Georgia Gardner sur prised her husband, Fred, on his birthday Thursday evening when sixteen guests arrived at the Gardner home to wish him a happy birthday. Guests played pinochle and prizes were won by Charles Luk us, Mrs. Wayne Green, Elmer Gootchner and Charles Jeschke. The honored guests received ! ins many gifts and at the close of the evening Mrs Gardner ser- ; ved lunch. Sergeant and Mrs. Charles Hastings of Nebraska City were supper guests at the Gardner home and were party guests. Projects Outlined For 4-H Group , Roger ilammer News Reporter The Ashgrove H's 4-H Club met Friday afternoon at the Peter Stander home. New offic ers for the coming year were selected as follows: President, Marvin Miller; vice president, Mary Ann Stander; secretary, Elizabeth Hammer and news reporter, Roger Ham mer. The boys will have gardens for their projects, and continue the study of birds. The project for the girls will be sewing on the machine, also cooking. The next meeting will be Nov. 23. Mrs-. Mrs. Spangler To Leave For Ceylon An Omaha woman, a former Cass County resident, is pre paring for a trip to Ceylon where she will represent the Country Women's Council of the Tinitpd States at the triennial i conference of the Associated Country Women of the World. Mrs. Everett Spangler, chair man of the United States group, will meet with women from S5 countries represented at the con ference Dec. 5 through 15 at Peradeniya College in- Ceylon. The organization stresses im nrnvement of rural living and study in the fields of homemak ing, health and education. Mrs financier has been- hon ored at numerous parties and recently spoke with anticipation about the trip to the Gcldenrod Study Club of Cass County of which she is a member, at their October meeting. Local Women Attend Lutheran Synod In Omaha This Month United Lutheran Church Wo men of the Evangelical Luth eran Synod in the Central States j of the United Lutheran Church in America held their second annual convention, Oct. 19-22 at Kountz Memorial Lutheran Church, Omaha with nearly four hundred delegates and visitors from Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas present. The four-day meet opened Fri day, with registration. Mrs. Er nest Tonsing of Topeka, Kans., president of United Lutheran Church Women in the Central ! States, presided. "Seek" was the theme of the convention. The first night of the session was devoted to Midland College Fremont, with its president, Dr. Paul Dieckman, speaking. Sat urday evening, Dr. Clemens H. Zeidler, president of the Evan gelical Lutheran Synod, Central States spoke at the 6;30 dinner. Highlight of the convention was a missionary program Sun day afternoon and evening with missionaries from China, India, Puerto Rico, and Liberia par ticipating. Dr. Edith Eykamp, missionary on furlough from In dia, appeared on the convention program several times. Miss Josephine Darmstaetter i assistant executive secretary of Philadelphia, Pa., was another outstanding guest speaker. Workshops on membership, education,' christian service and offerings were held. Mrs. Joseph Puis and Mrs. Fred Wehrbein, delegates from Christ Lutheran Women's Mis sionary Society, attended the convention three days. Other missionary members who attend ed the program on Sunday fea- turing visiting missionaries were Mrs. Glen Kraejrer. Mrs. John Hild: Mrs.' Henrv Eneelkemeier ! and Mrs. , Forrest Engelkemeier. Wedding Anniversary Dinner Honors Mr. And Mrs. ludwick WEEPING WATER (Special) Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Ludwick were honored on their twenty fifth wedding anniversary Sun day with a progressive dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Renos Ander son, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Eidenmiller, Mr. and Mrs. Clif ford Cooper, Mr. and Mrs. Vin cent Rehmeier, and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Groesser met at the Ludwick nome at C p. m. The first course was served at the Eidenmiller home. Flow ers were the centerpiece. Soup was served on silver doilies and fruit cocktail. The main course wTas then served at the Groesser home. The dining room was decorated in a color scheme of pink and silver. A huge silver bell adorn ed the center of the room with pink streamers. Pink carna tions and tall candles graced the center of the tabe with pink and silver nut cups and place cards also being used. Mr.and Mrs. Legion Ladies Have Hallowe'en Patty, Plan Holiday Projects The Auxiliary to Hugh J. Kearns American Legion Post No. 56 met in regular session Thursday evening, President Mrs. Don Warga, presided with ten members and nine officers present. In the absence of rehabili- i tation Chairman, Ida Patton, the president reported that two aprons donated by Mrs. Lloyd Fitch and Mrs. W. C. Maston had been presented to the gift shop at the Veteran's Hospital. She also reported that Mrs. W. C. Maston and Mrs. Helen Wool cott had dressed two dolls com plete with wardrobes for the gift shop. 1 Membership chairman Mrs. Eugene Vroman reported 110 paid up members for 1957. A lovely two-tiered anniver sary cake,., decorated with a 25 and white roses with silver trim made a beautiful center- j piece. j Mrs. Ludwick cut and served the cake and Mr .Ludwick pour ed and served the coffee; The couple was presented ith a gift from the group. The five couples then escorted the honored couple to their home where candy and nuts .were ser ved. Mr. and Mrs. Ludwick sur prised the couples with gifts for making their anniversary a cherished memory. Junior Chairman Sonhia Wol- ever reported that the juniors were holding a Hallowe en party and are making plans for a Christmas party. .The meeting was closed with the retiring of the colors. Following the meeting, games wjere played in true Hallowe'en 'fashion with Mrs. Sophia Wol ever and Mrs. DeForest Perry in charge. Following the games prizes were drawn from a big grab bag. Mrs. Arthur Sweet of Ne braska City, president of the district, preside over the ses sions. Mrs. Howard R. Brinker, Omaha, wife of Bishop Brinker, was special guest of honor. She is honorary president of the auxiliary. Speakers in the morning were Mrs. Carl Humphrey, Mullen, I state president, who spoke on the "Overall Picture of the Synod". Mrs. C. M. All members of the immediate family were present with the exception of a grandson, Jim Davis, midshipman at Annapolis Md., who will not get leave until Christmas. Wendell Friest Will Appear In University Concert Trombonist Wendell Friest, Plattsmouth, will be one of the features soloists at 7:30 p. m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at the annual fall concert of Phi Mu Sinfonia, professional men's music frater nity at the University of Ne braska. The public is invited to attend, and there is no admission charge. Among the highlights will be the Gregorian Mass, the litur gical chant of the Roman Cath olic Church which was named after Pope Gregory 1 and under whom it received its final ar rangement.
