Wayne Pedersen and Bill Thornton are co-chairmen of the project. All girls of the community ; are eligible to enter the con- A4. I 41 1 X l ' iest u uiey are Deiween me ages of 16 and 21, unmarried and are not previous winners of the contest. Entrants will be judged on poise, beauty, figure and per sonality. The winner will receive a $25 bond and her two attendants will each receive $10 cash. Each entrant will leceive a nosegay and will be guests of the American Legion at the dance which will follow the con test. The young lady winning the title, "Miss Weeping Water," will represent the city in the annual Miss . Cass County con test to be held on Wednesday, August 22, during the annual Cass County Fair. If she wishes and meets all requirementsl she will also be eligible to enter the Miss Ne braska contest next year. The contest and dance will be held Friday, August 17, at the Cass County Agricultural Aud itorium. The Weeping Water Junior Woman's Club will be in charge of the hall decorating. Birthday Mr. and Mrs. Henry Knaup and Roberta had dinner in Lin coln Sunday evening after which they attended a show. The oc casion was to celebrate Mr. Knaup's birthday. On Monday evening Mr.and Mrs. William Knaup of Mur dock, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Root and children, Diane and Stanley of Eagle and Mrs. Aug ust Kleeme of Weeping Water were guests at the Henry Knaup home in honor of his birthday. Ice cream, cake and coffee were served. New Arrivals Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Cherry of El Paso, Tex., announce the birth of their son, David Wayne, born Saturday, July 14. He weighed six pounds, nine ounces on arrival. Paternal grandpar ents are Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Cherry of Weeping Water and maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Art Woehlor of Louis ville. Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Bak er of Weeping Water are the parents of a baby daughter, born Monday, July 23, at St, Marys Hospital in Nebraska City. Kathy Renee weighed eight pounds at birth. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. R. O. Baker of Weeping Water and maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ed McConnaughy of Peru. A baby daughter, Sheri Lynn, six pounds, eight ounces, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Cooper on Tuesday, July 24, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs Louis Sack of Platts mouth and paternal grandpar ents are Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Cooper of Weeping Water. Great grandmothers are Mrs. E. M. Ruby and Mrs. Carla Sack. Mrs. Cooper and Sheri left the hospital Saturday with Mr. and Mrs Roland Cooper of Plattsmouth. They were all sup per guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Cooper that evening and again on Sunday noon. While in the hospital, Mr. and Mrs. Coopers children, Ricky and Debbie stayed with their grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cooper ,and Mr. and Mrs. Sack. Mrs. J. N. Marshall and Bert returned home Monday morning after spending three weeks in California visiting with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Funk. They also visited with her sis ters and families in San Diego and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mc Vay and Randy in Los Angeles. David Olive, son of Mrs. B. A. Olive, who is going to school at the Argonne Laboratories in Chi cago, came home Friday night and stayed until Sunday night with his mother and brother. Other house guests at the Olive home were Mr. and Mrs Roy Howsden and daughter, Lois, cf Huntley. Mr. and Mrs. John Woodward and Emily dropped in on them Sunday to spend the day. They took David into Omaha Sunday evening to catch his train. Here on Vacation Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Bak er of Dayton, O., arrived in Weeping Water Saturday eve ning for about 10 days visit with his mother, Mrs. Vesta Baker, and brother, wife and family, Mr. and Mrs Lewis Baker. On Monday, Mrs. Vesta Baker accompanied Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Furse, H. M. Johnson, Returns Home Clarence Norris is improving satisfactorily following major surgery at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn., on July 12. His son, Jack, remained with him while he was in the hos pital. Mrs. Norris left last Mon day morning for Rochester to stay witth them. They all re turned to their home in Weep ing Water on July 27. Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Mog ensen are the proud parents of baby boy, Stanley Wayne, born Saturday, July 21, at St Marys Hospital in Nebraska City. The maternal . grandparentis Mrs. Chris Zimmerman, Sr., of Plattsmouth and the paternal grandparents are Mr.and Mrs. Otto Mogensen of Weeping Wat er. Thursday Mrs. Ed Van Horn and Johnny and Naomi Com pton went shopping in Lincoln. Before returning home they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Gary Van Horn. Wednesday evening Mrs. Pat Wade was hostess to the mem bers of the Sew'n Sews. Be fore the close of the evening, Mrs; Wade and guests sur prised Mrs. Farley Amick with a birthday cake, and cards. A gift of money was presented to her. After a few social minutes, the cake was served with straw berries and ice cream. Legion Unit Has Election Of Officers WEEPING WATER (Special) The regular monthly meeting of the American Legion Aux iliary, Unit 237, was held in the Legion Hall recently. Thirteen members and one guest were present. Mrs. Sterling Amick, Sr., op ened the meeting with a prayer. The minutes were read and ap proved and the treasurers re port given. Mrs. John Compton was elect ed historian. A committee was appointed to be responsible for a float at the Cass County Fair, with all members helping if possible. Six delegates and alternates wrere chosen to represent the local unit at the Department cf Nebraska convention to be held in Grand Island. The president, Mrs Sterling Amick, Jr., then turned the meeting over to Mrs. L. R. Wise man who installed the following officers for the coming year. Mrs. Don Livingston, presi dent; Mrs. Dick Bickford, vice president; Mrs. William Finley, secretary; Mrs. Verle Johnson, treasurer; Mrs. John Compton, historian; Mrs. Sterling Amick, Jr., chaplain; and Mrs. Arthur I Schmidt, sergeant- at arms. Mrs. Livingston then took over the meeting with a dis cussion concerning membership. The group decided to have the