Bobby Loffer, Tye Finney, "Rusty" Schalk and Kurt Schaeffer were winners of the games played and awarded prizes. After the honor ee opened his gifts birthday refreshments were served to those attending. Couple Married At High Noon Sunday On Sunday at high noon, in the presence of a few friends, Mrs. Mary Mae Troop of Platts mouth and George Homer Smith of Omaha were married. Elwin L Coolman, pastor of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, per formed the ceremony. Attending the couple were Mr. and Mrs. Warren Fink. The couple will live in Omaha. Serceant and Mrs. Grover Hardy have returned to their home in Valley View after two months in California where Mr. Hardy attended NCO Academy School. Since arriving home tliey have had a rourd of company. Guests included his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Greybon Hemmingway and son, Gary, of Moses Lake, Wash. Also his par ents, Mr. and Q. B. Skinner of Hays Springs and friend, Mrs. Millie Wilson of Chadron. Departing Friday morning after a visit at the Hardy home were Mr. and Mrs. Fred De neke of Chanute Field, 111. Mr. Hardy is stationed at Of- futt Air Force Base. A Miscellaneous Shower Honors Edith Wetenkamp Miss Edith Wetenkamp was honored at a miscellaneous shower given by the ladies of the Mynard Community recent ly at the Mynard Community Club Hall. Games and program were presented by Mrs. Willis Cole and Mrs. George Jacobs. Janice and Patty McKinney gave a piano duet. Janice McKinney played a piano solo. Sandra and Patty Toman gave several ac cordion duet numbers. Mrs. Myron Wiles arid Mrs. Arthur Wetenkamp had charge of the decorations. Edith was the recipient of many lovely gifts.. Mrs. Reade was in Colorado Springs in June, welcoming a new grandson, Michael Robert Olson, born June 23, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Olson. They have one other child, Deb ra Ann. Mr. Olson joined the family here and Friday the Colorado visitors motored to Burwell to visit his relatives, and attended the Rodeo. They will return to Platts mouth this week to take part in a family reunion. Mr. Olson US Army personnel in the artillery expects an as signment this month that will take him to Germany. Mrs. Olson is the former Carol Ann Reade. The Reckard Family Enjoys a Reunion Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Reckard of Weeping Water have enjoyed another family reunion the last ten days of July. It was the tenth reunion since 1934. Five of the seven sons of the Reckard's were present. Richard and family of Lex ington, Mass., were the first to arrive, A few days later Frank lin and family arrived from Lookout Mountain, Tenn.; Leo nard and family of Pasadena, Calif., were present as well and Howard and wife of Plattsmouth and son, Dale his wife and son of Nehawka. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Reckard their daughter, son-in-law and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Watson of Sedalia, Mo., came later in the week. Paul and wife of Alvarado, Calif., and T-SGT Weaver and family of Kaufbeuren, Germany were not present. The sergeant is with the air force. Other relatives were Mrs. Reckard's sister, Mrs. Nellie Hoss, of Harlan, Iowa, and a nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Ken neth Young and children of Ravenna. Friends of the family called at the Reckard home to chat with the visitors. Plattsmouth Couple Married 41 Years Air. and Mrs. Elbert E. Schwenneker quietly observed j their 41st wedding anniversary at their home, 1216 South Ninth, Wednesday. Their son, Roy De pree.of Fremont called on them. The couple was married in Cairo, 111., in 1915, coming to Plattsmouth in 1916. They have four children. Larsons Crossed Sea On Stockholm In 1955 WEEPING WATER News of the ocean liner collision of 10 days ago had a little added significance to a Weeping Water couple this past week. Mr. and Mrs. Rasmus Larson one year ago went to Denmark for an extended vacation and crossed the Atlantic on the Swedish ship Stockholm which survived the crash. WHEN IT PLATTSMOUTH Mrs. Maggie Mason Passes Yesterday In Weeping Water Mrs. Maggie Mason, 83, died yesterday in Weeping Water following a two week illness. Mrs. Mason was a resident of Plattsmouth since 1908 when she moved from Mynard and was at one time employed at