THE PLATTSMOUTH, NEBRASKA, SEMI-WEEKLY JOURNAL PAGE EIGHT Thursday, August 16, 1956 4 Eagle News: Many Gather At Gerhards On Thursday By Mrs. John Fischer Journal Correspondent EAGLE (Special) On last Thursday evening, an imprornp tu gathering occurred at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Gerhard, when Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mcintosh of Lincoln visited Mrs. Mcintosh's parents. They were accompanied by Miss Marilyn Stoll and fiance, Dick Walentine, Misses Joanne Stoll and Carleen Cox, also of Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schwegman, Edward Gerhard and Mr. and Mrs. K. C. Wenzel. While visiting, Mr. Gerhard's daughter and family of Pal myra, the L. D. McKays, had tripped to Eagle to visit him. They also made the trip to her brother's home. All enjoyed home-made Ice cream and cake during the eve- rung. Co To Madison Mr. and Mrs. John Fischer and Kathy tripped to Madison last Saturday and returned home Sunday evening. They visited their son, O. L. Fischer and family, helped their grandson Timmy Lee, celebrate his bidth day. The maternal grandparents of Osceola were also present. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Weyers have rented the Bertha- Wulf property in the souuth part of town and moved there Wednes day. The Vernon Viox family pur chased the property of Mrs. Briggs and will move this week. The Richard Weyers' have been living in the property and moved this week to other prop erty in Eagle. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Scat tergood tripped to Ruskin Sun day and visited their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Sorensen, Lynn and Linda, near Ruskin. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rausford returned home early Sunday after having enjoyed a ttrip to California for a couple of weeks. They visied relatives at Napa, which included Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ransford, Mrs. William Ransford and daughter, Mabel, Jesse Ransfords, Milton Rans- fords and family. Charles Rans fords, Robert Ransford and Frank Ransford. They also visit ed at Lancaster, with Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Ewing and son. At Oakland, they visited Mr. and Mrs. John Hoad and sons. At Santa Rosa, they visited Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Ransford. They also took a cable car ride, camping out trip to Yosemite Valley and to the red woods. Uncle Dies Mr. and Mrs. Lance elites re ceived word of the death of Mr. elites' uncle, Bert Campbell, 96; at Griswold, Iowa, where he had been convalescing at a nursing home. Burial was at Carson, Iowa. The deceased's sister, "Grandmother" elites, 98, is at the Ebeler Nursing Home in Elmwood, having suffered a broken shoulder a few weeks ago. She hasn't recovered from the injury very satisfactorily. The executive committee of the Women's Society of Christ ian Service met at the church Monday afternoon for an of ficer's training meeting and al so to plan the program for the ensuing year. Miss Betty Jo Frohlich has accepted a position in the Wal ton elementary grades for this fall. She taught at Fremont this past term. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Muen chau were guests at the home of a former classmate and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Palmer at a barbecue at Wahoo Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Norval Utemark and family of West Point called at the Keith Muenchau home Sunday afternoon. Mr. A. J. Nelson accompanied his daughter and family, the Mr. and Mrs. Murl Millers of Elmwood to South Bend Sun day afternoon and enjoyed an outing at the cabins of the Elm wood friends: 1 Mr. and Mrs. Ermond Moore and family of Darlington, Md., and Mrs. E. E. Moore of Weep ing Water, visited at the Ralph Ransford home Monday. Mrs. E. E. Moore will accompany her son and family as far as Rock Island, 111., and visit a daughter and family several days on their return homev The Methodist - Church and Church-School folks are having a family basket dinner and pic nic at Bethany Park at Lincoln, Sunday, August 19 following the morning services at the church. Rev. and Mrs. Donald Christ ensen attended the wedding ceremony of Mrs. Christensen's sister at St. Paul last Sunday afternoon. Both were attendants in the bridal ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Milford E. Axe and daughter Janet and friend, Delores James, of Omaha, spent Sunday at the home of Mrs. Axe's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs.o Edward Porter. Honors Daughter Mrs. Ronald Halvorsen enter tained with a dinner at their home Monday honoring the birthday, of their daughter, Vickie, who is seven. The pat ernal grandparents and four grandsons, sons of Mr. Donald Halvorsen, were guests. Mrs LaVerta Cox of Nebraska City visited a few days last week at the home of her cousin and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Stoll. The guest's daughter, Miss Carleen Cox, visited Misses Joanne and Marilyn Stoll at Lin coln. Mrs. Kate-Penterman of Cor with, Iowa, and Mrs. Lull Kunz of Elmwood visited their broth er, Mr. and Mrs. George Wink ler, a few days last week. -Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wulf visited at the home of their son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Wilt last Saturday and Sunday. Legion Auxiliary Hears Girls' Stater At Regular Meeting By Bertha Caddy Reporter EAGLE American Legion Auxiliary No. 197 met Monday, August 13, at Legion Home. President, Lerma Doeden called the meeting to order and the colors were advanced by Bertha Smith. Chaplain Bertha Caddy read the prayer of thanks for the past year. Nora Ketelhut ac companied on the piano while "America" was sung. Joyce Westfall, girls' stater, gave a report which was very interesting. Lerma Doerden closed the meeting. Elsie Althouse got the door prize. Nora Ketelhut and Belle May served a delicious lunch with Legionaires joining the meeting. The next meeting is Septem ber 3 with Phyllis May and Ida Muenchau as hostesses. Wisconsin Couple Pays Court Fines A Wisconsin husband and wife "team" collaborated recently to gain a six months suspended driver's license and a total of $133 in court fines and costs. They are Mr. and Mrs. Henry A. McGuire who were tentatively residing in Plattsmouth until re cently Mr. McGuire was employ ed in construction work in .Ne hawka. The fines occured when Mr. McGuire apparently intoxicated, was stopped by a state patrol man near Murray. Mrs. Mc Guire refused to leave the car and uttered certain abusive terms directed at the patrol man. They were brought into Cass County Court where Mr. Mc Guire pleaded not guilty to a charge of drunken driving and Mrs. McGuire pleaded not; guil ty to charges of intoxication and resisting and officer. They later changed their pleas to guilty. Other court cases: Stanley D. Brammer of'Foun tain, Colo., speeding, $16 fine, $4 costs. Nonie Lashley of Belle Fourche, S. D., excessive heighth, $10 fine, $4 costs. Clarence E. Nugent of Omaha speeding, $10 fine, $4 costs. Gary A. Jacobson of Omaha, passing on curve, $10 fine, $4 costs. Richard A. Johnson of Lincoln, speeding, $25 fine, $4 costs. Harold L. ' White of Council Bluffs, Iowa, speeding with truck, $15 ine $4 costs. Greenwood Soldier Aids Battalion Win ASCHAFFENBURG, Germany Army Sergeant First Class Vernon L.- Grady, 22, son of Mr. and -Mrs. Lloyd A. Grady, Route 2, "Greenwood, Neb., re cently helped his battalion re ceive the highest artillery test ! score in the 10th Infantry Di vision. Sergeant Grady, who arrived in Germany in July 1955, is sup ply sergeant of Headquarters Battery in the 35th Field Artil lery Battalion. He was a student at Nebraska Wesleyan University before en tering the Army in June 1953.
