the sud den illness of her mother, Mrs. Harry Carlson, who had suffer ed a cerebral hemmorhage. Mrs. Lambert remained with her mother until she passed a way at a hospital there Thurs day. Mr. Lambert and little sons, and his mother, Mrs. Mable Lambert, and Willis Lambert of Greenwood went out Sunday to attend the funeral, there were also relatives from Lincoln and Prairie Home. Mr. Carlson of York and Mrs. George Parsons of Denver are spending a few days with their daughter and sister, Mrs. Wilson Lambert, Mr. Lambert and sons. Donald Hammer and Earl Ballou returned Friday evening from a two weeks stay in Den ver where they had visited Earl's sister and spent some time . sightseeing. The funeral of Mrs. A. C. Hinkle was held at the Metho dist Church in Louisville Mon day afternoon and several South Ashland residents attended. John Jones and Sam Long served as pall bearers. The Hinkle family formerly lived where the Clinton Jones family now lives and had many friends in that vicinity. Mr. and Mrs. Don Sandy of York were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Nelson. On Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. Nelson and their guests joined a group of relatives at the Orville Sandy home in Green wood for a birthday party for Mr. Sandy and Harold Richards. Others in the group were Mr, and Mrs. Ben Sandy and daugh ters of David City, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Nelson of Lincoln and Mrs. Harold Richards. Mrs. Blanche Schildmeyer of Lomita, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Glen Marolf and Mrs.. L. J. Walradt were Wednesday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Bach-man. Ivan E. Armstrong, accompan ied Rev. B. F. Parnell to Lin coln Wednesday where they at tended a Town and Country church conference at the college activities building at the college of agriculture. As they returned home they stopped at the Vet erans Hospital where they called on Roy Everman and Floyd Root. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Dreamer of Alvo spent Wednesday eve ning with Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Fedde and family. Sunday guests at the Fedde home were Mr. and Mrs. Chris Stark and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Stark cf Omaha. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Liles and family visited Mrs. Liles' aunt, Mrs. Charles Wagner, in the Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Monday. . SIM New Pastor Arrives At Murray Church Mrs. Neva Read Phone 6021 Rev. and Mrs. Victor O. Schwarz of Enid, Okla., have moved into the Christian parson age. Rev. Schwarz will take over the Christian Church service next Sunday Feb. 3. Church will begin at Jf:30 and Sunday school at 10:30. , Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Rogers and Mrs. Margaret Brendel were Sunday dinner guests at the. home of Mr. and Mrs. Reuel Sack. Theodore Emmert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Emmert had his tonsils removed last Monday morning at the St. Mary's Hos pital in Nebraska City. Mr. James E. Jenkins is quite ill at his home after suffering a heart attack. Mrs. Fred Hild had the mis fortune to fall over in a chair one evening last week and suf fered a cracked rib which has proved quite uncomfortable. Little Ruthie Read celebrated her sixth birthday last Tuesday with some little friends in to play with her in the afternoon. The little girls were: Jackie, Jo line and Janet Radke and Janet Nolte. Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Schleip and family visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Earnest Schleip and famliy at Springfield. Some of the friends of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Smith are hav ing a miscellaneous shower hon oring them Friday evening at 7:30 at the -. Christian Church basement. The public is invited. Mrs. Clara Arnold of Platts mouth was visiting over the weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lancaster. Mrs. Mary Eppings of Lincoln was a Sunday dinner guest at the Lan caster home. The Pleasant Hill Club met at the home of Mrs. Leonard Lutz last Wednesday afternoon. There were 10 members pres ent. Election of officers was held with Mrs. Bill Klemme as president; Mrs. Clarence Jacob son as vice president and Mrs. J. L. Young as Secretary and treasurer. Mr.CarJ Vest and Leonard Lutz drove to Enid, Okla., with a truck last Sunday to move the Christian minister's family to Murray. They returned home late Monday night. Mary Lou Lutz has secured a job at the McTier Commission Company at the Omaha Stock Yards. She is a secretary for Mr. McTier. A card party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Gansemer last Saturday night with four tables running. High prizes went to Mrs. Marie Ward and Fred Meisinger.
