September 10, 1956 I Louisville Has 329 In School Now Mrs. Elmore Saltmarsh Tel. 3011 With a grade school enroll ment of 210 and 119 in High School, Louisville school system is in full swing again despite the inconvenience of the burn ed grade building. The kinder garten and third grades are being housed in the Methodist Church basement, where work is now underway on a new exit of the east. Twenty-seven boys rr ported for football practice under di rection of Ernest Lee. On August 30, the Louisville Pep Club held its first meet ing with 53 girls joining this year. Marilyn Koop will be presi dent this year. Vice-president will be Barbara Bourelle; sec retary, Janet Wright, treasurer Patty Gess. Myrna Reichart will be concession chairman and she will have Judy Herbic and Bon nie McGrew as her assistants. On October 5, the Pep Club and L. Clubs are combining in plans for a Homecoming cele bration and game. The club plan a busy year with practice for drills at bas ketball games, a club party, and the gneral promotion of school spirit. This year the four cheer leaders will be Margie and Mary Wiesneth, Elizabeth Bogard, and Pauline Workman. Using as her topic "How Real! is the Kingdom to Us," Mrs. Helen Doerman led the worship service for the WSCS on Thurs day in the Methodist church par lors. Mrs.Amelang gave a re port of the School of Missions that she had attended in Lincoln. A report was given on the well attended chicken supper the so ciety and guild had given. The program on "Four Years of Growing Time" was given by Mrs. Bedella Stander and Mrs. Maud Lesan and Mrs. Bernice Pankonin served refreshments. Miss Jean Wright, student nurse at Immanuel Hospital, and daughter of the P. L. Wrights, had the misfortune of being involved in an accident near Ogalalla on Tuesday in which a Judge's wife, who was an occupant of another car, was fatally injured. Several people from Louisville have been attending the State Fair at Lincoln. Among them were Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Shy rock and sons, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. E. ATTEND INSTALLATION On Sunday afternoon, the Rev. Lyle R. Mueller was installed as pastor of Immanuel Lutheran church. The pastors who assisted in the installation services were Rev. E. Dryer, Rev. B. Ulmer, Rev. R. Berger, Bev. G. Kupke and the Rev. G. Ehlers. Rev. Carl ton Spatzek of Plattsmouth was liturgist and Rev. Herbert Brase of Benson Station, Omaha gave the sermon and Rev. Richard Nagler of Papillion read the rites. More than three hundred and fifty people attended a reception in the church parlors following the services. Rev. Mueller was born at Nor folk and has been serving as a chaplain with the armed ser vices. He and his wife are the parents of a son, Jeffrey and a daughter, Lisa. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Wark of Iowa visited at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Backemeyer a couple of days last week. I Mrs. Grant Peters and Missj Louise Wehrrnan were Lincoln shoppers on last Thursday. Mrs. Herman Kupke, who spent several weeks in the hos pital after a serious operation was able to come home the first of last week. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Peters and Ronnie were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Peters and family of Omaha. On Saturday evening, Septem ber 8th LaVern Klipp, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Klipp will be wed to Miss Lois Rager of Ashland, at the Trinity Luther an Church. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Knosp of California are here visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Wilkens and family. The Boiinemeier hardware store was broken into on Mon day evening and a number of articles taken. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Else man left Monday morning for a trip through the Black Hills and other places of interest. On last Thursday evening Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wendt and Lyle were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Rueter, Dick, and Thad for dinner in the Compass Room at the Lincoln Air Base. C. They left here by auto on August 3rd and first visited their son, Bruce Fleishman and fam ily at Gillette, Wyo. While there they attended the wedding of Dale Fleishman, a grandson. They continued on via Yellow stone National Park to Sandy, Ore., where they visited Verl Fleishman and family. While at Sandy they attended a picnic where there were several for mer Elmwood families. Mrs. Verl Fleishman's sister, Wanda Kuehn and her family also live at Sandy, Ore., having moved there around the first of this year. Their next stop was at Mad ras, Ore., where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Ray Warren, then the two families motored to Olympia, Wash., and crossed the Puget Sound by Ferry into Victoria, B. C.'They returned to Madras, and Mrs. Warren con tinued with the Fleishman's as far as Craig, Colorado, where all visited with Mrs.Ralph Reeve. This was the first reunion of the