the Ladies Toggery here. . She was born in Rock Bluff in 1873, the daughter of Ben and Elizabeth Marler. She was married to George Mason in 1902 in Plattsmouth. Mr. Mason died in 1908. " Mrs. Mason was a member of the First Methodist Church and of the Royal Neighbors in Plattsmouth. She leaves one son, Earl.C. of Kansas City, Mo., and a grandchild. Funeral services will be held ; tomorrow at 2 p. m. at Cald well, Linder Funeral Home. Rev. Roger Heimer will offici ate. Calling hours will be tonight j from 4 to 6 p. m. and 7 to 9 p. m. at Caldwell-Linder Chapel. Burial will be at Horning Cemetery. Delia N. Hatt Dies in Omaha On Saturday Mrs. Delia Newman Hatt, 70, died Saturday at St. Catherines Hospital in Omaha after an ill ness of one and one-half years. Mrs. Hatt was a resident, of this city since 1905 when she came here from Nehawka. She was born in Otoe County in 1885, the daughter of William and Mary Chapman Newman. In 1906, she was married in Hastings to John V. Hatt who died in 1946. Mrs. Hatt was a member of the First Methodist Church of Plattsmouth. She leaves daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Gauthier of Edmonds, Wash., Mrs. Ruth Ann Daven port of Plattsmouth, and Mrs Mary Jean Fornoff of Weeping Water; sons, John N., of Seattle Wash., and Richard D., also of Seattle; a sister, Mrs. M. A. Andrew of St. Joseph, Mo.; one brother, Claude Newman of Fort Collins j Colo. Also surviving are 16 grand children. - Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. tomorrow at Sal tier Funeral Home. Rev. E. S. DeSpain will officiate. Visiting hours are today from 3 to 5 p. m. and 7 to 9 p. m. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemeterv. Mrs. Elsie Gray of Thed ford. Son Bradley Howard, weighing 7 pounds ,1 ounce, July 29, 1956 in Germany, to Lieutenant and Mrs. Boyd Rouse. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Herman Mei singer of Mynard and Mr. and Mrs. Darcy Rouse of Cozad. Great grandparents include Mrs. Anna Meisinger of Platts mouth; Mr. and Mrs. Roy How ard of Murray; Mr. and Mrs. Snow and Mrs. Rouse of Te kamah. Daughter To Mr. and Mrs. Edward Williams of Topeka, Kans., a baby girl, 7 pounds, 14 ounces, August 5, 1956. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. William Wil liams of Plattsmouth. Daughter To Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ru back, a baby girl, weighing 3 pounds 12 ounces, August 4, 1956 at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Meyer Ruback of Omaha and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Schwartz of Minneapolis, Minn. Great grandparents include Mr. j and Mrs. Sam Baker of Sioux j City, Iowa, and Mrs. Joseph! Lewton In Elmwood ELMWOOD (Special) Funer al services for Ella Blanch Lew ton were conducted at the Clem ents Mortuary Chapel in Elm wood, Monday, July 30, at 11 a. m. The Rev. James Snyder, pastor of the Christian Church, officiated and Mrs. Opal Clem ents sang "Does Jesus Care" and "Faith of Our Father." Ella Blanche Lewton was the daughter of Jesse Morgan Math ews and Louisa Graham-Mathews. She was born August 25, 1868, in Scott County, Iowa, and passed away July 27, 1956 at her home in Lansing, Mich. She was united in marriage to Austin Brooks Lewton on March 2, 1887. To this union was born two sons, Ellis Lewis of Stanton, and Ray Lewton of T.pwtnn of Lansincr. Mir.h with whom Mrs. Lewton made her home. The daughter accompan ied the body to Elmwood and I attended the funeral as did rel- atives from Nebraska and Iowa Chfl Tiro c o momVoY rf tVm rr. gregational Church at Weeping Water, later of Lincoln, and then of Lansing, Mich., where her membership remained until her death. She was an early resident of the Elmwood community, very active in church work, and an organizer of the WCTU. She was the aunt of Mrs. Clarence Schlanker. Her father was a member of the GAR Post and one of the members who helped to build the GAR Hall in Elm wood. He and his wife home steaded in this community, near Elmwood, and both are buried in the Elmwood cemetery. Mrs. Lewton is survived by her three children and two grandsons, Austin Brooks Lew ton of Altus, Okla., and Burke R. Lewton of Colorado Springs. Colo. Mrs. Catherine Penerman of Carwith, Iowa, is visiting rel atives and friends in and near Elmwood this week. Lena and Mary Fischer had Sunday dinner guests, July 29. The guests were Mr. and Mrs. Dick Fischer, and son Lee and daughter Carol of Alvo, their daughter, Mrs. Robert Schier mann and two children of Green wood, and Miss Phyllis Ebeler. Duane Preston left Friday evening, July 27, for summer training at Casper, Wyo., with an air force unit for two weeks. S-Sgt. and Mrs. Joe Collins and family of five children of Shaw Air Base, S. C, spent Thursday, July 26, visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Will Strabel. Mrs. Collins was the former Luru Irons. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Strabel were also visitors as were Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Irons of Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. John Ahrens and family and Mrs. Adeline Rhoden of Weeping Water spent If He Could Talk . . . They also called on Mrs. Grace Plybon and Mrs. Cora Gerbe ling. B, E. Sumner returned to his home Monday, July 30, after undergoing surgery at the Mis souri Pacific Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. He is not expected to return to his duties at the depot for at least three weeks. He is getting along very well. Mrs. Minnie Stege reports she still has a portion of the original cast, placed upon her at the time of her accident. At least two weeks longer remain be fore she may have it removed. She is cheerful about it, although-it is tiring. Mrs. Don Gomzales Is Host To Sister At Surpise Party ELMWOOD (Special)' Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gonzales and family have been visiting her father, Harry Tolhurst, at his home in Raymond. While there, Mrs. Gonzales ar ranged for a surprise birthday party for her sister, Mrs. Harry (Geane) Volpe, which was held at Miller and Paine 's dining room in Lincoln Wednesday. August 1. She had ordered a decorated birthday cake for the occasion, which centered the table. Besides the two sisters, an other sister, Mrs. Jerry (Bobby) Hansen of Lincoln attended, as did Mrs. James Tolhurst of Ray mond, a sister-in-law and Mrs. Jack Hardesty of Lincoln, who is the former Pattie Tolhurst. The honoree's aunt, Mrs. Grace Blessing of .Murdock and Mrs. Cal Stern of Raymond and Mrs. Emily Gonzales of Elm wood were also guests. Afterwards, some of the guests attended a show. Word was received from Washington that Rhoda Earn est is enjoying herself at the home of her niece and nephew, Miss Ethel and William Earn est of Mt. Vernon. She says she is not sorry she made the trip, which was a difficult one for her. The Howard Pool family re turned home Thursday, July 26, after their hospitalization from results of their automobile ac cident near. Wahoo. Howard says all are improving and are glad to be home. Mrs. C. E. Thompson's mother Mrs. Anna Gage, returned to her home in Fairbury last Fri day with her son who came for her. She was visiting at her daughter's home. Lawrence Rogge of Omaha, a cousin of the late Henry Mon ning, visited Mrs. Henry Mon ning, Thursday, August 2. Visit at South Bend Dr. and Mrs D. R. Wolski of Lincoln visited Mr. and Mrs. Harold Strabel at their South Bend cabin- last Sunday. Dr. Wolski is a surgeon at the Veterans Hospital in Lincoln. Two Girls Receive Expense Paid Trip To Milford Camp ELMWOOD (Special) Mary Sue Johnson and Kathy Nielson are attending the Intermediate Unit of the EUB Camp at Mil ford this week. The United Youth Fellowship is paying their expenses. Others will attend camps when they open. George Smith officiated at the services here and Rev. Roger Heimer officiated in Guilford. Mrs. Winters died Tuesday after several month's illness. Music was furnished by Mrs. Lloyd Frady accompanied by Mrs. Carl Duncan. Bearers were friends of the family at Guilford. Garretts Purchase Home on Avenue B Mr. and Mrs. William P. Gar rett have purchased the home at 1221 Avenue B from T-Sgt. and Mrs. Julian R. Acree. This transaction was handled by Miss Loris B. Long, local Real tor. Sergeant and Mrs. Acree and family are living in Japan where he is stationed. Mr. and Mrs. Garrett and family will live in their newly purchased home. Retail Meeting There will be a meeting of the retail division of the Platts mouth Chamber of Commerce tomorrow at 10 a. m. Plans for the merchants "back to school" program will be discussed at this time.
