Casey, attorney No. 3513 Jan. 31, Feb. 7, 14, 21, 19i7 THE PLATTSMOUTH, NEBRASKA, SEMI-WEEKLY JOURNAL Thursday, January 31, 1957 isms Peace will not come from charters or peace treaties, but only when the peoples of the world are willing to live and let live on an equal basis. That's the, one big , reaaon why we hate to see our government con tinue to spread American tax payers dollars over the globe, In our recently concluded trip through the great southwest, we saw plenty of evidence that much of this money could better be spent in soil conservation work in the dry and parched lands of western Kansas, Okla homa, and the great plains of Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. Water storage facilities, plus agricultural practices to reduce erosion is the only answer to an area where less than a quart er of an inch of rain has fell in more than a year. Thousands of acres of once lush grazing land is bare but for cactus, sage brush and a few buzzards. Only in a few areas are cattle found grazing where a few years ago they could be counted in the thou sands. Prolonged drougth is taking its toll, not only in the ranch areas but in the towns and villages where numerous empty buildings stare as you drive through, although the lar ger cities seen to be bustling with business and continued ex pansion. We, therefore, could only re joice with them rather than com plain that we drove through heavy reins, slush and some snow in New Mexico, Arizona, and California, during our only 'escape from this emporium in nearly a year. We did find some sunshine for a few days during our absence, CLEMENTS & CLEMENTS Attorneys Elmwood, Nebraska NOTICE OF PROBATE IN THE COUNTY COURT OF CASS COUNTY, NEBRASKA To all persons interested in the estate of Ernest F. PAGE SEVEN but on the whole, weather was little better than that which we had left in eastern Nebraska. Of course, we are not speaking cf temperatures that arrived here following our departure and that greeted us on our return. These sub-zero readings can send a chill down one's spine, but so can those on the west coast when the mercury gets down to around 50. degrees. In spite of the six below reading the morn- ing this is being written, there's an invigorating ozone in the chill air that puts a spring in your step, although those with out door plumbing will probaly not ' agree with us. Miss Ida Patton writes in to -inquire if Flipper Fanny, our dainty little contour twister, also took off on a winter' vaca- " tion. All we know is that Fanny called in to say she would be away for a few weeks, telling J us that a gal just cannot keep up with her civic activities a mong the younger set when the k thermometer reads to 20 below, the wooded drives are knee deep - with snow, and one has a mor bid fear of carbon monoxide. However, we are happy to for ward Miss Patton's dedicated prose to Fanny at Las Vegas ( in care of the Flamingo where -we're sure we saw this wise cracking little package making ' the rounds of gambling tables, . bars and fat bank rollswith moderate to phenomenal suc cess. Titled "Fly Around Fanny," Miss Patton's verse follows: Now, dear Fly-around Fan ny's the busiest, girl in her flit ting from hither to yon; as she twitters at this and she twitters at that, she's an artist in mull .. and chiffon. , : Then she finds that the curtain, which you have just fixed, must be all put of line, don't you see; so she twitches it here, -and she twitches it there, until it's twitched as it just ought to 1 be. Then the lamp she must move just a tenth of an inch, for it's light must be right and just so; and that tenth of an inch is im portant you see, just the dif ference between weal and woe. Then the antimacasser comes in for a pull, or a push or a twist or a twirl; and the daven port cushions get patted a bit by this f littery, fluttery girl. Now, do you have a Fly-a-rcund Fanny at home, who can put everything in its place? If you have, don't disturb her, but let her keep on, and in fact, offer her an embrace. For its better for neatness and order to be than for discord and error to reign; so your Fly around Fanny deserves an em brace and a kiss, so just kiss her again. Thanks, Miss Patton But, at our age, we'll give her just one of those fatherly little pecks.. RRF. Sarpy County Fears Inroads Of Omaha Plans Residents of Bellevue and Sar-; py county have been stirred by.",..: plans reported from Lincoln that a measure may be introduced in the unicameral to set aside 5,000 acres to be surveyed to" build a state park . -extending.. from the south limits of Omaha, ' to the north limits of Bellevue along the banks of the Missouri would extend 300 feet east of Bellevue boulevard to the Mis souri River. Eastern Sarpy county resi dents express fear that "too ; much land is already off the tax list due to state parks, mili tary bases and public power plants". The viewpoint of the support ers of the move is that the land would also serve to create a greater area for the expan sion of manufacturing plants in the greater Omaha area. It is urged that this area might serve., as docking facilities in future years, when Chicago is opened to shipping from overseas, through the St. Lawrence water way and great Lakes,- give this part of the west a great advan tage in use of the Missour Riv- er traffic to St. Louis and thence ' to Chicago. This suggestion also opens the possibilities of Missouri River points being a part of this ship ping program, and would also include Plattsmouth, Nebraska City and other points along the river. -
