Mr. and Mrs. John Compton spent Thursday evening in Oma ha at the University Hospital where her father, Mr. Grubb va.s in surgery. Mrs. Emma Roepke, Bertrand spent several days with relatives tere last week. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dankleff, Mrs. Kristine Sulling, Miss Ma thiide Madsen spent Saturday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Don Lackey at Lincoln. Herman Fiddelky, Long Is land, N. Y., spent several days at the Herman Bradencamp home this week. The Avoca Firemen sponsored a card party at the town hall Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hennings came home Friday from Cali fornia where they spent the past two weeks visiting relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ehmke and Marlene returned last week from Richboro, Penn., where assuheatre Plattsmouth they visited CpL and Mrs. Har lan Ehmke where" he is taking a course in radar. Robert Hallstrom, William Johnson, Harold Gregg left for Canada on a fishing trip Friday. Neighbors surprised Miss Kate Shoemaker Tuesday on her birthday. Those present were Mrs. Joe Behrns, Mrs. Joe Aech bacher, Mrs. Henry Dankleff, Mrs. Kristine Sailing, Miss Ma thilda Madsen, Mrs. John Mohr, Mrs. Bryan Seegal, Mrs. Wil liam Wulf, Mrs. Ella Wulf, Mrs. Henry Maseman. Relatives met at the Arley Hill home to observe the September birthday Sunday. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ped erson of Goehner, Mr. and Mrs. John Mohr, Greg and Judy Mohr, Mrs. Anna Mohr, Mrs. Clara Ruhge, and grandson, Johnny Stutzman, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Pederson and Steve. The Avoca Lions Club met Tuesday evening at the cafe. Ray Larson of Plattsmouth was the guest speaker on "Old Coins." Four Corner Club met Wed nesday with Mrs. Ernest Nor ris. The afternoon was spent working on doll quilts to be do nated to Children's Memorial hospital. Mrs. Louis Ruhge entertained at supper Saturday evening hon oring her birthday. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. William Luce, Mr: and Mrs. Kenneth Wessel and daughters, Mrs. Paul Linhardt, Mrs. Ann Mirkle, and Mr. Rubge. Elmer Johnson Paul Lin hardt, Lynn Hoback and Ernest Norris left Friday for Minnesota on a fishing trip. Mr. and Mrs. Silas Everett at tended the funeral of Mrs. Adah Newton at Plattsmouth Friday. Mr. and Mrs. John Marquardt have returned from Minnesota, where they spent a week fishing. Mr. and Mrs. James McVey, Sr., Weeping Water, Mr. and Mrs. John Lingle, Jr., spent Tuesday visiting at the John Lin gle, Sr. home. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Meyer, Ralph Meyer, Mrs. Edward Lin hardt visited Mr. and Mrs. George Meyer at the Mayo clinic where George Meyer is a pa tient. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Beccard and children of Lincoln spent several days with Mrs. Henry Mickle where Ralph did some work for Mrs. Mickle. Several from Avoca attended the Gene Autry show at Omaha Friday evening. Members sang "The Yellow Rose of Texas" j and "California Here I Come." Topic for the program was "Presidential Campaigns and Candidates" by Mrs. Charles Marshall. Thursday night guests at cards at the Ernest Emshoff home were from Talmage, Syra cuse, Nebraska City, and Brock. Mr. McDonald has been quite ill and is still confined to his bed. Sayers Family Reunion At Murray Mrs. Neva Read Phone 6021 Correspondent A family reunion was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Har old Sayers last Wednesday eve ning. Those attending were as follows: Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gerdes and family, Paul Hart man of California, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Sayers and family of Lincoln, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Gerdes, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Gerdes and Virgil, all of Ne braska City, Mr. and Mrs. Hav ley Sayers and Mr. and Mrs. Harold . Funeral Of Earl Upton At Union - Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Por ter Lett chapel in Nebraska City for Earl Upton, 72, member of one of the pioneer families of Liberty precinct. Rev. E. S. De Spain of the Union Methodist church had charge of the ser vice. Interment was a.t the Wy-; oming cemetery north of Ne braska City with Carl Cross, Louis Mougy, George Stine, Clar ence Becarrd, Bob Grunwald and John Christensen as pallbearers. Mr. Upton was born on a farm near Union October 30, 1884, son of Mr. and Mrs. . G. S. Upton, pioneer residents of that sec tion of the state. He spent his childhood and youth in Union and vicinity. He has for a long period been suffering from ill ness. Mr. Uuton was married July 13, 1909 at Chicago to Miss Jes sie Haught. Surviving are the wife, two daughters, Mrs. Mary Loder, Muskegon, Mich, and