GOLD, Mayor ALBERT OLSON, City Clerk Plattsriouth, Nebraska July 9, 1956 The City Council met in regu lar session at 8:10 p.m. with the following present: Mayor Bruce E. Gold, Councilmen L. W. Moore, Ray H. Wiysel, James F. McMillian and Wm. G. High field, and City Clerk, Albert Ol son. Minutes of last meeting read and approved. Permission granted Eugene Snodgrass to cut the curb on 8th Avenue for a driveway to his property. Bids for the purchase of 300 ft. of 2V2" fire hose and 200 ft. I of 12" fire hose referred to the Fire and Water committee for tabulation and report at the next meeting. Delegations representing the Chamber of Commerce, Parent Teachers Association, and oth ers were present and spoke in behalf of a planning commission for a swimming pool and other civic improvements. Motion carried that such commission be appointed. Mayor Gold ap pointed the following; as mem bers of the Commission: James F. McMillian, Wm. G. High- field, Dale Bowman, Mrs. Grant Roberts, Ray H. Wiysel, L. W. Moore, and Ernest W. Schultz. Permission granted the First Baptist Church to install church signs at two designated places. Request of Byron Baker granted to cut the curb on No. 12th Street for a driveway to the property of Marvin Essert. Motion carried to restrict parking of cars to the south side only on Avenue E between 11th and 12th Streets. Motion carried to install a street light on Livingston Road one block south of 6th Avenue. Petitions and agreements ac cepted for application of as phaltic oil on Highland Drive, 3rd Avenue from 12th to 14thi Streets and . 14th Street from 2nd to 3rd Avenue, and Avenue F from 6th Street east Motion carried that City At torney 'prepare an ordinance for vacating Avenue H between 7th and 8th Streets. Motion carried that the May or complete arrangements for a telephone extension to the Sher iff's office from the police; phone and the city share half of the salary for a night operator of such phone. Motion carried that the May or, be authorized to hire an ad ditional police officer. Appoint ment of Lawrence Chappell as such officer approved. T., I. Fricst was elected mem ber of the Library Board for five year term. Reports, of the Police Judge for the weeks ending June 30th and July 7th read and placed on file. Mrs. Ruth Kettelhut will teach school there this com ing term. Afterwards they conducted a vesper service. Besides their leader, Mrs. Swain Nielsen, Rev. T. H. Kampman, Rev. James Snyder and about 25 youths attended. Marilyn Mendenhall ' read the scripture lesson, while Bob Hall led the group in singing. The lesson period was devoted to a talk by Ned Totman,-telling about the truth organization to which he belonged while in Ger many. The group asked questions which he answered according to his experience. Ned returned from Germany about two weeks ago.