year book committee plan the books to include hostesses for refreshments. Mrs. . Wiseman, Mrs. Amick, Jr., Mrs. Livingston, Mrs. Fin: ley and Mrs. Compton volun teered to help with the com mittee. The next meeting will be held Tuesday, August 14. Mrs. Ver non Duive and Mrs. Schmidt will be hostesses. The meeting closed with the retiring of the colors and the "Red School House March." Ex Prisoner-of-War With Army Friend in Ashland By Mrs. Ivan Armstrong Tel. 1502 SOUTH ASHLAND (Special Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Brown and family of Sacremento, Calif, were Friday overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Asley Boiler and sons. Mr. Brown was Ashley's lieu tenant when . they served dur ing World War 2 ' in the states and in Europe. - Mr. Brown was captured in France and was a prisoner-of-war severals months in 1944. The men had not seen each other since then. The Brown family have been touring Canada' and the east ern states visiting those 'who had been under Mr. Brown's command. They went on to Denver Sat urday, enroute to their 'home. Visit in Eik City Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Odell visited friends in Elk City and Bennington, Tuesday, going to Omaha that evening where they spent the night and Wednesday with their son, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Odell and family. Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Wotipka had house guests Wednesday and Thursday when Mrs. Wotip kas cousins came from Wilson, Kans. Their guests were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stroh and Aaron Stroh. Mrs. Ralph Liles and children accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Ted Moffitt and family of Louisville to the Jack Pierce home in Ash land Saturday evening where a group of relatives gathered there to help Ted Moffitt cele brate his birthday. Others there were Mr. and Mrs. Art Robin son, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Wash burn, Mr. and Mr. Elsworth Moffitt, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Harry and Melvin Larson. Mr. and Mrs. Beryl Keetle and family spent Thursday with Mrs. Keetle 's mother, Mrs. Lena Grage, at Manilla, Iowa. Belle Waterbury, of Manilla came home with the Keetles for a visit. Visit Aunt and Uncle Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Miller and sons of Omaha visited their aunt and uncle, Sarah and John Nichols, Sunday evening. The Miller family has been spending a part of its vacation with Mrs. Miller's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Duerr. Airs. Miller is the former Betty Nichols. Mrs. Fred Raubach and grandson, Billy, of Valentine were guests of Mrs. Raubach's niece, Mrs. Harold Buell, Mr. Buell and Raymond, from Wed nesday until Saturday when the Buells took them to Reynolds to visit other relatives. Mrs. Vernor Bachman spent from Thursday until Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Bach man where she wras convalesc ing from a recent operation at St. Catherines Hospital in Omaha. Mr. and . Mrs. Milton Bachman and Vernor Bachman wrere also Sunday dinner guests at the Bachman home. Mrs. Martin Stenberg, Mrs. Dallas Hunt, Mrs. Otto Olson and Mrs. Henry Klipp wrent to Wann Saturday afternoon where they attended a bridal shower for Miss Lois Rager at the Fellowship Hall. Mrs. Delbert Humston and Mrs. Jerry Sharpnack, Jerry Sharpnack, Mrs. Verne Hutton, Perry Dingman, Mrs. Vera Warga, Mrs. Margaret Dingman and Norman Hoeft. .Present, but not shown, were Don Warga, who was fish ing; P. J. Dingman, who was listening to a baseball game; Don Newburn, Mrs. Janet Ptak, who is hidden by the bough of a tree; Denny Ptak, Bobby Sedlak and Bill Burton, who took the picture, and Mary Ann Dingman, who was swimming. Visits Susie went to Millard Saturday where they attended a shower for Mary Dolan. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wagner had an enjoyable vacation n the Black Hills, Monday, Tues day and Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Moore and sons attended the funeral of Mrs. Herman Roeber, who was Mr. Moores' sister, Tuesday. Mrs. Moore and Miss Ann Lau, who had nursed in the home, spent Tuesday night and Wed nesday at the Roeber home. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Farmer went to Crete Saturday and brought Joyce, Billy and Bobby and Martha Dean Bailey home from the CYF conference. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Rohlff meyer and family and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Whitlatch and family, all of Lincoln, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ashley Boiler and family Sunday. Mr. .and Mrs. Carol Schleu and family and Mrs Jessie Rau and family of Omaha and Mr. and Mrs . Elton Erickson and family were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Maack. Peru Commencement Mr. and Mrs. Ivan E. Arm strong and their grandson, Tom James, Rev. and Mrs. B. F. Parnell and their daughter, Mrs. Howard Stevens and Ruth of Pawnee City went to Peru Wed nesday where they attended commencement exercises at the Peru State Teachers College. Mrs. Willis James, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong, was one of the graduates. The group had a picnic dinner with Mrs. James and family after the com mencement exercises. Tom James remained in Peru after a 10 day stay with his grand parents, x Mrs. Sam Long, Mrs. Clinton Jones and Mrs Dewey Moore attended a copper tooling lesson at the auditorium in Weeping Water Thursday afternoon. Kathleen Wotipka returned home Sunday after spending the past two wTeeks with Mr. and Mrs. Ed Maser in Lincoln. Dickie Wotipka is visiting his cousin, John Roberts, in Lincoln this week. Mr. and Mrs Arley Barger at tended the Wann Ladies Aid picnic at the Memphis Lake Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wells spent Sunday evening at the Borger home. There was no new or old bus iness. The boys held a discus sion on bird food. The girls each made a bulletin board to be used in their homes. Mrs. Stickney served lunch at the close of the meeting, news re porter Marvin Miller said. Several club members from South Ashland attended a Cass County 4-H camp meeting at Camp Harriet Harding near Louisville, which began Tues day and lasted . three days. Those attending were Marjorie, Evelyn and Edgar Jones, Lynn and, Susie Humston, John Roe ber, Kathleen and Carol Stan der, Eugene Backemeyer and John Earl Jones.