three sisters,5 Mrs. Charles Fleishman, Mrs. Ray Warren, and Mrs. Ralph Reeve, in ten years. They, also visited with the four daughters of Mrs. Reeve and their families, three of them live near by or in Craig. Mrs. Robert Holder, the former Emily Reeve, and her son, Mark, were visiting Mrs. Reeve, and they enjoyed their visit with her, as her home is in Tenn., and not often seen at home. They continued on to Cheyenne Wyo., where they visited a daughter, and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Taylor, and re turned home from there, com pleting a very pleasant trip as to weather, and with no mis haps. PRE-SCIIOOL PICNIC The Elmwood PTA sponsored the pre-school picnic this year, held on Tuesday evening, Sep tember 4th,, at the Community Building. It wate to have been held in the Elmwood Park as formerly but owing to the cool ness of weather and the threat ening skies it was changed at noon that day. The indoor setting enabled the arrangement of special tables for the school board and the teachers and their families. There were about 175 attended it was reported, and four ser ving lines formed for all to par ticipate in the picnic meal. At the conclusion of the din ner, Ted Hall, president of the PTA introduced the school board Howard Pool, chairman, other members Dwight Clements, Will Hansen, Dr. Glen Knosp and Myrl Miller. The teachers were then intro duced, Clarence Souchek, super intendent, Mrs. Ruth Godbey, principal; Mrs. Eleanor Adee; Mrs. Robert Ebers; Dald Van deford, Coach; and Mrs. Jess Stock constituted the High School staff. The kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Virginia vPeining was not present; others introduced were Mrs. Dorris Parriott, second and third grade teacher; Mrs. Bessie Soucheck, third and fourth; Mrs. Ruth Cline, fifth and sixth, and Mrs. Alta Burd, seventh and eighth grades. As each teacher was intro duced at the Public Address system, Bud Clements inter viewed them, and they also gave their response. This created much merriment. The Fairview 4-H "Old Maid Rythmettes" sang one of the songs they sang at the Share the Fun Con test "Open up Your Heart." which they dedicated to Bud Clements. This welcome to the return ing teachers and to the new teachers was a decided im provement this year, as all were able to see and hear the teach ers. Also had an opportunity to talk to them personally. Many parents and their families as well as other interested citizens were in attendance. The efforts of Sanford Clements as Chair man of the hospitality committee was well rewarded in the en joyment furnished to all,, and the welcime given. STATE FAIR AWARDS Marilyn Mendenhall received a purple ribbon on her Pendel ton plain tailored outfit, modeled in the Style Revue at the Ne braska State Fair, held in Lin coln, September 1st to 7th. She had received a purple ribbon on this outfit at the Cass County Fair, which entitled her to enter the State Fair Revue. Other awards received by members of the Fairview Far merette 4-H Club were as f ol iows:joiene eponn received a purple ribbon on her frozen food meal; blue ribbon on three varities of vegetables and red f THE MASON-DIXON im ribbon on her Pendelton plain tailored outfit exhibited. Donna Miller received a blue ribbon on her sponge cake; Sharon Fredenburg received a blue ribbon on an angel food cake; Marilyn Mendenhall re ceived a blue ribbon on angel food' cake. Mrs. Eldon Mendenhall is the leader of this active 4-H Club. Visitors over Labor Day to Mrs. Mae McBride were her two grandsons, Jimmie and Rog er McBride from Detroit. Roger returned on Labor Day so he might be in time to enter the University, where he won a scholarship in business adminis tration. Jimmie is still in Lin coln where he went for; awhile. Guests of Mr, and Mrs. Eldon Mendenhall and Marilyn over the weekend were Mr. and Mrs Dale Maschmann of Deshler Also dinner guests for Sunday were Mr. and Ms. John Dank- leff; Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Dank leff and son; and Mr. arid Mrs. Robert Dankleff and sons. All enjoyed a visit with the Masch mann s as well as their hosts. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hansen had as Sunday dinner guests, Mr. and Mrs.. Howard Stege and sons, Mrs. Minnie Stege, Miss Beverly Whithen, Hastings. John Creamer of Ogallala drove to Ashland last Saturday to visit his daughter and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Riedsel On Sunday he visited his sis ters Jessie and Maud, and their other brothers, Ralph and Fred, were also there; which made all of the immediate members of the family present. Mrs. John Creamer was unable to come on account of a heart condition, the trip was too tiring for her. Funeral Of R. H. Fitch On Friday Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon, September 7 at the Caldwell Linder chapel for Robert Harvey Fitch, life time resident of Cass County. Mr. Fitch was born at Rock Bluff, March 28, 1881, and pass ed away on September 3rd at an Omaha hospital. A large number of the friends and relatives