Mrs. Betty Finch, Albuquerque, N. M. and four granddaughters. A son died in 1922 in infancy. During his lifetime Mr. Upton was a member of the Methodist church at Union, THE PLATTSMOUTH, NEBRASKA, SEMI-WEEKLY JOURNAL Thursday, September 27, 1956 " " PAGE FIVE Mrs. Otellia Moore Dies At Lincoln EAGLE (Special) Mrs. Otel lia Moore, 75, of Lincoln and a sister of Edward Gerhard, of Eagle passed away at a Lin coln hospital Wednesday fol lowing a severe heart attack. Mrs. Moore was married at Omaha in May 1916. Her hus band being at that time super intendent of the Omaha city schools. They later moved to California and in 1943 he was accidently killed in an auto accident. He was superintendent of schools at San Francisco at the time of his death. Mrs. Moore moved to Lincoln following the death of heV hus band where she has since re sided. She was known to her relatives and friends as a lovely, cheerful and wonderful person ality. Mr. Gerhard is her only living brother. Other survivors are ten nephews and nieces. Her hus band, one brother, three sisters and her parents preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at Lincoln, Dr.-Frank Court of ficiating, with Evelyn Young as soloist and Mrs. Macy organist. Members of Electa chapter East ern Star attended the services in a body. Pall bearers were nephews -Claud, Harvey and Glendon Ger hard, Orris Lanning, Chester Bornemeier and Glen Bahr. In terment was at Wyuka cemetery at Lincoln. Gfen Thompsen Dies In Mississippi Word has been received - in , Omaha by Mrs. Monte C. Frank, of the death of Glenn T. Thomp son at his home September 9, in Jackson, Miss. He had been ill for several years, suffering from cancer. The deceased was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Thompson, born and reared in Plattsmouth. , Survivors are his wife, Edna; a son, Richard of Santa Monica, California. Funeral services and burial, were in Jackson, Miss. Mrs. Carl Mortensen of Chen ey and Mrs. Robert Mortensen called on Mrs. Turley Wall Wed nesday. Floyd Brakhage of Emerald was a guest sunaay oi Mr. ana Mrs. Brakhage. ' Miss Wylma Fletcher of Bla den, Nebr. is the singer for the Methodist spirtual life services held at the Methodist Church this week. She is staying with Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Landon while here. Mrs. Betty Sacca entered St. Elizabeth hospital Friday afternoon. Several of the Murray young folks took blue, red and purple ribbons at the Ak-Sar-Ben last Tuesday when the livestock was judged. Mr. and Mrs. Perry Nickles was surprised last Sunday eve ning when their Sunday School Class of the Christian Church came in for a house warming. Mr. and Mrs. Nickles have re cently finished their new home and are now enjoying living in it. Lunch was served by those attending. Miss Sharon Gerdes of Cali fornia spent last Tuesday visit ing at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Eastridge. Mrs. Paul.Richter has return ed from Sabetha, Kansas where she spent a few days visiting her brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Mathewson. While she was there they attended the Topeka fair. Mr. and Mrs. Duane Sack are the parents of a fine eight and one-half pound girl. This is the fourth girl for the Sacks. The grandparents are Mr. and Mrs Louis Sack and Mrs. Agnes Mat tason. Robert Curttright Sr. and Rob ert, Jr. are both havng a tussel with the flu. Mrs. Curttright :s caring for Duane Sacks two little girls while their mother is m the hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fitzpat- rick are digging the basement to start a new house. Mr. Gerald McClintock was taken to the hospital one day last week after 'he was thought to have had a light stroke. He is coming along fine now, but has been very sick. Mrs. Adolph Ross underwent gallstone surgery last Wednes day morning at St. Mary's hos pital in Nebraska City. She is getting along as well as can be expected. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lancaster, Dan Hoschar and Dana, Neva Read and Ruthie were Sunday afternoon guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Meyers and Mrs. Dick March in Plattsmouth. Former Residents Visit In City Tuesday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Hilt Martin and Mrs. C. E Martin, mother of Hilt, arrived here on their way to Colorado They were overnight guests here with friends, before going onto Holyoke, Colorado, to visit S. S. Chase, father of Mrs. Martin. The Martins are now residents of Wooster, Ohio, where Mr. Martin is state representative of the Modern Woodmen for Ohio. They state that their son, Don ald, former. Plattsmouth high school grad, is now candidate for district attorney, at Prince ton, Illinois, where the Martin family resided before moving to Ohio. y int.
