Sand Correspondent Phone 2708! Representing Nehawka at the district eight convention at Te cumseh on Saturday, October 6 were 17 girls, four chapter moth ers and Mrs.:-Helen Friedli, ad visor. ',;- Those attending left Nehawka early Saturday morning with Mr. Duane Everett, F.F.A. sponsor, driving the school bus. After ar riving and registering, the girls were served cookies and milk in the homemaking department. After a welcome from the super intendent of the Tecumseh high school and the Tecumseh F.H.A. president, Sharon Ehlers from Nehawka was installed as dis trict eight president and presid ed over the two hour meeting. Sharon Ehlers, Nehawka; Sha ron Ramge, "Plattsmouth; and Diane Schulz, Lewiston gave a skit about the national conven tion at Chicago jand Joyce Brock of Tecumseh led in group sing ing. Following a luncheon at the Community Building, a talent show was held in the high school auditorium with gifls from var ious chapters participating. The regular meeting of the F.H.A. was held at the home ec. house Wednesday. The pro gram, parliamentary procedure. was given by Jane Dietl, Judy Surface and Norman Ross. Darlene Murdoch, Mary Lou Briley and Sharon Dodson ex plained the junior, dhapter and state degrees. There was a dis cussion on money making pro ects. Plans were made for a party late in October. Mrs. Elmer Stoll, Mrs. Martin Ross and Mrs. Floyd Joerger held a panel discussion on "Christ mas Decorations- in Nehawka' Wednesday evening when the Nehawka Flower clulp(,inet at the home of Mrs. Guyj ,Murdoch. I was decided to have a commun ity Christmas tree and offer prizes for decorated windows and lawns. Members exchanged plants, slips and seeds and displayed flowers from their gardens. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Linder, Mr. and Mrs. Eu gene Fitch, Mrs. Elmer Philpot and Oren Pollard. Peony roots, which were pur chased by members from the James Kitchen gardens were dis tributed by Mrs. Oren Pollard. Refreshments were served. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 for Mrs. Effie Morrow Banning, .77, of Abingdon. Va. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Tucker. She passed away Monday at her home in Abingdon. She lived here many years ago. She is an aunt of Mrs. Tucker, Melvin Sturm, Mrs. Chester Stone and Sheldon Mitchell. Burial was at Mt. Pleasant where her husband Charles Banning was buried in 1908. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Clarice Spindell, Abingdon, Va.; Miss Jennie Ban ning, Saginaw, Mich.; Mrs. Ha zel Havlovic, Cincinnati, Ohio, two brothers, Dr. Bert Morrow, Seward, Nebr. and Dr. Milton Morrow. Oklahoma. Dinner guests Monday of Mrs. Amelia Balfour were Mrs. Maude Giles, Mrs. Elizabeth Straub and Miss Mary Zimmer er, all of Nebraska City, Mrs. Emma Nutzman" and Mildred.' Mr. and Mrs. Marion Tucker received word that Mickey Kup pinger of Kansas City fell from a truck when he was on a hay ride with the Sunday school children and broke a bone in his hand. He is . at St. Lukes hos pital in Kansas City, Mo. The Kuppingers visit at the Tucker home frequently. Mrs. Hall Pollard called at the Lee Faris home at Union Wed nesday. Mr. Faris is ill with pneumonia. Clifford Trotter is seriously ill at Veterans hospital in Lincoln. Miss Evelyn Wolph, who fell last week fractured three ribs. Guests At Wendt Home In Murdock Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Baum- gartner ' of California visited friends in Murdock one day last week, v Mrs..Alvin Bornemeier return ed home on Wednesday from the hospital, where she spent a num ber of days in traction. Mr: and Mrs. Walter Story of Oregon visited friends and rela tives several days last week. They had been in Kansas where they attended' the funeral of Mrs. Story's1 father. The hduse guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wendt for two weeks was Mrs. Wendt's aunt from California. She was Mrs. Theor Burdorf. At present she is visiting other friends and relatives. On Saturday they took her to Lincoln where they had dinner with Mr. and Mrs. How ard Wittmus. Mrs. Wittmus was formerly Mildred Schlahoff. The Lions club met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Si Schla hoff on Thursday evening with 15 members present. Mr. and Mrs. Arlo Stock and family went to Cozad on Friday where they will spend the week end. Mrs. Rev. Heim was quite sick again last weekend, but is much improved at this time. Mr. and Mrs. John Earl of Torrington, Wyoming, have been visiting his sister, Mrs. Lindell and other relatives this past week. They will spend part of next week visiting friends and relatives at Syracuse. Mr. and Mrs. William Rikli left Tuesday morning for Okla homa where they will visit rela tives at Enid and Drummond. Mrs. Charles Kupke has been quite sick this past week. Obituary Of Lulu May Ruby Lula May Ruby, native of Ohio and resident of Cass County for 74 years, passed away on Fri day, October 5th, 1956 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clif ford Cooper near Weeping Water, Nebraska. Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. J. Doty," she was born January 15, ;880;at Holmesville, Ohio. She came to Cass County Ne braska with her parents, three brothers and one sister in 1882. They "settled North East of Weep ing Water where she lived until Jan. -18, 1898 when she was united ;hi marriage to Edward Martin Ruby. She spent her en tire life on the farm. Her hob bie was flowers, which was well expressed in her home and sur roundings. Lula spent her entire life in service to mankind. She was a devoted wife, mother, and a proud loving grandmother and great - grandmother, always thinking of others first. Mrs. Ruby was a member of the order of Eastern Star and the Royal Neighbors. Her husband, Edward Ruby preceeded her in death on April 22, 1954. Left to mourn her passing are three sons, Virgil of Nehawka, Nebr.; Floyd of Shenandoah, la.; and Bernard of Nebraska City, Nebr. A daughter, Mrs. Clifford Cooper of Weeping Water, seven grandchildren, s'even great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mable Mickle of Lincoln, Nebr. and a host of other relatives and friends.