were in attendance at the service to pay their last respects. Rev. E. S. DeSpain, pastor of the First Methodist Church, conducted the service at the church and cemetery. Mrs. Ed Ernst was the soloist at the church with Mrs. J. How ard Davis as organist. Burial was at the Oak Hill cemetery. Floral bearers were members of the Plattsmouth Navy Moth ers group. Casket bearers were Herbert Campbell, Grover Cundall, Eu gene Fitch, Robert Lewis, Wayne Lewis and Earl Merritt. G o v e r n m ent reports con tinued gains in the economy. McFadden gave a study lesson to members of 'the Holy Trinity Guild when they met Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Ernest Kropp at Nehawrka. He also answered the questions on the question box, which was followed by a dis cussion. Thirteen Hours devotion will be held at the church on Wed nesday, October 24. The annual dinner will be held at the hall at Avoca on Sunday noon, Octob er 14. Mrs. Oscar Zimmerer ap pointed the following chairmen: dining room, Mrs. Zimmerer and Mrs.' Ralph Meyer; kitchen, Mrs. F. O. Sand, Mrs. Emil Lutz, and Mrs. Anthony Wirth. Mrs. Lewis Royal received the premium, Mrs. Mildred Griffen of Syracuse and Mrs. Sarah Kropp were guests. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Royal and son, John Allen, returned Wednesday from a trip to Colo rado. At Byers, Colo., they were guests of Mr. Royal's sister, Mrs. John Beetem and Mr. Beet em and at Littleton, they visited Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Peterson. They also went to Denver. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Schram and family! were guests Wednesday of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Polak of Wahoo. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Royal and John Allen attended bap tismal services Sunday of Mary Catherine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul VanAckern of Una dilla at the Catholic church at Palmyra. Junior Nixon returned home after spending the summer with relatives at Bland, Mo. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Fredrick, Mr. and Mrs. Moyra Jett and Carl Owens of Bland, Mo., returned with him and spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Ray G. -Nixon. A picnic Sunday at the Tucker picnic grounds included Mr. and Mrs. Ray G. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Cisney of Spring field, Ore., were recent guests of the Hansens. Wedding Of Weil-Known Young Couple Mrs. F. O. Sand Tel. 2708 The wedding of Miss Lois Elaine Howsden and David Olive of Weeping Water took place at the Methodist Church at Huntley ; Sunday, August 26, at 3 p. m.! Parents of the couple, are Mr. and Mrs. Roy A. Howsden of Huntley and Mrs. Emily Olive of Weeping ; Water. The bride's dress was a floor length gown of Chantilly lace and nylon tulle over satin with a bouffant skirt made of tiers of tulle. Mrs. Paul Dietz of Alma was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Misses Adella Wilken of Hildreth and Jacqueline Bock of David City. Ben Olive of Weeping Water was best man, ushers were John Woodward, Lincoln and Lloyd and Lee Howsden. The bride is a graduate of Nebraska State Teachers College and is now working on her Master's Degree in education al psychology at the University of Nebraska. The bridegroom is a graduate of the University of Nebraska and Illinois Institute of Tech nology. Mrs. Olive is a general coim- seler at the University of Ne braska, junior division of coun seling service, and Mr. Olive is on the faculty of the college of Engineering. Among the guests were these from Nehawka, Miss Evelyn Wolph, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wolph and Mr. and Mrs. Mar ion Tucker. Mr. and Mrs. Olive will live in Lincoln. The annual Nutzman family reunion was held Sunday, Sep tember 2 at the church at Avoca. A covered dish dinner was held at noon. Mrs. Dena Ruge pre sided at the business meeting:. Mrs. Henry Ross served as sec retary. Mrs. Lydia Vandeberg presided at the organ and Mrs. Emma Nutzman led the group singing. Mrs. Amelia Balfour gave the Memorial. One death occurred the past year, Mrs. Anna Nutzman Folker of Holy oke, Colo. Rev. Aeschbacker of Avoca spoke. There was one 40th wedding anniversary observed the past year. Mr. and Mrs Henry Maseman of Avoca. There were eight births, one wedding. Those pres ent from Bertrand were Mrs. Emma -Roepke, Alf Nutzman, Mr. and Mrs. Omer Nutzman, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Anderson and family, Mrs. Rose Ehlers, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Ehlers, from Wallace, Mrs. Lydia Vande berg; from Republican City, Janis and Dale Asche; Rochelle Meyers from Holdrege. Mr. and Mrs. Kent Balfour and family were supper guests of Mrs. Helen Petersen of Ne braska City Sunday. Beverly and Neil remained overnight and Monday with Mrs. Petersen. Mrs. Lydia Vandeberg cf Wallace, was a houseguest of Mrs. Amelia Balfour and attend ed the Nutzman reunion. Mrs. Vandeberg recently returned from Detroit where she was a guest of her son.
